Just back from a lovely week at cottage …

Just back from a lovely week at cottage at Hill Top at Ealinghearth.
Booking with Lakelovers was trouble free form start to finish.
The cottage was superb , spotless and very well thought out. The owners were friendly and very considerate. There was tea, coffee, milk and fresh fruit in the cottage on arrival. The setting is wonderful with panoramic views from the front of the property. There is a lovely well tended garden, a sun terrace and pavillion which is set up as a games room and is well stocked with books and dvd's for wet days. Although near to lots of attractions we were content to relax and enjoy the surroundings and facilities.
We hope to return in not too distant future and will be recommending Hill Top to our friends and family.

Do not book with Lakelovers ( also known as "Customer haters")

I am incredibly upset by the way Lakelovers has treated my family, especially as I was LIED to (by being given two alternative stories by Lakelovers who cancelled my holiday). I booked a lovely property and received confirmation of my booking and payment via email .I also received a phone call asking me how I would like the bed to be set up. I was later told via a voice mail message to say that the booking had been cancelled due to the owner requesting that the week I had booked was to be kept free and a "newbee" had not updated the records. When I phoned in a distressed state I spoke to two people before being passed onto the assistant manager. She told me that as I had booked the property on a Sunday the webpage had not been updated and someone else had "got in before me" (conflicting story!). I found her to be less than sympathetic, her manner being cold and terse. Two alternative properties were suggested but they were not suitable.I spent a fortune in phone calls and a ridiculous amount of time dealing with the situation. I am still extremely distressed and my children are upset at the prospect of not having a holiday. I am appalled at the underhand "reasons" I was been given for this situation happening. Do NOT book with Lakelovers, customer service is rubbish, they are uncaring and in-compassionate.
POSTSCRIPT: 7 hours later I am still waiting for a refund !!!!!!!!TAKE NOTE, if you still book with this shoddy company they will charge you a massive credit card charge (added £46 to my bill for paying by credit card). 24 HOURS LATER - STILL NO REFUND. Now contacting a solicitor. Cottage cancelled 51 hours ago - STILL NO REFUND.

Lakelovers - Wheatlands Cottage, Windermere

We are just back from a fantastic weeks stay in Wheatlands Cottage, 1st stay there but certainly won't be the last!! The 1 bedroomed cottage is beautiful, spotless & very well equipped, very homely & comfortable. There were lots of extras, cling film, foil, kitchen roll, toilet rolls etc. that we didn't expect. Also, a delicious homemade lemon cake was left as a welcome gift. Many thanks to David & Anne. It's perfectly situated just a few minutes stroll to Windermere Centre, shops restaurants etc. & a few minutes further to the bus & railway station. We parked the car on Friday & left it unused until we travelled home today. We bought a weekly bus pass & used it everyday to visit different places within the Lake District (except the day we went on a Mountain Goat 10 Lakes Spectacular Tour). This is the second year we have booked through Lakelovers & everything ran like clockwork again. Many thanks all & looking forward to booking with yourselves again soon.

Do not book through Lakelovers

Booked and paid in full for a weeks holiday. Unfortunately needed to ask to transfer to a vacant week at the same property due to critical family illness. Lakelovers say it is not their policy to enable transfers, even with a fee paid. However there is nothing in their terms and conditions that say transfers are not allowed.
Lakelovers are totally heartless, non customer focused and make their terms and conditions fit their needs only.
I am not aware that they even asked the property owner, who may have had more heart.
I see from other reviews of Lakelovers that they appear to get good reviews if everything is fine, but when something goes wrong, they are rubbish and uncaring.
DO NOT BOOK THROUGH LAKELOVERS.

Greengable, Ambleside

This is the second time we have used Lakelovers and the properties are as described online. The best way to judge a company is when things go wrong. After torrential rain, the fan in the bathroom stopped working. We reported it to them mid-morning and it was fixed whilst we were out with no fuss. The apartment was clean and tidy. All communications from Lakelovers was professional and timely. We will certainly use them again

Spot on!

First time in the lakes so didn't know what to expect from the area or Lakelovers. Not disappointed on either count. We stayed in Abbotsgarth in Bowness. A lovely house with everything you need to hand. It's in a quiet cul-de-sac with two other properties. One of the property owners is there regularly and he is very friendly. The house is a short walk from Bowness and Windermere itself, which makes it an ideal spot. Would definitely go back

Bad customer service and cleanliness

Customer service and cleanliness were terrible. Upon arriving we discovered old tissues down the side of a bed, a half eaten toy under a sofa and other signs of lack of cleaning but decided to look over it until one morning we had no water in the taps and the 'emergency/out of office' contact number was turned off and failed to return our message. We also emailed and when I got a reply it was address to someone with a different name and title ( this occurred on two occasions ) with poorly written replies. My partner and I had to leave early and on checking the room for our beongings discovered an article of clothing and really thick dust down the back of bed . ...when I sent the next complaint they took an entire week to email back that they were sorry and would tell house keeping.
In addition we stayed in Boxwood Cottage and the garden is not attached to the property or insight from any of the property windows, despite no mention of this in the description.
It is a shame but I would not recommend Lake Lovers to anyone.

Pollys Cottage. Elterwater

We have spent half-term week here in Elterwater, an excellent location, ideally situated near numerous fell walks, especially good for young children and dogs. The local people were very friendly. Overall, I would say that this experience has excelled our expectations. Will definitely come back here again.

Copt Howe, Ambleside

Just returned from our Christmas break in the Lake District at Copt Howe.
1st time we have been away at Christmas. Wasn't disappointed (well who would be if you were staying in the Lake District?), lovely cottage. Home from home, cosy and clean. Ideal location for walking, pubs and shops. No need to use the car all week.

Foxdene Cottage, Near Brigsteer and Underbarrow

Foxdene Cottage, Near Brigsteer.

This is a very nice cottage once found. ( lake lovers please readdress your directions once on Garth Row lane ) Well equipped and of high quality. The exception being the Lounge seating furniture but I quite liked the old rugged look and feel ! The website photos need updating as changes have been made to these. Also the wide angle lens shots can be a little deceiving especially of the porch area and staircase through to the kitchen. As a four star cottage we expected some ' niceties' to be available such as soap, wash tablets for the dishwasher and cleaning materials for toilet etc.. The owners live in the attached cottage and were helpful on our arrival in providing a hose to attach to an outside tap. This was so we could wash the dogs down after a walk. There are two outbuildings also close by one of which was being rented out as Studio accommodation and another being converted for the same use.

Access to the cottage is via single track lanes. I suspect in the winter when snow is around this would easily become a problem. The pub that is within walking distance is the Wheatsheaf at Brigsteer. We had a nice walk through the nearby woods with the dogs and walked back via the road. Probably a couple of mile round trip. Nice pub and is the sister pub of the Masons Arms that is featured in the cottage description and images. The Masons Arms is around 7 -8 miles away. The other nearby pub is the Punch Bowl at Underbarrow also about a mile or more away. Scout Scar overlooks the area and can be accessed either directly from the cottage using public footpaths or drive up to a carpark and have a short stroll onto the top.

A few minor issues stops me awarding 5 stars

Lake lovers holidays provide an excellent service

I booked a weeks holiday in a cottage in Ambleside with Lake lovers on the internet. The whole experience was first rate. The website was easy to navigate and informative. The property information was accurate and everything turned out as described. I would certainly use this company again.

Birkwray Barn - excellent

Have been using Lakelovers for 20 years now and always had a good experience. Our 4th stay at Birkwray Barn now and intend to go back. A very well designed and well equipped barn conversion in a beautiful location with excellent views from the first floor living room and master bedroom. Perfect for walkers, in that 8 adults can easily get out of boots and waterproofs in one of 2 boot rooms before using the 4 bathrooms which include 6 toilets. Lakelovers good support was evidenced by the speed with which they let us back in , after we had stupidly locked ourself out, on a Saturday evening: 30 minutes. Pretty good we thought!

Dirty Property with Dog Hairs in the Bed - Lakelovers response was book somewhere that doesn't accept dogs next time

Stayed at Lakeside View, found property dirty on arrival but as Lakelovers office was closed we couldn't report it, on going to bed when pulling back the covers we found the bed covered in dog hairs. Reported it to Lakelovers next morning and promised to change bedding and carry out a deep clean and to ring later to check everything OK. Bedding was changed but standard of cleaning was still poor, phone call never received. Complained to Lakelovers, response was 'we do have a range of properties that do not accept dogs', very helpful!

The Grange Lodge

The Grange Lodge is a FAB house, it has everything you need. there are walks from the door so no need to drive if you don't want to. You are close enough to walk to shops and bars but not to close to be bothered by them.
The owner phoned on the first day to say that there was going to be work men at the house next door for the rest of the week. The guys working on the house were very friendly and polite always got a good morning from them. Would love to stay here again.

Simply awful

The worst customer services ever! We received a telephone call ar 5pm on the eve of our stay informing us of scaffolding to be et cited, and building work carried out, during our stay! We protested, but received no support. During the stay the building work was noisy, the scaffolding unsightly, our privacy was invaded and the builders used foul language (children with us!) during their work! Sent photographic and video evidence to Lakelovers, requesting some form of compensation. Waited three weeks to be informed there was nothing they could do, but they had ' tried their best'. Will never use this awful company again.
