Efficient service

Efficient service - would be 5 stars but the removal didn't finish until 6.30pm and could have been earlier with less tea breaks!

Very professional.

Can not thank them more for seamlessly moving the contents of two 20ft storage containers from Lancashire to the Isle of Wight. Pleasant staff always happy to help and above all the most competitive. Will reccomend to anyone moving.

A very professional company

A very professional company, the crew we had, Roger, Bugs & Tyler worked very hard, they were very helpful with advice, they were prompt & courteous. We moved a distance of 188 miles without incident. We would recommend Mew the Movers.

Threw boxes out of the window...

The movers worked hard on one of the hottest days of the year however the labelled boxes ended up dumped in random rooms. One of the men made sarcastic comments about items he was moving and when loading the van they were seen throwing (this was actually witnessed and is no exaggeration!) our boxes out the first floor window and catching them below (they were not passed, as that would be impossible from a first story window, but dropped to the person below). The definition of throw is to 'propel (something) with force through the air by a movement of the arm and hand' this accurately describes the process of propelling a box downwards from an upstairs window in my opinion) Sadly an item of great sentimental value got broken. The box it was in was clearly marked as fragile and would have been moved from the upstairs room, it was probably one of those that was dropped out the window. The breakage was discovered around a month after the move as it took that length of time to unpack all the boxes (quite normal when you move the entire contents of a family home and in fact we still have some left sealed!). Those boxes were left where the removers had stacked them until we unwrapped them so there is no doubt that the breakage occurred during the removal. The company have since refused to take any responsibility despite a very nicely worded email (not a review as stated) from my husband raising it with them when we discovered it.

I have since obtained the following legal advice:

By law, any contract for services must be carried out with reasonable care and skill, within a reasonable time and at a reasonable cost. The 'care and skill' that you can expect is the same that a reasonable person can expect from a reasonably competent removals company of their particular quality or reputation. Therefore, if the removal company damages anything during the move, you might have a claim against it.

Additionally, a removal company is legally responsible for any damage done while your property is in their possession as they must take reasonable care of it under the law of 'bailment' (in England and Wales) or 'custody' (in Scotland).

Regardless of whether the box was 'thrown' 'dropped' or 'passed' the fact remains the same: the item was broken whilst in the care of the company and they have refused to take responsibility.

I’m very sorry you where so unhappy with our service especially as your husband sent me the review below over a fortnight ago.

“I just wanted to touch base with you regarding our move. Somehow we chose one of the hottest days of the year, but the guys all worked their socks off from 9 until 5 when they finally left. They must have been exhausted after all of that & I wanted to pass my thanks for all they did for us.

We have discovered one breakage, a blue and white jug and bowl was in several pieces when we unwrapped it. from the looks of it, I would say the box was dropped at some point as the item was pretty well wrapped in bubblewrap. I documented the condition with pictures when it was opened. I don't know if we have any cover for such items, but I thought I had better flag it up.

Iain”

Our reply,

“Thank you for your kind comments.
Further to your comments I’m sorry you had a jug and a plate damaged. I regret as your Goods where not packed by ourselves as our Terms and Conditions state we cannot be held liable for there contents, furthermore breakages need to be reported to us within 7 days.
I really hope this didn’t tarnish your removal to much and hope that overall you where satisfied.
Kind regards
Mew the Movers”

Large items may be passed through a window it was a hot day 35c and it may save running up and down stairs but I think using the term throwing boxes out of a window is an exageration in fact later in the same sentence you say dropped, so I would suggest thrown Is an exageration, 2 of our staff are well over 6ft tall you moved out of a cottage so the distance from an upstairs window to the person below is not very far. The breakage was reported to us over a month after your removal that a jug had been broken and was in your husbands words flagged up, we are very sorry if it was of sentimental value.

Great service, very happy 10/10 A+++++

What a great easy experience, great price and very friendly helpful packers. The whole team were very good, I could not find a fault! They were early and did all what was needed (also helped with other little things like shutting tall windows etc). I have used Mew the Movers in the past and will do so again in the future. Another great experience compelled me to write this review. Your awesome guys keep up the good work. I will continue to recommend you to everyone I know.
Thanks again
Mr and Mrs H

Highly Recommended

I used Mew the Movers (Isle of Wight) to move house recently and found them to be very helpful and pleasant. Where I lived, the men had to contend with 30 steps outside the house, up to the road, so it was no easy task. I never heard them complain! And the price also was very reasonable. Jean Porter
