Accidents waiting for a place to happen...

I'm a kiwi GEM VISA customer...
Latitude Financial/GEM VISA are easily the worst financial company I have dealt with. I deal with 7 others.
It starts with the multiple different websites (making huge potential risk running into scammers), and most recently not being able to log-in to my account.
Their customer service is slow to respond, an issue response to arrive within a week is now 2 1/2 weeks (& counting), and they insist I install Google Chrome to resolve. I told them it would not happen but it just went in circles.
A quick search (even googles own search) will show the security risks with Chrome & why I refuse to use it.
Recently, not being able to access my account/statement had resulted in a penalty as I was unaware of their won charges being added & so underpaid.
Their 2023 cyber attack (with millions of customers details stolen) was no surprise, and a AFAC report, in Aug 2025, shows some 180 customers still have complaints to be resolved.
NOT TO BE TRUSTED!!!

Stay Away from this company

The most un ethical useless customer service team and company I’ve ever dealt with. This company makes it difficult to pay your bill on time and then when you try arrange with their team to have it paid on time they don’t do their job properly. Stay away from these weasels for your own safety. They also now charge account fees even when there is no outstanding balance there is literally no upside to this company and service any longer. Reporting them to AFCA

Woeful handling of a recently deceased…

Woeful handling of a recently deceased customer – So my mother passes away a couple months ago. I use their online form to notify them of this. They respond by asking for her details, and evidence of her passing. I send these documents to them, no problem. They then request a copy of her death certificate. Due to her passing just before Christmas/New Year, we can’t conduct her funeral until the first week of January. I receive the death certificate three weeks after her funeral, scan it, and email it to them. I receive a reply from a “Vipin”, greeting me with “Hi *Mum’s name*”! The email then apologises for her passing and other text that is impossible to read due to very poor English. This is extremely unprofessional, offensive and completely insensitive. Formal complaint now with them, don’t hold much hope of any outcome. [“Without Prejudice”] I should just tell them to sod off and pay them nothing from the estate. I also discovered they engaged the services of an UNLICENCED debt collector, sending letters repeatedly to her former address, despite being provided with a PO Box address to use. Hopeless, as if customer service isn’t a priority. This is what happens when you send your entire customer-facing staff and complaint handling overseas. Zero commitment to the customer, more just trying to save a buck by not employing Aussies.

Read this before even installing their app

I've never left a review before in my life. They are a scam company, so don't fall for it.

When a payment is due, they will disable your access to make the payment and then charge fees. This happened to me three times, and each time they just said sorry. Just imagine they deliberately disable accounts for many others so you can't pay, just to profit from late fees.

Latitude has been the most…

Latitude has been the most untrustworthy finance company I’ve ever dealt with.
The credit card interest rate is nothing short of usury, 27.99% pa and unfortunately in Australia these rates are not properly regulated. On top of that, paying the card via BPAY incurs a $1.95 AUD fee per payment, plus a monthly fee of $10.95 AUD.

The credit card agreement feels like a trap. Please do yourself a favor and avoid doing business with this company or applying for any of its financial products. I have reported them to AFCA and will update on the outcome. So far, they have refused to reduce the credit card rate.

Lattitude exploits customer errors to profit off of them

The only way to make payments on your CC with Latitude, is to setup a direct debit permission system. This system would often take well over 24 hours during business days to complete, which has its pros and cons, but it also used to have a cancellation system if you entered an amount you changed your mind over. They deliberately removed this.

I was tired, on a short break at work, and decided to allocate a % of my pay to pay off part of my CC debt, i wasnt paying attention, and fat-fingered the wrong amount, i paid off the entire CC instead. I realised instantly that i had done this, but there is no physical way to cancel these payments now without sitting on hold for X amount of time to maybe speak to a human. I did everything i could, including removing my direct debit permission system and the card attached to it from my account, immediately. Their online chat support is 100% F-tier AI, no humans involved. The AI told me to fill out a direct debit request form, i did, on the spot, thinking maybe that should do it. I did all this at 2pm on a Thursday.

I then received an email the following day, saying they'd get back to me within 2 business days. The payment went through, alongside my mortgage payment and now im hundreds of dollars in the red on my main transaction acc. I then, after many days, received an email from support, saying essentially "you don't have a direct debit account connected to this account, so we're just gonna close this ticket, thanks!". Useless, worthless support.

This was all setup intentionally, to take advantage of anyone who makes a mistake with their CC payments, to force them into making cash-advance withdrawals and double dip on their exploitation. This should be illegal.

Beware of Gem Visa (Latitude Gem Visa)…

Beware of Gem Visa (Latitude Gem Visa) — My Honest Experience

I want to share my experience with Gem Visa (Latitude Gem Visa) to help others make an informed decision before using their finance services.

When you take finance from them, they don’t clearly tell you that everything must be paid back within six months. They make the process confusing on purpose, so you don’t fully understand the repayment terms.

Their interest rates are extremely high. You might think you’re getting a good deal, but in reality, you can end up paying almost three times the amount you borrowed.

For example: If you borrow $2,000, you might end up paying back around $6,000 if you don’t pay the full amount within the six-month period.

After that period, you must pay off everything in full and close your account. Otherwise, they keep adding extra fees and charges that pile up quickly — costs you would never imagine.

They won’t explain this clearly when you first buy something. They make it sound easy and attractive, but it’s a trap.

My advice: Avoid borrowing from this company at all costs. They operate in a way that feels like a scam.

Please think twice and read all the fine print carefully. Don’t get caught like I did.

Latitude 'updated' and started charging…

Latitude 'updated' and started charging fees on dormant accounts to GEM VISA.

I only found out I was in default for less than $50 when applying for another loan. Discovered an old dormant account. They updated it to GEM VISA then started charging fees. It was this fee that I had defaulted on - The old account had an old address so didn't even know I had a problem. Immediately fixed, but damage to my credit rating is done.

I question the ethics of 'upgrading' accounts like this after not being used in years.

Serious warning: A Bad Credit Rating can ruin things. Don't let some small $50 debt ruin your long term finances.

I have since found out others have had the same problem. I really question the ethics of a company applying malicious fees.

The fees are already outrages then after being in front of payments, making a payment on the 1st of July by the 28th July I have a late fee payment of $45. It is too hard to deal with their support so I will pay this thing off and cut the card up into a thousand pieces.

AFCA Found Latitude Breached Legal Obligations

Latitude emailed me multiple times confirming my credit account was closed. I trusted them. But the account stayed open. Charges resumed. And a transaction I couldn’t even see kept it alive — meaning I had no chance to dispute it.

I escalated to AFCA (Australia’s independent financial complaints authority), which found in my favour.

Here’s what they found:

– Latitude’s closure emails were materially false — not poor wording, but factually wrong in a way that cost me money
– According to AFCA, Latitude failed to meet obligations under the Corporations Act — not just a policy failure, a breach of legal standards
– They also breached Mastercard scheme rules, which exist to protect cardholders from hidden transactions and unfair charges
– The issue came from Latitude’s own systems, not user error — and yet they let the charges through

This wasn’t a glitch. It was a failure of transparency, accountability, and compliance.

AFCA awarded compensation — but only because I had the time and energy to fight.

If Latitude ever told you your account was closed, don’t assume they were right.
Check your records. You might already be owed money.

I strongly caution others against engaging with this company. They have a history of misleading clients and charging unjustified fees, often refusing to refund payments when challenged. Their approach to customer care demonstrates a lack of integrity and concern for the people they serve.

One of the worst companies I have been…

One of the worst companies I have been stuck with. I got signed up to the go mastercard through a dodgy as hell promotion through Harvey norman where I wanted to purchase something interest free. When I was working the card was no issue as I always paid off the card before interest was accrued.

Being unemployed for many years and not returning to the workforce I have found the card to be a horrible burden as I still need the card for unexpected expenses and can still make payments on time. However they absolutely refuse to transfer me to a card with a lower interest rate and will not even begin to discuss options other than going on a hardship plan which will not help me in the long run.

Customer service is truly terrible. I have not been able to make direct debit payment (a fee free payment) to the card in years and customer service has been truly awful at rectifying what is an odd error. Instead I am forced to use bpay to pay off balances which regularly incurs a fee for every transaction.

All of this from a really sketchy deal that I took up in my young days. I tried to get the account closed years ago while my card balance was zero and after months of being messed around despite written letters emails etc. I ended up having to spend on vet bills and it spiraled from there. A truly dishonest company that got way to many customers because of a really sketchy deal through Harvey Norman.
There are far better options out there, so go with them

Worst company ever

Worst company ever. I added (extra) funds on my Personal Loan, my portal doesn't show it nor have they issued a partial refund because I accidentally over paid and they don't know where my money is. This is absolutely atroshes. Terrible experience and Worst decision I have ever made. I'm disgusted with them! Please get a loan with a more reputable company.

If I could give zero stars I would

If I could give zero stars I would. They charged me fees on a zero balance owing but they will not tell you that. They will not call until you are a few months behind thinking you don't owe them anything because on top of the fees they charge they will also slap on late payment fees. When you sign up you automatically get signed up for paper statements which is another $5 a month on top of everything else. They won't call you straight away, they will just let fees and late charges build up and they will also sting your credit rating even though I was under the impression I owed them nothing. When they do eventually call it comes from multiple numbers all of which show up as "Potential Scam" which tell you everything you need to know about this company. Avoid like the plague.
