Sadly my complaint revolves around a pair of Meindl Rapide GTX shoes. The stitching around the front of the shoe is clearly coming undone after very modest usage. I bought the shoes 19 months ago but... See more

...... the worst boots ive ever
.... rather hilariously the soles might have years n years left.
The uppers started falling to pieces within months. I walk our doglet an hr per day and dont use boots in summer.
Truly atrocious manufacturing.
Meindl leather boots have always been incredible value durability and longevity.
Avoid the synthetic fabric models.
As you'll see the majority are atrocious reviews.

Meindl shoes not fit for purpose
I splashed out on a pair of activo GTX-10 from Hill and Dale, £135.00 is a lot for me to pay for a pair of trainers. They are comfy enough, I bought them to help with my physio after a knee and hip replacement. They were never worn cross country, on rough terrain or for long distances, just about two miles three times a week. After about a year the side of the left shoe split in the toe area. As it's a nylon fabric I heated the area to prevent the split getting bigger. A while later the right shoe did the same. At this point I thought these shoes are not fit for purpose, i.e walking in for exercise purposes. I got in touch with Hill and Dale who said to return them and they would return them to the manufacturer as a warranty claim. Meindl turned down the warranty claim as I had heated the split on the left shoe to stop the split getting bigger, nothing said about the split in the right shoe and it was heated after the split happened not before. I will never buy anything from Mendl again and probably not Hill and Dale. judging by the reviews on trust pilot lot's of people have a poor opinion of this company's products, I wish I had read the reviews first. I will leave a review of these shoes on Hill and Dale's web page and maybe others will not waste money on what is clearly a inferior product not fit for purpose.
I'm so glad I looked up this Trustpilot…
I'm so glad I looked up this Trustpilot page. My experience is slightly different to most. I picked up a second hand pair of Meindls for an absolute steal price in a charity shop (believe it or not). The condition was as though they had hardly been worn. After wearing them for a little while both the feet started to squeak! It was a very loud squeak and really it made them unwearable as it made me uncomfortable and it was embarrassing. I spent a lot of time and effort and some money trying to remedy the squeak ,eventually I solved it by roughing up the soles a bit with a craft knife.Well, I found ,anyway ,that immediately after solving that problem they are now just falling to bits ,with the soles coming apart and water getting in ,just like all the other descriptions here, and now the squeak is coming back anyway. So ,the other thing is ,I still hadn't worked out that there was a problem with Meindl as people always raved on about them on forums ,and facebook camping and walking groups and the like ,in fact ,many people had congratulated me on my bargain purchase and told me I could expect my Meindls to last for about ten years. So,I just thought it was a one off because my boots had come from a charity shop ,and to start with ,my Meindls had been very comfortable.I looked through reviews on many websites and they all seemed to show a fraction under five out of five for review scores ,except ,on the 'Go Outdoors' website I had come across a whole crop of bad reviews for Meindl, they all said the same thing ,that their shoes/boots had started falling apart straight away and within six months to a year. So ,the other day I had all my card details entered and I was just about to click the 'pay now' button to order a new pair for £200 ,but ,something made me stop ,I thought again about the bad reviews I had seen on 'Go Outdoors' and I googled 'Meindl Trustpilot' .I'm wiping the sweat off my brow now and I'm grateful because I realise I have had a lucky escape .£200 is a hell of a lot of money for a pair of boots , it is definitely an amount I do not feel I can spare at the moment for boots that I won't get a good amount of wear out of. I also find it funny that all of the reviews for Meindl on most other sites like Cotswold Outdoor , Hill and Dale Outdoors ,Blacks ,and many, many others are still showing as five out of five for Meindls ,so it makes you wonder if they clean up the reviews to sell a company's products for them and whether a lot of the reviews are fake on those sites.
Poor performing Meindl light weight boots
Bought 2 pairs of lightweight walking boots for wife and 1three years ago
Have had both pairs restitched at toe THREE times ….now they leak …so just replaced with Merrel
Disappointing Meindl's
Meindl MFS Vakuum. (£205 Hill & Dale)
Waterproof for <6 months. Offered new pair or refund.
Decided to upgrade to Meindl Island (£239 Hill & Dale). This pair lasted me 9 months before water ingress ....so "some" improvement.
This time I took the refund & upgraded to Lowa Mountain GTX (£179 Police Supplies) ...no issues as yet, comfortable although not as much as the Island's, same fit size as the Meindl's ....

I coveted a pair of Meindl lightweight boots for a few years. Eventually bought a pair for nearly £200. After just over a year of light usage the sole is detached. Just out of guarantee - Only a year!
I have ten year old Scarpa's in better condition. I have been buying Mountain boots since the 1950's and this is the first time a sole has detached.
Taunton Leisure won't give any redress as the retailer who took my money. Why do the outdoor retailers keep selling this inferior product?
This is Unbelievable, From 5 star to 1 star!!!
I am totally shocked that a German Company called Meindl.de has gone from 5 stars to 1 star when it was handed down to the brothers Lukas & Lars. It is very clear they are in this for the money, and not for the quality of the products their parents and grandparents made the company to be all those years ago. This is what happens when children who just don't care, and just want to fill their pockets with cash! Do everyone a big favour and sell the company to someone who cares about the name Meindl!!! I have been buying boots from Meindl for years, but now they are made poorly, it's as if no one cares anymore. Why should I pay £380 for a pair of Himalaya boots, that are not worth £150? Not only this, but today I received an email from Lukas, and he lied to me, when I asked him if the leather upper of this boot went down to the sole, yes, he said. This is a complete lie. I know the because I own a pair of the above mentioned boots and the leather stops 1cm under the edge of the rubber rand, this is completely unacceptable and lying to a customer, and I am not surprised that Meindl has a score of 83% one star and only 8% 5 star reviews on Trustpilot.com. This shows that Meindl will no longer lead the way with quality walking footwear. Lukas & Lars I hope you are happy at what you have done to a wonderful company that your family spent many years building up just so you could destroy it! Well done both of you!!!
I no longer recommend Meindl walking shoes or boots! Please buy elsewhere. Sorry but the truth hurts!
In German:
Bitte kaufen Sie woanders. Entschuldigung, aber die Wahrheit tut weh!
Poor quality
I got my Meindl's for two days and the sole already started to come off. Sent them back through Ekosport and am waiting for three months now.
I tried through numerous channels to get in contact with them.
£155 For a pair of waterproof walking…
£155 For a pair of waterproof walking boots purchased in the summer for walking my dog leak constantly in the damp/wet grass, worse in rainy weather
Very disappointed in this company.
My experience with meindl boots is not…
My experience with meindl boots is not a good one , the eyelets pulled out within a week so they were exchanged for a new pair for exactly the same to happen now they are out of warranty the mid souls are crumbling , this is not great as they have not been used to warrant such decay , so I brought a pair of lowa boots and these are a billion times better , a propper quality item
Wish I had read the reviews!
I replaced my old Meindl boots with a new pair of Meindl Respond Mid GTX boots and in the first really wet walk they let in so much water I would have been no worse off in sandals!
The quality of Meindl boots has clearly deteriorated in recent years.
MEINDL MENS RESPOND GTX
MEINDL MENS RESPOND GTX, after about 14 months and around 250km of light walking, the soles have delaminated.
I'm extremely disappointed and can't consider Meindl again, as these are expensive shoes for really poor-quality soles.
Premature delamination of the soles.
Our family have used Meindl walking boots for more than 25 years. We found then comfortable, waterproof and durable. However, in the last 5 years we have experienced a serious deterioration in durability. We have had four failures, with three different users, within the guarantee period. In ALL cases, the soles had started to separate from the uppers. resulting in water leaks.
We return the boots to the supplier, who send them to Meindl for assessment. The boots are replaced under warranty, but there has been no explanation for these repeated, premature failures.
It is clear that Meindl has a serious quality issue but appear not to have taken corrective action.
Sadly, I must recommend that you avoid these historically excellent boots until the manufacturer can demonstrate that they have resolved their quality problems.

Excellent boots. Had the meindl Peru for 4 months
Had the meindl Peru for 4 months. After years of trying to find the perfect pair I have found them. These boots were comfortable straight out of the box on their first walk which was 8 miles. No need to break in. I wear them for a wet 3 mile dog walk and 15 mile hikes and I have no complaints. Best boots I’ve ever had. They are pricey but well worth it.
Meindl Durham is a very comfortable…
Meindl Durham is a very comfortable shoe straight from the box! That said , the tongue at the very front started coming apart after 2 MONTHS of normal wear!! I have had Scarpa boots for a few years and still going strong.
Shoes sent back to Meidl in Cumbria, still there after nearly 3 weeks! Poor customer service too! I am questioning the quality of Meindl now! Very disappointed as very pricey!
Bought Meindl Journey GTX less than a…
Bought Meindl Journey GTX less than a year ago to replace the same boot that split around the creases at the front of the boot. Again and quite quickly they started to leak at the seam between sole and rand. Some months later they again split around the front crease on both boots either side and rendering them useless in wet weather. Avoid this brand, £160 x 2 wasted.
Poor quality on more than one occassion
After the fist pair of Bhutans I got, leaked in the first rain even after waxing twice I got a replacement thinking it was just that pair, but the second pair have not held up either. After only a couple of months of usage and waxed several times they leak badly, in drizzle, not even heavy rain. Very dissapointed in the quality.
Meindl bhutans avoid
Meindl bhutans leaking above the toes after a few months. Avoid
Paid high price wanting to try them on.
My rating is not based on the shoe quality but on the service and experience with shipping.
Be warned that you may pay a high price for trying on their boots. I had mine shipped due to no physical shops near and wide. I send them sizing images (as they advertise on the website) and yet they send me a shoe almost 1.5 sizes too large for me and too wide. And I ended up paying $70 out of my own pocket for this experience. As they include shipping ($25) in the price but deduct it when you want to return them from the refund, and they charged me almost $30 for processing fees, and then I payed another $17 for return shipping (note they charged me more for their shipping here then the post charged me for retuning it). I think thats a bit stink from a company that has no physical stores. And they offered to cover cost if I buy another shoe, but at that point I was too scared this would result in more cost if I in the end don't like the shoe. I inquired about cost heavily, but they are quite sneaky about making it all sound much less by not stating the actual costs clearly.
Good tramping boots need to fit, and need to be tried on, and this is way too inaccessible with them.

I’ve had my Bhutan boots for 9 years wearing them every week, Last time I wore them in torrential rain and puddles was the first time my feet were wet.admittedly not waxed them after the last few walks. Very comfortable boots.
