Sadly my complaint revolves around a pair of Meindl Rapide GTX shoes. The stitching around the front of the shoe is clearly coming undone after very modest usage. I bought the shoes 19 months ago but... See more

The Rolls Royce of boots? I don't think so!
Not sure how to start this review as its an ongoing issue with Meindl. Just over 5 years ago I bought which I was told was the best hiking boot on the market the Meindl Bhutans which I absolutely loved and did some decent walks in them.
After about a year there was some gathering of filling around the ankle area, I returned them to Cotswold outdoors who promptly changed them for a brand new pair which I was really pleased about. The boots worked well but the amount of hiking I was doing was reduced due to my relocation.
After about 3 years I noticed that the boots began to let in water on the upper part then soon after that the rubber soles started to detach from the uppers. I contacted Meindl about both issues but I was told that they were out of warranty and that I could get the boots re-soled for £85 but as for the leak there was nothing they could do. I was disappointed in this response as I had really looked after the boots.
Rather than repairing the boots I decided that maybe I should invest in a new pair which I did I bought a new pair of Meindl Kanas GTX, I know you would think this was a bad decision but I really thought that Meindl made great boots and that I'd just been unlucky.
One year after the purchase the rubber lower started to detach from the upper so I returned them to Blacks outdoors who exchanged them for a new pair, good service from Blacks I might add. That was just about a month ago, I'd been breaking the boots in gradually with walks in the local park however I started having issues with the insoles sliding forward. I adjusted the laces to tighten the front part of the boot as I thought it may be caused by too much movement of my feet but thus didn't help, on inspection of the insoles I found that they are size 8.5 my boots are size 9.
It's another trip back to Blacks but I'm afraid the love affair with Meindl is over I'll be changing to a different brand!

This is my 3rd pair of meindl airstream chainsaw boots the last two pairs I've had lasted about 2 years a a pair. This pair have lasted around 6 months. Speaking to other tree surgeons and they all have the same problem. Will not buy them again and pretty sure most tree surgeons have moved on from what was know as the best boots around.
Absolutely NOT waterproof …
I bought Meindl Respond women’s walking boots £150. For a couple of weeks they were fine, very comfortable. Then it rained fairly heavily. I kept walking and after 5 mins I could feel water coming through the sides and by the time I got home, my feet were soaked through, I could wring water out of my socks. They are about as waterproof as my slippers, despite the label saying they have a waterproof Gortex lining. The shop I bought them from were great! ( Taunton Leisure) and agreed willingly to refund my money. These boots are fine for a sunny dry day but definitely NOT suitable for an average uk hiking day.

Great boot but the glue failed and the soles fell off. I bought Meindl, at $260, to get away from the lesser brands with cheap glue. But I was duped. Meindl uses the same cheap glue as the cheap stuff. Then Meindl told me to find a cobbler. So if you must get Meindl, just know they won't be useable after the warranty expires.
Meindl Hiker fails and so does the company.
My $290 Meindl hiking boots have already failed, after only three seasons of light use. Between uses they were in my closet like all my other shoes. The midsole have deteriorated and the soles are separating. The company doesn’t stand by its product and says the charge to fix them would be more than half the replacement cost. Read the warranty and all the exclusions. Don’t buy Meindl, they are a waist of your money.
Leaking boots, rotten response!
My Meindl Gore-tex boots cost more than I've ever paid before. After a few easy walks they both leaked. My retailer sent them back to Meindl who said it was my fault! I could not get a refund. I was cheated. Don't buy Meindl.
I bought a pair of Meindl Bhutan
I bought a pair of Meindl Bhutan. I have cared for lovingly as per Meindl instructions treating with Grangers G wax regularly. The leather where the forefoot bends started to crack on the left boot first , similarly this has happened on the right boot. Cracking has also appeared where the rubber skirt joins the leather around the boot perimeter. The soles on the sides are also now showing cracks and look like they will be detaching from the boot shortly. I contacted the UK distributors , they were not interested , as far as they were concerned they were not looked after correctly ...end of story. I have a pair of Scarpa Asolo which I bought in 1985 yes 1985 which are in better condition than the Meindl.
Doesn't do what it says it does.
I don't have an issue with the boots.... yet. I bought them from 'GO' last month. The wide fit was what I was looking for and unfortunately one of the most expensive on the rack, but fitted like a glove. However, reading the feedback and complaints on here, I am now concerned. My complaint is with the Meindl sprays for leather and Nu-buck supposedly created for conditioning and waterproofing. Does it bugger. I have applied nearly a can-full in the time I have had them. I follow the intructions to a 'T' both on the can and their website, and still the boots get soaked. I haven't worn them in the rain, it's just the dew on the grass in the morning. The water doesn't even bead, as you would expect on a waterpoof coating, they just soak up the wet like a sponge. The wet hasn't penetrated the Gortex liner yet but it's only a matter of time as the leather/suede does nothing to prevent the ingress. I tried to contact Meindl on their website but of course there is no provision to contact them. The place where I bought the spray will not be able to resolve the issue as they are not technical advisers on the product but merely sellers. Not impressed at all. I have worn the boots maybe half a dozen times and each time they are sodden even after all this spraying. It seems that all the so called quality producers of walking footwear have lost their direction and profit is the order of the day and everything has little longevity.

Bought a pair of meindel boots wore them 5 times and stored dry for a couple of years. Sole fell off. No satisfaction from Midiel our Great Outdoors Dublin. Would not buy again
Shoes from Primark would last longer
Failed Caribe GTX 2 men’s shoes
Bought men’s Caribe GTX 2 years ago. Moderate use of shoes for commuting which obviously has not been happening that much. Laces frayed and snapped within one year. Bought replacement laces but now the lace retention strap has snapped too rendering one shoe completely unusable. Very expensive poor quality shoes - do not buy. Will revert to Merrells which seemed to last years with no issues.

Brought a pair of meindl engadin boots from a company in France at the end of September 2020 and by December 2020 I had to send them back to them to be repaired as the rubber around the base of the boot was peeling away. Wouldn’t have minded if they were a year old but they were only 3 months old and probably worn them about 20 times. Sent back and took months for me to get them back. After several emails to the company in France and a moan they arrived back to me mid June. Worn them now a few times and noticed the rubber at the front of my right boot is starting to peel away! Little annoying as they cost me £238. And only worn them about 25 times. Nothing too bad or rough walking and they are falling apart. Terrible boots. Cheaply made. Doubt I’d buy a pair of meindls again!
Meindl boots : surprisingly poor quality.
Surprisingly for a German brand, extremely poor quality. My right boot fell apart after just one year. I tried to get an explanation from Meindl customer service but they merely passed the buck to the retailers, Blacks, through whom the boots were delivered via Amazon. These are Meindl boots and nothing to do with Blacks. A very disappointing experience. Meindl boots are not recommended at all.
Pflege II's.
I have the Pflege II's and I must say I am surprised by the negative reviews for their other boots. The PII's are a medium weight approach shoe that I find perfect for dry weather hiking, particularly when it's hot. I have worn mine hard for the last 2 years and just completed the Hong Kong trail (50km with 1700m climb) and they were just brilliant.
Super comfortable and, although I have sadly almost worn mine down, they still have a great grip. I must have walked about 3000km in these so they are probably on their last legs. I will be sad to see them go. Changed the laces for the first time today and no issues with the quality that others appear to have had.
Kansas GTX boots - sole issue replied free of charge
Had a pair of Kansas GTX boots. The sole started to come away from the shock absorbing layer despite only relatively light use. Contacted Meindl who were a bit reluctant to address the problem as I had owned the boots for a couple of years and didn't have the original receipt, however, after I persisted and returned them to Bramwell International (UK Agent) they were sent to Germany and resoled free of charge. Has helped to reestablish my confidence in the brand.
Poorly made or no quality control.
Bought these online from Ellis Brigham on 10th March 2021. Have been walking my dog in local park as current Covid keeping me from the hills. Great looks, fit and grip however in mid April 2021 I notice my left heal was rubbing as stitching at heel had started to split. This morning one of my right shoe laces spilt the outside sheath. Never used Meindl before so do not know if these are regular occurenaces.
The boots are poor quality these days
The boots are poor quality these days. Expect the soles to fall off and meindl customer care will tell you it’s part of the ageing process. The customer care team want you to keep paying for the boots to be resoled.
Despite the made in Germany claim none…
Despite the made in Germany claim none of the Meindl shoes or boots that I've purchased have lasted more than 10 months. Shoddy workmanship with soles and uppers that fall apart. Their reseller channel doesn't care about the quality once the product is sold. Their GTX shoes are unfit for purpose and are best considered to be a disposable item that needs to be binned shortly after usage. Buy another brand as your hard earned money is wasted on Meindl.
Meindl Activo Sport shoe
Meindl Activo Sport shoe. Four months of medium use caused them to disintegrate. So disappointing. Bought them in Germany, live in Denmark. Now customer support in both countries point to each other leaving a very unhappy ex-customer barefooted. Stay away from Meindl.

Bought mine for £170 in sept 20 and they are now falling apart, I use them everyday for dog walking but now the sole is slowly detaching, they felt like slippers which made me spend the extra but after 3 months the cushioning wore out. Wish I’d of read the reviews before I bought so it’s my own fault and after reading these I’m not going to waste my time complaining as the CS sounds as good as their warranty commitment.
I am in search and rescue and so spent…
I am in search and rescue and so spent ages considering new boots. Opted for the Meindl Bhutan mfs and proofed them and waxed them both times I have worn them. Wet inside all along where the insole meets leather. I'm really fed up as at £200 I now wait for the supplier the reply and although I've only worn them twice you can tell as they are scratched due to the work I do searching. Really disappointed that they are no better than my previous hi Tec which lasted 10 years.
