Very Poor Sunday Lunch
We went for Sunday Lunch and were very disappointed with the quality and temperature of the meal.
Before COVID we were regular customers here as the Cold Table was exceptional and the lunch was excellent but what a change now as the Cold Table was very small with a poor selection of items and the Sunday Lunch was cold - the only warm vegetable was the cauliflower cheese. The roast potatoes were also cold and so chewy that we could not eat them and whilst these were changed it tasted like they had just warmed up the same poor quality.
Very disappointed with a previously good restaurant that has reduced the previous high standards to one that will never see us again.
Loud & misplaced DJ set
We stayed last Saturday night with a dinner, bed & breakfast deal. The dining room closed at 9pm, which meant that we would have to leave our planned concert early or get to the bar by 10pm to order from a similar menu. However there was a DJ booked in the bar for the evening. We curtailed our concert so as to make use of our pre-paid dinner. Music was audible from down the street & we arrived to the bar occupied by 2 drinkers while the restaurant had 2 tables with 4 diners. There is no wall or screen separating the bar & restaurant meaning any conversation was impossible & drowned out by the DJ. It was odd considering there were no revellers, no one enjoying the music & the diners were all hurrying to finish & leave as quickly as possible.
We asked the staff why this rather bizarre set up was offered & were told that it was on instruction from the management & they had mentioned the lack of customers but had been told to continue with the loud thumping music & DJ playing to his audience of 2 (although they seemed more fixed to their phones).
I would stress that all the staff we encountered could not have been more delightful & helpful but were unable to actually redress the noise pollution on pain of incurring the wrath of absent management. What was even more bizarre was the demographic of clientele we saw at breakfast (another total chaos but that's a further story) who would not have fitted the loud DJ & music scene had they wanted to relax in the bar - hearing aids, prunes & All Bran being favoured choice.
Both my wife & myself have stayed at Malmaison hotels for business & pleasure over the years always finding them comfortable & hospitable but on this occasion you really failed to come up to the mark. Read the room - or in this case the 2 empty rooms
Amazing Stay at Malmaison Birmingham!
I recently stayed at Malmaison Birmingham for two nights and had a truly wonderful experience. From the moment I arrived, the staff were incredibly friendly, welcoming, and professional they really set the tone for a great stay.
The room was spotless, stylish, and very comfortable. Everything felt fresh and well-maintained, making it easy to relax. I was also impressed with the breakfast a fantastic spread with delicious options that really exceeded expectations.
The location couldn’t be better right in the heart of Birmingham, making it super convenient to get around and explore the city. Everything was easy to find and navigate.
The only small suggestion I’d make is that I would have appreciated being told about the spa services at check-in. I only found out about them through the in room leaflet, and it would’ve been great to know earlier to plan ahead.
Overall, an amazing stay and I’d happily return. Highly recommended!
Went in at 1145am for drink and lunch
Went in at 1145am for drink and lunch. Waited ten minutes at an empty bar before having to shout for service. He said he didn’t know if they were serving. Another waitress came out who said they were. Ordered a basic sandwich and it took over 30 minutes to come out with no apology from staff who were rude and looked annoyed I was complaining. Absolutely disgusting service and food. Avoid
Lovely time and good service

Absolutely lovely hotel
Absolutely lovely hotel, staff can't do enough for you and are friendly and approachable. We stayed as a group of 4 in two twin rooms which were spacious and clean, comfortable beds and good facilities. We were offered a drinks voucher in return for not having our room cleaned the next day which is a brilliant idea and we were pleased to accept. The food in the restaurant was great - although quite a limited choice for vegans, the dish we did have was gorgeous. The serving staff were friendly and knowledgeable and it was a reasonable price - around £30 each for a main and a starter including wine. The staff at the bar were attentive and offered to make us cocktails that were not on the menu if we had a particular preference (we took them up on it and we had a fantastic Moscow Mule and a Salted Caramel Espresso Martini). Big shout out to the Head Barman who was brilliant, checking up to make sure our drinks were good and generally being welcoming and friendly. Would definitely stay again as it's not that much difference in price to a Premier Inn or Travelbodge and so worth the little bit extra!
Spa treatment: Full Body Ritual
I booked myself a week in advance the Full Body Ritual (full body massage, full body exfoliation and scalp massage), I did not stay at the hotel.
I decided to treat myself with some pampering and would like to share my experience. My beauty therapist Freya, was lovely and welcoming. I expressed my concern for specific areas during the massage and she focused on these which have helped with my tension.
The exfoliation is just what I needed, my body is feeling as soft as ever and the oil used was divine as my body was quite dehydrated. The oil had a lovely scent which was not too overpowering.
My favourite part of the service was the scalp massage, ending on this was fantastic as I felt as if I was in the clouds, I would recommend this to anyone.
I will definitely be going again to try their other treatments in the future.
Just ok.............
Hotel room was nice and big but hadnt been cleaned properly, a pair of earrings on the sidetable that weren't ours which is a bit gross.
Nice towls and comfy bed.
Checked in and the person working the desk made our room non chargeable so couldn't order anything to the room.
Room service menu consisted of a couple of toasted sandwiches.
Overall just not impressive we did pay £175 for one night so don't feel like the price matches the standard of service we had.
Tiago & Sonny
Ate at the Brasserie and had a fabulous meal.
Our waiters Tiago and Sonny were excellent!

Fabulous menu and the food was amazing, our evening was made even better by attentive and friendly staff.
Staff terrible cappuccino bitter
Arrived with some friends to have a few drinks. Staff were impolite and uninterested in us.
We were told that we could only sit at our table until we’d had our drinks and would then need to live on.
The 2 guys at the bar are unprofessional and should never be working in such an environment.
My group left with a bitter taste and will never return.

Excellent from arrival to departure
Excellent from arrival to departure. Room brilliant, staff incredibly helpful.
Only slight downside is the VERY expensive parking.
Not such a good experience.
I looked so forward to my meal at Mal Maison Restaurant with my partner on Saturday 2nd February. Unfortunately I was left disappointed with the overall service.
I placed a booking a few days in advance. On arrival we waited at the desk to be seated (as you do). I watched staff walk by as if we were invisible so eventually I approached a staff member who checked our reservation and we were seated.
We didn't know who our waiter for the evening would be (seater didn't speak!) so we waited for a good while before a waiter handed us menus and took our drinks order - there was no "Good evening sir/Madam, my name is xxx and I will be your waiter for the evening...)
The staff appeared rushed and extremely disengaged with the finer art of good customer service and it's delivery. On two occasions I had to leave my seat to ask for service.
Then the food arrived! The starter was very very salty, the main was dry and the dessert burned (creme brulee). I mentioned the starter to the waiter who simply said "you should have told me" - I most certainly would have had he thought to ask (at any stage) "how was your meal Madam / Sir" - Or had be made himself sight available throughout each course. You shouldn't have to leave your table to search for waiter to alight to a problem.
On paying I waited beyond reasonable time for the waiter to get the card machine.
I felt a tad embarrassed, as I had booked this meal for a special occasion and had raved to my partner, prior to our visit, on the great service and food I believed we would receive.
Unfortunately, I won't be returning to this restaurant as it didn't meet my expectations at all. I do hope this post is seen by those who manage the restaurant as the measures to elevate customer experience is simple and mandatory for any fine dining restaurant.
Thank you for taking the time to read this post.
Not the cheapest by far but looked like…
Not the cheapest by far but looked like a great hotel.
Book in reception is always understaffed, slow and painful.
Room was nice and clean and tidy, but the aircon was dreadfully noisy.
I phoned reception, they said its a well known problem in some rooms with this issue, it was full, so no chance of a move.
If you are a light sleeper, make sure you ask for a room without this issue, some others in the party had the same problem.
did complain at checkout (once I could get to it as understaffed again) and they admitted they know about it.... great!
Bar is slow and expensive, but TBF the breakfast we very good.
