Just 5 days before I was going to pick up the rental car at Keflavik airport I received an e-mail informing me that Nordic Car Rental didn't have a car for me and was canceling the agreement.
NEVER had such an experience before. Truly a lousy company.
Car reservation confirmed and then cancelled
My confirmed car rental reservation was cancelled months before my trip because of supplier overbooking. A confirmed booking should be honoured, especially when customers rely on it to plan their holidays. I received a refund, but I now have to find another rental during peak season at much higher prices. Very disappointing experience.
Confirmed Booking Cancelled Days Before My Trip
I booked a rental car through StressFreeCarRental.com several months in advance and received a confirmed reservation. Just a few days before my trip, my booking was cancelled.
After contacting customer service, I was informed that the cancellation was due to overbooking by their supplier, Nordic Travel Group. In other words, my confirmed reservation could not be honoured because they had accepted more bookings than they could fulfil.
I have been told that I will receive a full refund. However, despite this assurance, I have not yet received the refund.
Even if the refund is processed, this does not solve the problem. Booking months in advance is supposed to guarantee both availability and price. Cancelling a confirmed reservation just a few days before a trip leaves customers with very limited alternatives, often at significantly higher prices.
What disappointed me most was that neither an equivalent vehicle at the original price nor compensation for the additional costs I may now have to incur has been offered. Instead, responsibility was simply shifted to the supplier.
This experience has caused unnecessary stress, uncertainty and inconvenience just before my holiday. Based on my experience, I cannot recommend StressFreeCarRental.com or Nordic Travel Group and would advise other travellers to think carefully before relying on a confirmed reservation with either company.

Absolutely terrible...outrageous! Just before my holiday started, I was informed that my car rental was cancelled! I had to realize this and rent a new car, which of course cost more than twice as much! I had booked it two months in advance! Now their answer was...overbooking!! Stay away from this company...it could be a scam to get you to sign expensive new rental contracts...Flights and hotels are already booked, of course! How are you supposed to cancel hotels and flights in this situation?!
Scammers
The car we were provided with was 15 years old, had 270,000 km on the odometer, and was in terrible condition. Upon pickup, they forced us to buy extra insurance, which drastically increased the rental cost. On top of that, the pickup process was a nightmare: we waited about 30 minutes at the airport for the shuttle, and once we arrived at their office, we had to do the check-in via video call inside some sort of phone booth. The queue was endless.
Despite having already paid online, we wasted 3 hours just to get the car, only to spend a lot more money insuring a battered vehicle. In the end, we ended up spending €780 for a Dacia Duster with 270,000 km, covered in rust and in terrible condition.
Do not trust these scammers, avoid this rental company at all costs!
Car canceled a day before flight w/no explanation
We booked a car 7 months ahead. The day before the flight the company canceled the vehicle. When we called we got no explanation and no advice on how to fix the situation. The person on the phone could not care less. Because we booked seven airbnbs and many activities for 6 people we were panicking. Horrible company.

This companh rent me an old car scratched all over, without radio, shaking wheels, without full fuel. And in the end they charged 117eur for "deep cleaning". Scamed company renting crap cars

Terrible - DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY
This rental car company is truly terrible, use at your own risk. 1 Star is to good for this company, if possible I would give it 0 stars
When we booked a car we arranged to be picked up from the airport. We advised the car company that we would be travelling with an 11 month old baby and required a baby seat
When we landed we had to wait over 40 minutes at the airport to be picked up. Whenever we contacted the office highlighting that we had a baby with us they said the transport was on its way and would be with us shortly so we had no idea how long we would be waiting for, by the time the transport arrived it was 40 minutes from when we first contacted the company
When the transport arrived the bus could not fit our whole party plus luggage so only the drivers of the cars (we hired 2 cars) could be taken to collect the vehicles. The rest of the party including an 11 month old baby had to wait at the airport
It took over 2hrs from us first contacting the car rental company to us coming back with the cars to pick up the rest of our party
Due to the terrible way this rental company handles customers you have to sign for the vehicle before you have seen it. There is no way to highlight if the vehicle has been damaged or is not in the same state because you have already signed for it
We then drove from the airport to Reykjavik, less than 50 km's. When we got to Reykjavik the front passengers tire was completely flat, even worse than just being flat the thread of the tire was showing. In the UK this is illegal and the police would take the car off of the road if found in this condition
When I called the rental company they said the tire was perfect, there was no issue with the tire and that I had to pay to replace the tire. I said I would bring the car back and they said that I would have to pay extra for petrol and I would still have to pay to replace the tire
When I took the car to the garage, the mechanic said the tire was in a terrible condition, the thread should not be showing around the edge. The mechanic also explained the reason for the puncture was the car had completely the wrong tires on for the time of year. The car had snow tires when it wasnt snowing this resulted in one of snow studs being pushed into the tire causing the puncture. So the company is making customers pay for new equipment instead of putting the correct equipment on the cars
We now have 3 days driving round Iceland with an 11 month old baby in a car with the wrong tires and support from a company that is frankly horrible to deal with
If you are happy to:
- have your family and loved ones left at an airport for 2hrs
- be given a car in an illegal condition
- have a company that denies any responsibility for any issues you might have
Then this is the company for you
The service we have received so far has been truly terrible and we will not use this company or any of its affiliates in the future

Dont do it. Thats all i can say :). We payed so that they would meet us at the airport. They didnt come, and said that i never ordered even tho i showed them voucher etc. and that i have payed.
2 hours later they "suddenly" saw my registration which i made 2 months prior.
Then they send a car to pick us up. It wasnt fit for having our child in it, so they wanted us to split up in order for one to pick the car.
The car wasnt what we were promised, and we used around 4 hours in order to get our car and no apologies no nothing. (which pretty much where all the sunlight that was in Iceland that day)
Avoid this scam company
I rented a car from this company via a broker. Whilst there was a mention of charges for out of office hours, the times when this would apply were not defined. I was also not told about this when I rented the car at 6.50pm. They then emailed me after I had left to tell me they had forgot to tell me and had applied an auto €50 charge. This is a clear scam. Avoid this company like the plague. Also clear from other negative reviews that I’m not alone
Very sketchy practice… very upsetting experience :(
I usually do not write reviews… and even if I do they are positive. But this experience was so upsetting to me I believe the whole NTG company may be a scam. We were doing our check out and we were one of three groups doing this. Every group was charged an extra 3,500 dollars for something crazy. We were asked to take pictures of around the car and inside the car. Our personal experience was they are charging us for a damage to a part of the car that we were not even asked to take a picture of. They said we had wind damage to our door (even though we surprisingly experienced no heavy winds on our trip and were extra cautious regardless).
This car had 300,000 miles on it, the stereo would turn on and off every 5 min, the charger port fell into the interior of the car and we could not get it out.
On our 4th day we were broken down on the side of the road with every possible warning light that could be on flashing. After being on the phone with a representative for 5 min she said she would either talk to me through whatsapp or email. So she sent me an email which ensued a 4 hour wait for help in the middle of nowhere in Iceland. She eventually sent our broken car down this crazy dirt road that sent the car flying. They sent us to a repair shop where we had to wait another hour for the car to be looked at. They told us we were okay to drive but they said the car was in such disrepair just from being so old and used they were surprised it was a rental.
We missed an entire day of our trip and when we reached out to them about getting a new car because we were scared to drive they did not answer us.
The check in process was amazing and everyone was so sweet… but during checkout it was hostile. Every group around us was remaining quite calm given the circumstances but the customer representatives where being so rude telling people “who is the boss right now? Me” and telling people that they are “crazy or stupid” it was very upsetting.
It is a shame to think people save up so much money to travel to Iceland and this company is trying to scam these poor people out of more money :(
Don’t use this company
Don’t use this company! Their “insurance” is an absolute scam…it doesn’t cover doors, tires/wheels, windshield/windows, so we got charged $2000USD. Go to Avis!! If you book directly from their website, they give you bumper to bumper coverage woth a $200 deductible.

My friends and I had rent a car in this company , fully pre-paid for 525 Euros. As we arrived, they didn’t want to give us the car alleding they didn’t accept our brazilian digital drive license issued by our government and fully registered on the website! We had to rent another car from another company with no big issues! The thing is that we didn’t use their service and they did not want to refound our 525 Euros..

I DON'T RECOMMEND , CRUCIAL , AROGANCY DEPARTMENTS , total lack of professionalism . We have years of experience with different rental companies in different countries . NORDIC CAR RENTAL is the worst we have encountered so far. They keep us waiting at the airport for several hours (of course the transfer is charged at 50 euro which we were informed about beforehand). They make us wait for several hours until they kindly appear or not, insinuating that we called them (probably you?). You receive not what you order with an arrogant attitude of the staff. They mislead you by assuring you that you have received what you ordered online. Generally a total customer service failure. Their motto: ‘pay, don't demand and get lost’. To sum up, if you are looking for a rental company with an element of surprise (not to your advantage, of course), total disregard and you want to feel like in the PRL of the 80s, you have found the right company. There are many rental companies of a much higher standard nearby, such as : LOTUS, STAR CAR RENTAL or MYCAR RENTAL. I had no choice but to receive as a gift from my loved ones, unfortunately thanks to NORDIC CAR RENTAL our trip will remain a nightmare and a very bad memory. Therefore I definitely DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS COMPANY...!!!
Horrible service
Horrible service, had to wait hours to get my car, everything was rushed and no explanation of how to use the car was provided ( in this case, how to use the overnight heating system etc.).
When there was a problem with the car I had to call the emergency breakdown number 3 times before in the end someone from the shuttle service picked up, telling me to fix it myself, because they where busy.
When emailing them about this problem I got a useless response at first and have now been getting ignored for over a month.
Complete waste of money, there are much better rentals out there, please spend the 20 bucks extra at another shop, you will get better service.
Avoid this car hire company
Driver to and from the airport was surly and rude. Waiting times at the off airport site and for pick ups and drop offs were unacceptable - having arrived at 4am (as advised) we waited an hour to be taken to the airport. Their van seats a maximum of 8, so people have to wait at either end for the unfriendly driver to decide when he’s going to let you ride. Cars (Dacia Dusters) were dirty and in generally poor condition, and they were horrible to drive. We had to have one replaced because one of the doors did not lock, which meant our belongings were at risk. Other staff were helpful, Saulius delivered a replacement car after being unable to locate a repair centre for us to take the deficient car to. Go for an on-airport company if you can.
AVOID Renting Cars from Nordic Car Rental and other Local companies…
Local Icelandic car rental companies are in the business of running a well organized fraud by renting out broken cars and then claiming that you customer has damaged the car and charging thousands (Yes thousands of $$$) in damages. AVOID NORDIC CAR RENTAL at all the local car companies.
They dont know what is customer service, it took me 4 hours to rent the car. WORST CUSTOMER SERVICE, FRAUDELNT Renting Practices.

Long check in,wrong car to one ordered received “upgrade” to 5yr old 178k on clock nail,dints in it and bits of panel missing,air conditioning didn’t work,juddered in braking,engine management light came on after 1st day.
On returning they forensically poured over it and found a chip in windshield about size of a full stop…resulting in bill of €1700,£1567….
I was travelling alone with my 13 yr old son who became upset as he thought we would miss flight as shuttle bus left without us ,I payed under duress .
Customer next to me was charged $50 for being 2 ltr short of fuel
