The cast in Othello was superb. They did a great job following the original story. A very pleasant afternoon
Absolutely spellbinding performance. Exhausting!
Totally superb afternoon. All very good, but the actor I’ve seen many times,Toby Jones, was magnificent! If it wasn’t now so booked up, I’d go again! Staff so helpful as always. Dominik.
Fabulous, condensed and intense. Toby Jones plays the manipulative runt to the hilt. Design is opulently simple and gorgeous. Vocally some cast underpowered . We weren’t in the gods but audibility wasn’t great.
Beautifully spoken and staged. All characters totally believable. Story gripping. I felt real emotion- wanted to strangle Iago and felt so sorry for Othello. Studied it for A level 57 years ago. Coming again in December. Bravo to all involved.
Desdemona's american accent awful
It was okay, a few good and bad bits during the show, not really my thing
Fantastic performance and great theatre experience.
of course this an excellent play, pithy and hard hitting - the update with attention to the original was done with care. Great cast and good use of minimal props thoroughly enjoyed it
Strong production. Preview so couple slips. Thought Iago played it with a tad too much humour over darkness and a few script tweaks made to make it accessible jarred. Not sure why but I didn’t like the American accents for Desdémona and Brabantio, just seemed to jar and Desdémona whilst a brilliant actor maybe best of the night just felt a little old for the part. I’d seen the 1997 production with Harewood and SRB as Iago twice as I loved it. This was very good, that to me was great.
Powerful performances and great theatre to watch
I enjoyed the first half very much with all the comic relief brought out well, particularly by Toby Jones's Iago, and David Harewood's Othello was sufficiently heroic.I enjoyed the latter part of the play less as the comedy seemed to overwhelm the tragedy. Iago was more a comic villain than a subtle schemer, and I hated Desdemona's pyjamas - what recently married young woman wears pyjamas for a planned night of passion.
Just superb!
Absolutely phenomenal performance. All around 11/10!!! I study Othello at A-level so this was an amazing experience to see an adaptation like this which explored the emotion and themes of Othello so well. Very impressive modern adaptation which made the play feel as alive, fresh and relevant as it would've over 400 years ago on the Globe stage. Acting was just.... wow. I was so emotionally moved even when i knew the play inside out and i knew what was coming. I am completely in awe of all the effort put into this production; the actors and actresses, set designers, costume designers, directors, composers, musicians. Just incredible!!! Loved the atmosphere inside the theatre with the audience too, you could feel the collective emotion from the laughs we shared to the shocked silence on the edge of our seats. Amazing.
I went to see othello on 30th March 2024. I did enjoy the play and the actors did a wonderful job. I would have preferred if the actors were all dressed in the Shakespeare era clothes as opposed to modern clothing, I feel that would have allowed me to be more immersed in the play.
An excellent adaptation. The theatre is exceptional and the production makes good use of its available space.
Wonderful adaptation with live music I cannot get out of mind.
Fabulous all around
A really wonderful performance and a positive experience.
