Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Evaluating 159 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers expressed significant disappointment with the subscription service, citing issues with automatic renewals and unexpected charges. The website was frequently criticized for being unreliable, difficult to navigate, and prone to technical problems, leading to wasted time and frustration. Reviewers also reported negative experiences with the payment process, including unrecognized payments and difficulties with logging in. The majority of people found the product, particularly the Advent Calendar, to be of poor quality, uninspired, and lacking new or engaging content compared to previous years. The user experience was often described as frustrating due to slow performance, complex login procedures, and a general decline in the interactive elements that customers had previously enjoyed. However, some customers also mentioned that they found the cards beautiful and appreciated the artistic flair and variety of options available.

Can't understand the bad reviews

I'm writing this to balance all the negative reviews, which don't mirror my experience at all. I've been using this company for years, as I appreciate their lovely tasteful e-cards with pleasant music - and the ones with teddies which never fail to entertain. No bad experiences, no problems renewing. Maybe I've just been lucky, but anyway I am one satisfied customer.

Strong Consumer Warning

Strong Consumer Warning

I purchased and used the Jackie Lawson digital card app for over a year and initially loved it. The cards are beautiful, creative, and charming, and I sent many of them to friends and family.

What I did not realize—until after sending dozens of cards—is that recipients are subjected to aggressive marketing prompts encouraging them to buy the Jackie Lawson app. I was genuinely embarrassed to learn this. People receiving what should have been a simple, thoughtful greeting were instead met with sales pressure that I had no control over.

I searched thoroughly for a way to send a card without the added marketing and found there is no option to do so. This is unacceptable. When I pay for a product, I should not unknowingly be turned into a marketing channel.

Because of this, I will not use the app again. If you are considering this service, be aware that your recipients will be marketed to—and you cannot opt out.

No longer renewing -- abysmal customer support

After several years of enjoying some lovely cards and advent calendars, this year I, like many others (it seems from reviews I've read), will not be renewing my subscription. JL's customer service does indeed suck. I lost 6 months use of a 2 year subscription. When I contacted JL in June about not being able to access the account, they failed to answer. When I contacted them again in early November, they answered, but informed me that I must have input a secondary email (answering to the same email as my account) -- not the case. When I responded again, they just didn't answer -- after all the subscription was near it's end by this point, why bother? At no point did they offer any form of compensation or credit for the lost months. Indeed, at first, they just totally ignored that issue and dealt with my issue as if it were only a "malfunctioning account" issue.

2025 advent calendar problems

On 15 Nov ordered the 2025 advent calendar for 3 friends and 1 for myself. My friends all work perfectly, but on day 4 for me, I was unable to use the calendar. A message on screen stated there was no record of the calendar activated on the email address. I emailed them on 4th Dec with screenshots of the message. Received an automated reply. Received an email on 10 Dec asking for further info, I replied immediately & to date ( 20 Dec ) have received no further communication from them. To say I’m disappointed and angry is an understatement

I have bought the Jacquie Lawson Advent…

I have bought the Jacquie Lawson Advent Calendar for so many years now, but I have been very disappointed with this year's calendar. The cottage is usually filled with fun games; this year, although the decorating abilities were increased, there are nothing but a few puzzles in the cottage. Most of the games seem to have been moved to the daily ornaments, meaning that one has to wait until the day to enjoy them. The Hint function for the daily Find the Elf has been removed again, making it so frustrating that I just gave up messing with that after only a few days. I can't even say the daily videos are of the usual fun and quality. Overall, I am intensely disappointed.

Review--2025 Jacquie Lawson Advent calendar

This is a review of the 2025 Jacquie Lawson Advent calendar. It's the sixth year I have bought it but such a crushing disappointment.
The find-the-elf feature that I have loved is useless this year. The elves are standing there in your face, for the most part. I looked forward to the search so much each morning but not this year. No searching needed.
The Nativity scene in the village is hidden and can barely be seen no matter how much scrolling I do. There is also no Nativity scene in the room, except perhaps in a picture frame that is almost impossible to see.
When you click on the current day, sometimes there is nothing at all to do, no game or activity.
Worse, when you go to the room, as others have said, there is...nothing new. It's the same as the first day except for a building on a shelf. There used to be new and wonderful things every day.
The upholstery choices for the furniture are largely bizarre. Who would ever pick those colors and patterns?
I so looked forward to this Advent calendar but I feel I got a lump of coal instead.

Jacquie Lawson really needs some better…

Jacquie Lawson really needs some better technical support. As you can see by the range of comments, there's no point buying the Advent calendar. There's no guarantee it will work. In fact, i've cut off my recurring subscription to the whole site until I hear and see that they've upgraded their user interface. Too bad, as I like a lot of their cards.

THE ICONIC BLACK D0G IS DEAD

After years not being a member and therefore being unaware of the recent reviews I just tried to join again. Wasted an hour with their now complex digital system. Have now read these reviews and am acting on them, and my irritation about a wasted hour, by immediately unsubscribing etc. Shame, shame. Such a good concept orginally but now ruined by success, complacency and not listening to customers. I remember being attracted by the iconic black labrador. The black dog is now dead.

Don’t waste your money

The 2025 advent calendar is a huge disappointment. There’s nothing clever about it. They’ve gone downhill and I will not be wasting my money on these anymore. Total waste of money.
Bye-bye Jacquie Lawson.

APPALLING SERVICE

This company may produce beautiful ecards, but its email service is absolutely appalling. They simply ignore their loyal customers who ask for assistance, and quite frankly do not deserve to be in business. Their lack of email response is discourteous, unprofessional, and lazy! Sharpen up your act Jacquie Lawson, or see your subscriptions dwindle!!! You're a disgrace to your sector, and are tarnishing the good name your founder created, who, I'm certain, reads all these negative reviews with horror, shame and embarrassment!

Excellent

I have been buying the advent calendar for a few years now and we are enjoying this years as much as previous ones. No issues with downloading and setting up. Its designed to entertain and it does. Everyday someone in the family finds an element to entertain them. Can't fault it.

Update: Jacquie Lawson subscription issues - you pay but no access!

Update: I found my own fix. I think I had some cookies from last year which were overriding everything. I used a different payment methodology this year which was confusing the JL site. Anyhow, that’s my own time I won’t get back fixing it. I see just 2 new Christmas cards this year so a bit disappointing but I’ve sent them. Don’t know yet if recipients are experiencing any issues. I won’t be renewing once this sub expires on 17th Jan.
________________

This morning I paid £5.00 subscription fee for 1 month’s access to Jacquie Lawson. I tried to log on just to send cards but site tells me my subscription ceased 11th January 2025 and I need to renew! I had a subscription for 1 month last Christmas and was very happy with that. Luckily when I renewed this morning I went straight to the ‘switch off monthly auto renew’ option, clicked on it and it told me that my new subscription will stop on 17th January. All good I thought although sadly I didn’t take a screenshot of this notification. Now I don’t seem to have any subscription at all although I do have a receipt of payment which I have sent to the help email at JL. I also tried the live chat but was told that’s working to US eastern time. Let’s see what response I get. Not holding out much hope reading the other comments here… I also see others have experienced similar issues.

Same old

I was gifted the 2025 Jacquie Lawson calendar, having vowed previously never to buy from the company after so many disappointments. It worked for three days then wouldn’t let me access further days. Many Emails from myself and the gifter either went unanswered or gave such nonsense replies they didn’t help at all. Complete waste of money and an uncaring company. I’ve now blocked them

Complete disappointment

I have been giving these calendars to friends and family since the first year it was available. This is the absolute worst ever. It’s such a complete bore that calling it derivative would be unearned flattery.
In the early years, everywhere you clicked there was something new; going to your home was magical with new games and puzzles almost every day. I am positively mortified that I sent these out as gifts. Needless to say, I will not purchase these calendars in the future. What a disappointment. Frankly, I feel I’ve been had.

ARTISTIC BRILLIANCE

Having just read several of the negative reviews about this business I feel that I must take a more balanced view and express my thanks and appreciation to the JL team for the high level of artistic creativity on display.

I have been able to send out 41 cards so far this year and I have a few more to go yet. What a good saving in UK postage of around £120.

Most of the cards have now been viewed and many old friends have sent back their appreciations and have enjoyed doing the jigsaw.

I am enjoying the ADVENT CALENDAR myself at the moment and I am working through my main list to find those who will have time to fully enjoy it as there is so much to do and have fun with. Spectacularly good say I.

This REVIEW is automatically sent to the business and they can comment here.

Thank you for reading this and my thanks to Trust Pilot for this useful platform. If you could spare a quick 'like' I would be grateful.

Terrible customer service

Recently I went to send some Hanukkah cards from this site and they were not available. After searching high and low I found four cards hidden underneath the Christmas cards. When I chatted with them they sent me to Just Answer which I had to pay for. The technician told me that they spoke with a representative at Jaquie Lawson and apparently the cards are out of stock this is complete bull.
I will no longer be spending any more money on this
terrible site.

Very disappointed with this year's Advert calendar.
Having received and sent over the years. Have used Jacquie Lawson card subscription for many years. seems that very little original content this year just re-inventing the wheel, so sorry, but when my subscription runs out next October not sure i will subscribe again if this year's calendar is any hing to go by. Really not worth the money this time round. Sorry negative, you ask for feedback. Will not renew, if a purchase from a local shop would be back asking for a refund
