Absolutely Worthless Lacie 2big Raid Drive
I would strongly advise you not to purchase a Lacie drive. I invested $1,400 on a LaCie 2big Dock Professional Dual-Disk Raid 40T drive in June 2024. I was looking for a dependable drive to backup my large number of photos and videos. In less than one year, the whole drive crashed. It was still within the warranty period, so Lacie replaced the drive and also recovered my data. I did have to pay to send the drive back to them. At that point, I was concerned whether I could trust this drive to backup my media collection. When I received my replacement drive, LaCie sent me a refurbished drive - not a new one. I didn't realize that, until this "new" refurbished drive also crashed within months of use. This time, LaCie was not willing to retrieve my data, saying I already had use my one-time retrieval. So, I spent countless hours dealing with their customer support team, after spending weeks if not months putting my files on this worthless drive, only to find out they would replace my drive again, if I paid even more money to ship it back to them. So, now I have invested $1,500 for a drive that it absolutely worthless. Why would I ever trust this drive after two separate units have crashed in less than a year of use? Seagate should be ashamed of their terrible customer service and even worse, their worthless hard drives. Buy elsewhere!
LaCie: read the fine print
I bought a Lacie 2TB external hard drive and it had lots of problems. Finally Lacie took it back BUT I had to pay $25+ postage AND the replacement was a repaired drive, The 'new' drive is fine but read the fine print before you experience the shoddy service I received.
LaCie 2big Dock Failed Twice — Worst Storage Experience I’ve Had
I purchased a LaCie 2big Dock 20TB drive from Scorptec in Clayton to handle large volumes of data for my creative agency. I made my purchase on the 09/08/25. After backing up roughly 8TB of data including important documents and client work, on the 15/08/25 (a week of owning) the unit failed and I was unable to access my data and files on the brand new drive. After going through their support process, which involved hours of troubleshooting and eventually having to send the unit to one of their recovery labs in USA to get my data recovered, I was then issued a replacement unit. This alone was such a terrible experience to go through and although their customer service was somewhat helpful in this process, it still never took away from the horrendous experience of their product failing and almost losing 8TB of important data.
I eventually was sent back my recovered data on different drive (which was already beyond an inconvenience as not having access to the data on that drive meant delaying client work and pushing projects out). They then also sent me a brand new replacement 2big 20TB drive on the 16/09/25 (a whole month of waiting for a replacement and for my data to be recovered from the faulty unit) , which I didn't open and use immediately as I didn't need that storage right away and frankly was a little nervous to even use due to the experience I had just had with the original.
At this point I was just happy all my data was recovered and that I was sent a replacement which I would eventually use again when I really needed to and didn't think much of it after that.
Then came last week 12/03/26, when I finally needed to open my replace 2Big doc and use it as I had exhausted storage on my smaller external drives. Enough time had passed from my previous experience that I was excited to finally get to use the product I had originally bought for this very reason. I unboxed it, read the installation manual to ensure I did everything correctly and then plugged it into my laptop...then nothing. It wasnt mounting or showing up. I unplugged it and looked up all the troubleshooting methods for getting it going, but the same thing happened. The light on the front of the drive which should normally be blue when its in and working was staying red and the drive was not showing up on my laptop anywhere. I then tried every other port on my laptop, different usbc-usbc cables I had and still the same result... I then tried to plug it into my partners laptop and proceed with the same troubleshooting methods to no avail.. I was beyond angry and frustrated that this was happening again, just thankfully with nothing important backed up onto the drive.
At this point, I went onto their support chat and proceed to endure the same process as the first time which was again frustrating. Eventually I requested a refund, as I had completely lost confidence in the product’s reliability and was not willing to go through the process and cost and time of sending another faulty drive off and waiting for a replacement with no real guarentee the replacement would work, even with their support saying they will ensure it works etc, the same thing they told me last time. So despite experiencing multiple failures, Seagate declined to offer a refund and instead insisted on continuing with their replacement-only policy.
And what makes the situation worse was the process required returning the faulty unit before receiving a replacement, handling packaging, logistics, and time costs myself, and the potential cost of customs duties and delays.
So regardless of trying everything in my power to get some kind of justice for this terrible product and customer experience they just keep coming back with the same story and leaving me to bare the consequences of their unreliable products and them taking very little accountability in this matter. So now I will need to go through their replacement process once again, and honestly will likely just try to sell the drive to recoup some of the cost. But the time costs and energy spent on this far outweighs the cost of the drive itself (AUD$1699 at time of purchase).
For a product and company positioned as a "professional-grade" storage solution, both the reliability and customer support fell well below expectations and are just unacceptable.
It is quite disheartening to think that despite all of that, all I can really do now is spend my time writing this review of my experience only in the hopes that it helps someone else from going through the same experience.
Based on this experience, I would no recommend buying products from Seagate or LaCie.

You don´t see anything crazy here? Really?
weak!
When I first heard about Lacie's back up drive...i do not remember having too many options in the market...they presented the product with this orange rubber, apparently to protect the product. So I bought 4 drives, then a few months later, 3 more...and started storing my data. Music(wave files), videos, etc. Today i have 7Lacie HD and none of them works.

I´ve owned probably 5 Lacie hardrive over the last 15 years. They all were absolutely shit. Even the recent SSD rugged ones. Every hard drive that I touched from this brand was awful. And I am a pro photographer.
They look good, function only a couple of times. Then they give up. Or corrupt all your files.
Hard drives aren´t suppose to fail, espcially when advertised as rugged. I lost to much data because of that awful company.

I bought an expensive 2Big RAID Dock in 2023. It failed after a short while so I returned it via the correct LaCie channels and a replacement was sent to me. I registered the first unit.
Today this replacement also failed but LaCie (Seagate) are now saying that the part and model numbers of the replacement unit are not for the Australian market (even though it was what they sent me as a replacement) and will not honour warranty (even though the unit is shown as being covered until 2028). Pretty dodgy really.
I think users would be better off getting a good quality enclosure and drives and build their own unit. Very disappointing.
Seagate will loose your landscape. Stay away!!
I have owned the rugged drives since they started making them. After the Seagate buyout they pretty much became junk. I bought a rugged Boss with SD card reader and 4 TB which wasn’t a cheap purchase. I planned to used it exclusively with my new Leica M 10. After the warranty expired and I mean literally to the day it simply died. Started clicking beeping and light flashing with no recognition by any computer. Luckily I back up my drives when I return from the field. So I didn’t loose any data. I was out around 400,00 for a barely used RUGGED drive. I didn’t even have to drive s truck over it to kill it. Meanwhile my original Lacie still works fine after 10 years never a problem. I seriously recommend any cheap drive. Seagate has cheapened a great product and sold it on the merits of the original. Don’t waste your time asking for any compensation or a new drive. They don’t care about their customers. There are many better products to choose from. Daniel F Steinhauer
Lacie: poor quality, worse service
This is my third Lacie drive and it died after two months. The other two died also. Customer service is atrocious. Tech support is not qualified, and apparently understaffed. My fault for buying these drives after a bad experience. Stay away!

I've got 3-4 drives and they seem to work fine for a year or two, then the port gets wobbly and they're not as reliable. Never lost any data though, worst case I've had to use a dock because the port wasn't working.

Lacie harddrive sucks
Lacie harddrive sucks
I have had 3 Lacie harddrives now and a lot of failures on them; suddenly not working, not connecting to my laptop or other times extremely slow. Never buying a Lacie again
Bought the Lacie 2 TB mobile drive…
Bought the Lacie 2 TB mobile drive about 13 months ago. To back up photos and videos. Completely stopped working after 2 uses. Lacie must have been bought out by by Seagate. Spoke to tech support... utter rubbish. But they can point you to a company that if you pay them can retrieve what is on the broken drive and sell you another one. Absolute SCAMMERs.
The product does the exact opposite of what they say it will do. It does not protect your data.
DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE buy…
DO NOT UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE buy anything from Lacie/Seagate. SAVE YOURSELF the time and money and buy another brand.
I bought this piece of junk, the Rugged Lacie 5TB brand new. I backed up my data onto this hard drive, plugged it in a month later and it won't start. It just wouldn't turn on. I only used it ONCE. Now here's the "SUPPORT" - Seagate will make YOU pay for your own return even though the product is supposed to be under "warranty" and even though this junk stopped working in less than a month. After I shipped it and paid out of my own pocket to send it to their warehouse in Mississauga, I've been waiting 3 weeks for a response from them but they tell me they still haven't seen my shipment. I provided them with a tracking number which shows it has been delivered by Canada Post but they still tell me they cannot find it. Every time I chat with their support reps, they just tell me they are escalating the situation but the next person 48 hours later says the same thing, while no body from their team is actually doing anything at all. PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM THIS JUNK and buy another product instead or you will risk your time, money and data depending on it.
I have 8 events coming up and if I lose my data on my laptop, I will lose tons of money as I'll have to turn down these events. All thanks to Lacie and their nightmare of a product. At the least, they should be sending me a replacement but NO, they just have low paying reps at their chat team that don't give a damn and will say anything to get you off the chat. WORST WORST WORST product in the market and I am really shocked that in 2024 with all the tech around us, we are seeing companies like this that operate like their in 1990.
The LaCie d2 pro goes into sleep every…
The LaCie d2 pro goes into sleep every minute and then takes 20 sec to start again. LaCie has been bought by Seagate and the only support is only via chat to Seagate where you have to wait long time for answers which are always unqualified. The hardware is often good but it is totally impossible to get qualified technical support. LaCie should start their own support again! Buy another brand than LaCie and Seagate where you can get support!
Extremely disappointing
I recently purchased the LaCie Mobile Drive. My experience with the LaCie Mobile Drive has been extremely disappointing. It has not only failed to deliver on its promises of reliable data storage and fast performance but has also caused significant data loss and stress. I would strongly advise potential buyers to consider alternative options from more reputable manufacturers. LaCie needs to address these fundamental flaws.
Bought a LaCie Mobile Drive SSD
Bought a LaCie Mobile Drive SSD. Didn't work at supposed speed. Contacted customer service. Outsourced to India. One question, unanswered. 30 min waste of time (mostly asking my info). Case number created, never heard from them again. Incompetent customer service. LaCie (seagate) lost a customer.
Do not buy any Lacie Big tower raid systems
I strongly advice !!! Do not buy any Lacie Big tower raid systems...i had two of them on the past. The first one failed after 2 years and i had long discussions with LACIE about the guarantee the second one is exactly the one as described in the video and it failed adter 5 Years and 7 Months and was not covered by the 5 years guarantee. We had troubles nearly with the beginning and latest MAC OS does not support these towers properly...what a waste of money !
One of the worse if not THE worse…
One of the worse if not THE worse hardware company out there, bought a Big 5 drive that constantly sounded a high-pitch alarm every second when something was wrong despite being able to use the device and there was no way of turning it off; typical non-joined-up-thinking I come to expect from French companies! This was sold as a device to use in a studio environment but it drove everyone in the office mad until such time the data could be rescued from it and moved to a more reliable unit. Avoid LaCie like the plague!
