We had a very bad experience with London Rewires.

After contracting them to do an electrical survey in Nov 2019 prior to purchasing our house, which went perfectly smoothly, we needed to have an RCB consumer unit installed in our 3-bedroom house in Feb 2020.

We were less than impressed when we discovered 3 months after that was completed that Joel had charged us three or perhaps even four times market rate. We later learned this ordinarily costs £400-£600 depending on complexity of the job, whereas London Rewires charged us £1,722.

When questioned, Joel explained that different electricians charge "different rates" and declined the suggestion of partial refund.

Perhaps it was naïve of us to blindly trust London Rewires without having shopped around before agreeing to go ahead with them, but it seems hard not to come to the conclusion that London Rewires sought to take advantage of us as first-time buyers, who had trusted its professional expertise in good faith.

Unless you have fairly advanced electrical knowledge, recommend steering clear of this company - or at the very least check out any quotations they provide you against the going market rate in case they decide to overcharge you too!

*** A couple of edits to address Joel's response ***

- It was not 2.5 years ago, but 14 months (Feb 2020; original post now edited). It has taken that long, from our perspective, to resolve the matter and complete subsequent unconnected works, hence me only now writing this review.

- The NICEIC eventually signed off only on quality and completion of work by London Rewires. They refrain from passing any advice on price and financial matters. That said, their initial tone of voice was interesting to observe.

- No unqualified electricians gave us any advice. All seven electricians who quoted us between £400-600 for the work for which Joel charged us £1,722 were NICEIC-approved electricians. A simple Google of "how much should installation of RCB consumer unit cost" indicates that range is perfectly reasonable, dependent on complexity of the job.

- Trust the below at your peril.

Used London-Rewires for the first time to do an EICR test in my flat. Joel attended and everything went smoothly. We did have to address one issue on the electrical panel switchboard but this was done very efficiently and competitively. Seamless service and highly recommended!

Joel did an EICR for me. He was knowledgable, friendly and efficient and answered all of my questions fully.

Needed to get an electrical certificate for my property. Professional and excellent service, Dylan (the electrician) needed to return to install an earth wire for the mains pipes that had to be fed through the bathroom. he managed to do this by passing over the bathroom through the suspended ceiling meaning he didn't have to drill through where the sink is and didn't damage the tiles or create unnecessary holes in the wall/sink cabinet etc. Good job all round!

I required an electrical certificate completing quickly. I was able to book this in very promptly and the electrical technician turned up when they said were going to.
Following the inspection I needed some further work completed. I had several queries regarding this, which were answered promptly and a competitive rate was charged for the work I needed doing. I would recommend London Rewires and would use them again.

I was able to book an EICR and PAT at very short notice and the work was carried out quickly and without fuss. Great advice given by the engineer and excellent customer care from the office.
