MILAN DIRECT ignoring and protracting correspondence to avoid REFUND

We bought 4 Hans Wegner style chairs from Milan Direct and paid £100 for delivery to the UK. The chairs arrived and are very poor quality, all 4 have faults. Glue showing up badly on joints, two chairs have short legs by 2cms so they rock, elbows of chairs aren't even, on one chair one side is shorter by 6cms, scuff marked and colours don't match! A pretty comprehensive list of faults that I documented with photographs and sent back to Milan Direct. Heard nothing, then you get an automated response, then nothing, then an email asking me to group all the faults by individual chair-they are all faulty! I don't want part replacement I just want a FULL REFUND as the chairs are totally INFERIOR AND POOR QUALITY. I have repeatedly pointed out that according to their T&C's I am entitled to a refund within their 14 day money back guarantee, but they have just ignored this. In my frustration I have taken to Twitter and have informed my credit card company, to get a charge back on their account. I have even tried to contact the Managing Director Dean Ramler, whop,of course is not contactable, he should be aware of how his customers are being 'looked after'. I would NEVER BUY FROM MILAN DIRECT again and think he has taken a great concept in manufacturing repro design classics, but has completely messed it up by supplying cheap inferior products, badly made in China. Then backing this up with a poor and arrogant belief that when things go wrong you ignore your customers and they will slink off. This correspondence might prompt them to address my case, but so far they don't seem to care less...

AVOID! AVOID! AVOID! This company at all costs!!!

After placing my order for the Noguchi coffee table (stated as 'in stock') on their web site, was emailed a day later by customer sales who informed me that the table was in fact out of stock. Very cheekily, they assumed that I would be happy to wait until June until the next batch of delivery was due - without consulting me as to whether I wanted to wait for the new batch or cancel my order for a full refund. I required the table urgently and could not wait 2 MONTHS for the next delivery. I subsequently asked for a cancellation and immediate refund as I would now have to purchase elsewhere. The company used what I would call 'delay tactics' in order to retain my money for as long as possible. They did this by sending me at least 3 emails to confirm 3 times if I would rather have a credit to use at a later date!!!! I sent at least 3 correspondences to state that I wanted to cancel and immediately wanted my money back on to my PayPal account, NOT a credit!!! I mean what an absurd suggestion!!! Like yeah, you hold on to my money and I'll fork out further to purchase a table elsewhere. I am also aware refunds can be immediate if paid via PayPal as experienced with other cancellations in the past. Well nearly 2 weeks on and still no refund as promised (by Charlotte from customer service) who said it would be back in my account within 3-5 working days. STILL no show nearly 10 days since cancelling my order. I have put in a claim with PayPal and surprise surprise, they as yet have not refunded! In my eyes a very DODGY, DISHONEST and UNRELIABLE company to deal with. A shame really, as Milan Direct seem to have lots of nice reproduction furniture pieces at good prices. I will never trust this company again!

Excellent Service. Had email communication back to a query beforehand as well!

Having had an order for 4 stools incorrectly supplied from another Company I quickly needed to order replacements from elsewhere. I placed the order and sensibly put a note on the order quoting that the website said that the items were in stock and that shipping was usually within 24 hours, I emphasised that if this couldn't be the case i wished to be advised and the order immediately cancelled. All good, until whilst later flicking through the internet for another item I happened upon a bunch of really bad reviews for Milan Direct! Including delivery times, no communication and no telephone number to call and seek comfort! Given the importance of getting these items promptly this sent me into a bit of a panic and probably ended up doing what everyone else seems to have done and tried to find a means to contact them through Companies House, Google Maps, etc. All to no avail and MD's policy of no telephone number certainly doesn't do them any favours here! However, out of the blue I received an email from Charlotte at MD's Sales & Customer Service dept. confirming the items were in stock and that they would be despatched within the 24 hours as required! Sure enough I later got a tracking number and they arrived within 24 hours! I could be very lucky but from where I was initially kicking myself for not having checked the forums before I placed the order they did supply on time a good product at a good price. So, the problem they have is that if I had seen the forum stuff beforehand I almost certainly wouldn't have risked placing the order BUT for me the have been really good. To get over this they need to consider a phone line within customer service. For all we all know there may be many thousands of successful orders completed a week but people don't tend to write them up. They need to re-assure their potential and actual customers. In business there can always be problems in supply but it is how a business manages that problem that determines their worth. For the relatively low cost of a phone line and a person on the end it could greatly turn MD's online forum presence around. If people know that they aren't going to get something until X date, they may still wait if advised soon enough. If they are given an opportunity for an immediate refund because of this how could they not get good reviews for running a fair and open business. I have given them 5 stars based solely on my experience which is the only fair way to go about it and if they get a taste for 5 stars perhaps they will consider what they can do differently and better for their other customers. It's all in their hands!

Poor service, poor quality ... UPDATED REVIEW - given partial refund

UPDATE - I emailed customer service and they promised to give me £158 back on my order, which I felt was equitable. Based on other reviews I feel they are making strides to enhance their image.
= = =
Zero communication on when I could expect delivery .. 24hr dispatch on website not accurate on my order. Then dispatch without warning when I had asked them several times to give me a window so I could plan. Delivery in London - over 100 quid ... and the driver was going to leave the sofa curbside but luckily someone told him no and helped him carry it to my door.

When I opened the box my black sofa was covered in blue film. It eventually came off a vigorous cleaning ... premium leather? No. Chrome dirty and scratched? Yes. Lesson learned because I was going to order quite a few more items but I wisely decided to order one item first and see how things turned out.

Delivery was expensive and rubbish - probably goes to the company to pad the 'low' price. I've asked for some money back - if they try to make it right I will will amend my review but at this point I will never do business with them again and I will not recommend them.

Poor service and low quality!

Took more than a week to receive my item. The noguchi table is missing the connecting piece for the legs(base). Called Milan Direct and finally got the missing piece today after about 2 weeks of waiting and several calls and email.
Another thing is the imperfection of the glass top. Some area is not evenly cut and is not smooth at all. There is a small part which is stained and couldn't be removed even after wiping it with windex. The base is abit wobbly. I have owned 2 noguchi table before which are not from Milan Direct, and frankly speaking the quality and workmanship is much much better.
Thinking of returning and getting a refund, but then will have to bear both the shipping cost myself. I would imagine that will cost a lot as the glass is quite heavy. For about the same price or even a bit more I will definitely get it from somewhere else as I can have a look at the quality first at the showroom.
Just my unpleasant experience with Milan Direct, too bad. Will definitely think twice before getting anything from Milan Direct again.

Good service in my experience

I had read all the reviews about MD and was dubious about purchasing lights from here and the quality of the products. Having inquired at customer service regarding stock and refunds etc I proceeded to buy my lights. I got confirmation next day and followed by a dispatch note and my products were delivered promptly.

Good service all round with no problems, I believe issues may occur because the customer services is abroad? (12/24Hr delays in response) Also smaller products unlike chairs which people have had problems with seem fine for delivery and stock.

Thumbs up from!

Avoid this company at all possible costs

Spent time reviewing the web and was looking to buy a grant featherston chair. Chair on the site was 'reduced' in their sale, but look closely, they have tripled the delivery charge. £125 to deliver a chair to London, complete con. This company WILL NOT give out a telephone number to customers, all business completed by indifferent sales team. Also you cannot get a delivery date in advance for furniture purchased from this company. Customers are time poor, this is 2014, this company have little respect for customers. A really poor service from a dodgy supplier. Avoid.

Very Poor Service

I ordered the deluxe mesh ergonomic office chair with headrest. However I was sent the wrong chair. I was given the deluxe mesh ergonomic office chair - low back without the headrest. What was even worst was
1) No assembly instructions was sent with it. So I had to email and request one to be send.
2) The wrong chair that was sent to me had no left armrest. Instead they had given me 2 right armrest of different colour. One was grey and the other black!

It seems that Milan Direct has not only sent me the wrong chair but most likely a used (or second hand) one as it did not have an instruction manual and had two right armrest and a missing left armrest. What is worst is they have no contact number to call and get an explanation.

Appalling customer care

I tried to order a chair from Milan direct, the order was confirmed. The next day I received a very intimidating e mail accusing me of fraud and that I had been reported to other retailers and 'the authorities and serious crime squad.' . Clearly this is very concerning as I did not want my credit rating affected or for my card to be refused.
I spoke to online action fraud and my card provider and they were confident it was empty threats,

Milan e mailed me (NEVER) buy from a no phone number company to say it wasnt a fraud but they have not notified the authourities! no apology

4 months lead time

We (small business) first brought 6 chairs from Milan Direct UK a couple of years ago and they arrived, fully assembled and pretty promptly. However, one arrived broken. Milan replaced this chair with no problems and I received good customer service.

So when we needed more chairs, I went straight to Milan again. The same chairs were shown in stock for immediate delivery and I contacted customer services about a discount on a order of 9 (totalling approx. £1500). They were nice enough to provide a very small one.

Ordered and paid to be told only 3 were currently available. Our date of payment was early September and the estimated delivery time would be... December!

Wanting the chairs to match, We agreed to wait and receive all the chairs at the same time.

The chairs finally arrived on December 14th. Again one was broken, the time needed to get the part replaced 2-3 weeks. Its now January 9th and the part hasn't arrived.

Would we buy from Milan Direct again? No chance! Would we recommend them to anyone? Only if they were happy to wait a long, long time!

The chairs we order were put on sale between the time of ordering and delivery. Also the design has been slightly changed, so they don't even match. Just another couple of annoyances.

UPDATE: To their credit Milan Direct have just provided a £50 off voucher code. Just a shame this was offered before I made this complaint. Adjusted my star rating accordingly.

Poor poor service

I bought an item from Milan Direct on the 10th of April and received an email from their courier company saying that I would take delivery of the item on the 23rd of April guaranteed by 16:00 hours. As part of their terms and conditions is that you have to be in for delivery this meant taking a day off work. I sat in all day and waited and waited......guess what no sign of them come 17:00 so I went onto the Milan Direct Website and they do not even have a contact number.

After emailing them I have had no response so having to go through a paypal charge back............

There furniture may be beautiful but I have no way of knowing this as they are unable to deliver!
