I had a fantastic experience at Motorserve Solihull! From the moment I contacted them the staff were welcoming and professional. They took the time to explain the issues with my car in detail and offered solutions that were both affordable and effective. The service was quick without sacrificing quality, and they even went above and beyond to clean my car before handing it back. I really appreciated their transparency with pricing, and they kept me updated throughout the process. Definitely a trustworthy place, and I’ll be coming back for any future car needs. Highly recommend! Special mention to Hamza and Arfan who have been brilliant ! Review by Zamal from Alum Rock!

The worst experience ever with a…

The worst experience ever with a garage!! and not very good approachment with me (woman) Becareful!! There was a malfunction signal of dasboard in my car so my husband took the car into this garage. They advised us they needed to completely replace parts and the value of fixing it would be £1050. They asked us to pay in advance a 100% into their bank (credit card machine was not working!!) which we thought it was not right so we agreed to pay £600 as gesture of good faith (surprisily the credit card machine worked this time) The following day the fault cleared itself!! so we decided to cancel the service. We thought that the charge for the diagnostic £ 65 plus another £25 for admin would be fair but they wanted a total of £185 and the total amound REFUNDEd was for £415. The refund took more than a week only because my husband was chasing them nearly on daily basis, always full of excuses!! We will never use this garage AGAIN, WE HAD A VERY HARD TIME!

Hi Nancy. We mostly dealt with your husband. So the real story here is, you booked your car in for a diagnosis, the car came in, the fault was found and explained to you. You agreed for the repairs, and authorised the works and the order of the parts (special delivery - non returnable). You needed the car back for the weekend, and the parts were going to take a couple of days anyway, so we cleared the faults and returned the car for you to use. Payment was made for the parts alone, and we agreed for that split (exactly for the reason thats about to come ahead) - We went ahead and ordered once we had received the parts payment. You then called on Monday and said the fault had magically cured itself and you wanted to cancel. We explained the fault has temporarily gone as we have cleared the faults, it may come back at any time. However you insisted. We then got into a wrangle with our supplier for them to take the part back and to refund us the money, they didn't agree, and it took our Director a few days to get the branch manager of the supplier to agree, but they have charged us a handling and restocking fee. Which we agreed to pass on with your husband and also to cover the initial diag hourly fee as your car has been in to us and had time spent on it by our technicians, who are not free for us to have here, just to add. Your husband agreed that all would be well if the agreed amount was returned on Thursday, which it was and he was spoken to multiple times by the service advisor looking after your car and job. He was very amicable, but said he couldn't guarantee how you would feel, which is evident with this review left the moment the refund was provided to you. Hopefully your fault doesn't return, and if it does and you do need us to do the works for you, we will have to charge you in advance this time for the whole amount as you have cancelled after agreeing to the works and after ordering parts in especially, and then negatively reviewing us after YOU changed your mind.

Took Money from a Cancelled Subscription!

I cancelled my Motorserv membership in mid August and gave month's notice. Today in October I have had money taken out. Called to request a refund only to be passed around to three people and be told there is "a system update" and not sure when the update will be completed nor when I can get a refund.

Hi, thanks for your review. Sorry to hear about your experience. Ahsan is our MotorClub administrator, and when you left a message in August, he called and left you a VM to get this arranged. He didn't receive a call back. You were passed through Service to the Service manager who then located Ahsan and passed you through. The whole system is being backed up and updated today, and he will get this all checked through (for services used up etc) and will cancel the plan and will call/email you tomorrow to confirm. Any monthlies paid, will be refunded onto your card via the system for the extra month. Dissapointed that you felt this excercise required a 1* review to be left, but we will get this matter sorted out and Ahsan will be in touch with you tomorrow to confirm. Thanks again for your feedback ad message on here. We have over 600 members on Motor-Club now and the system is quite vast and we constantly have updates to make it run well and to optimise it's data security.

Hi Phillip. Really sorry to hear about your experience, and this doesn't sound like the normal service and routine that we operate. We have spoken to the team who served you yesterday and they have tried to contact you today to see if they can appease you, and to see what we can do to help get things straight with you. Unfortunately they have been unable to contact you. We don't do 'waiting' slots for services starting at 2pm, as all our 'day jobs' come in between 8am and 10am typically every morning. Cars are run through VHC's and then the booked services, and then scheduled for any 'additional works' through the afternoon with additional parts arriving on customer approval. Your appoinment was for the morning as usual, and you apologised for being late due to work, and the guys pushed your car in and got it slotted in as soon as technicians had finished the jobs they were on. They got your car serviced, VHC done, Valeted and a carbon clean done on your engine within a 2.5 hour window and had the car finished for the close of the day. They did their best, and managed to still turn it around for you. You said you were happy to wait, and they did the work as soon as the technician became available. Not sure what else we could have done better, and the service team did all they could to get your car done despite the delay from the morning in your arrival. Sorry if this did not meet your expectations, and you feel it necessary to leave negative reviews and vow to never return to us, but ultimately the team appeared to have done the best they could given the timing, and they felt happy to have got your car done and ready for you to leave by close. If you feel we could do anything to improve, please do let us know: solihull@motorservuk.com or call 0121 733 3387 and ask for Hamza/Arfan who will be pleased to talk to you and come to whatever arrangement they can to retain your custom for the future.

Keep up the good work and kudos to you guys!

As we’re touring England during our summer break, the reminder/warning indicator popped up on our dashboard showing “visit near nearest workshop to check brakes”. We called them well after their operational hours were over! Surprisingly, they responded and asked to visit them first thing in the morning on the following day! They performed a very professional and extraordinary execution and everything’s completed in a matter of very short hours waiting time! Keep up the good work and kudos to you guys! Cheers!!!

Over £2500 to pass MOT SCAM!

MotorServ tried to put £2500 worth of repairs on my car to pass the MOT. I took it elsewhere and my car passed an MOT requiring only a new tyre. There was even potential sabotage to my car, ask any garage how many engine mounts they see with a puncture…
They are scam artists only attracting people in with a £15 MOT to load on unnecessary repairs. Stay away.

Sorry to hear about your experience and just to note, the Service VHC prior to MOT highlights any parts and items requiring change before your next service interval is due. We have an 80% + first time MOT pass rate, and it's run completely seperately in the workshop to other works. If the MOT would pass, it would do so under DVSA conditions and the testers are very experienced and run solely on MOTs, they don't get involved with the service or remedial works. Glad your MOT did pass, and your complimentary VHC will hopefully give you an indication of items required in the near future or likely to be required, and you can now monitor those items and get them changed/repaired in due course. Thanks for the feedback and it's shame you had to leave a review and didn' come back to the team with your grievances.

Scammers

Scammers. First of all I waited 2 1/2 hours for an Mot. Failed to give me an update when I asked. I was told my car failed on emissions. Then it turns out the emmisions are fine but my anti roll bar joints are too corroded.

Hi Ethan, sorry to hear about your experience. Emmission were probably cleared through which enabled it to pass on that element, the Anti roll bar joints, if they are a fail, they are a fail, no real grey area of wiggle room on those? if you get them done, we will re-test for just £10 and your fail will have been free. Thanks for using us, we only do slots for waiting in the morning for this exact reason, as we cannot guarantee the time keeping and job durations for other cars in the workshop so always advise customers to leave their cars for the day or as long as possible. Hopefully you were able to keep yourself busy on the Wifi in the waiting room. Being the cheapest MOT in the Country it can get busy, so we can only apologise for the wait you had to endure.

I was without a car for over a week.

I was without a car for over a week.
No updates given at any point, I had to ring daily for the current position
No courtesy car offered despite stating on the answer phone that one would be given.
They refused to do the work until I had paid up front which was £1000+
Overall very dissatisfied. I would definitely not recommend.

Hi Julie, sorry to hear about your experience and that it was not a smoother repair for you. If parts are special order/non returnable from the suppliers, then payment in advance is usually sought. This is the same as most garages, and where we haven't done it, we have a lot of parts on ebay for sale as testament to this fact, that suppliers then won't take them back leaving us out of pocket by a large margin. Courtesy cars, we have 6, 4 auto's and 2 manuals. They are usually booked 4-6 weeks in advance as they are hugely popular, we are working on getting more, but as the centre is quite busy, we do get these booked up a lot, so sorry one wasn't available for your car while it was in. We hope we can do better for you in future, and can book one for you for any regular maintenance/service work you may been in future. If you want to drop us a line at solihull@motorservuk.com, with your details and ref this review, we will provide you with a discount code for any future services/mots booked with us. Thanks for the feedback it's been relayed to the team also, to help them improve in future, you can probably see fromthe majority of reviews on here and other platforms, this isn't the norm at all for us, so apologies once again that the team slipped up on your last visit.

Absolutely appalling

To cut a long story short, absolutely appalling – this garage said the car needed £831.02 worth of work doing in order for it to pass its MOT. Got a second opinion from a more reputable garage today – car passed MOT without even an advisory.

Full story here:

Within a couple of hours of the car being dropped off, I received a text message and email with link to video of the car being examined, with a long itemised list underneath with eight red flags and three amber flags, adding up to £1926.02 of work.

I phoned the garage to ask what the flags meant, obviously assuming that a red flag means the car will fail its MOT without the work. The man then told me that only the items that say (MOT) in brackets are fails, which I think is misleading.

The £831.02 of red flag MOT fails were for both rear tyres (which were replaced three years ago and I do minimal mileage), as well as front and rear brake discs and pads.

There were a further five red flags which added up to another £925, as well as the three amber flags which added up to £170, giving the overall total of £1926.02 of work being advised.

I decided to get a second opinion, so I told the man on the phone not to continue with the MOT.
He then said he had spoken to the technician, and the car “might” pass its MOT, and he repeated this several times because I was in disbelief. Firstly, I’d just been told three major reasons why the car would fail its MOT. Secondly, this garage had just carried out a comprehensive health check on the car to reveal all these red and amber flags, so how could they be unsure as to whether it would immediately pass or fail its MOT?

I told the man I didn’t want an MOT, and I just wanted to collect the car. When I collected the car from the garage, there was a half-eaten bag of crisps on the passenger seat, which I returned to them.

One week later, I have taken the car to a different garage, to be told that there is absolutely nothing wrong with it! The car passed its MOT without even an advisory!

Just as a side note, the garage owners today were aware of the previous MOT findings, but they did not tell their MOT engineer so that they could carry out a totally unbiased service.

Having read some other reviews of the garage, where they are negative, the owners reply pretty convincingly to refute the reviews, but I have been totally factual and accurate here in outlining exactly what has happened.

Hi Becca. Sorry to read and hear about this experience. Just to note, our MOT Testers don't carry out pre-test checks and advise on works before an MOT. They work independently in the workshop and have their own facilities. The VHC you are describing is a 'service vehicle health check'. The software we use, which thousands of garages use across the UK, highlight particular items for periodic change, so there would have been: Brake fluid, Carbon Clean, Motor-Club plan, Alignment, Aircon regas listed as items with prices to get done if you wish. The service advisories on your tyres stated cracking between tread, and brakes are required before your next scheduled service. I.e. your service interval on the car may be 12k - 20k miles time, so the service techs base their VHC's on the service requirements on your Car. The MOT check in itself, is a snapshot of now, and passes or fails dependent on if the car is roadworth and legal now or not. So service advisories won't necessarily be MOT fails, so you should have been explained this better on the telephone. If you can came in for a service and that was completed, the car would have been washed/vac'd. If it was abandoned and you came to get the car, then it may not have been through the wash and vac, but yes there should not have been a half eaten bag of crisps left in your car! For that we are left astonished and can only apologise. Will refer this to the managers responsible for their teams. If you want this looking into further, we would be glad to pull up your car video from archive, and run through this with you and make anything clear and look to help with any inconvenience and stress caused with all of this. Our site has an 80% + first time MOT pass rate, and we are the busiest independent centre in Solihull for MOTs, so our testers (4 full time on site right now) are very experienced and follow DVSA regulations to the T. Glad you got the MOT sorted out, and if you were charged anything by our team for works you don't feel happy about, let us know at: solihull@motorservuk.com with the details referencing this review, and we will look to assist on it.
