Do not use OpenTable! Book with the restaurant direct. OpenTable charge £20 per person, if you give less than 48 hours notice of a cancellation!

Booked a table at Tapas revolution
Booked a table at Tapas revolution, paid £40 deposit and had to cancel due to unforeseen situation. Restaurant says they can’t refund as open table does not support refunds for cancellation. Frustrating as if I had booked directly at restaurant this won’t happen.
OpenTable Booking Scam…beware
I’ve been a user of OpenTable for a number of years and never had an issue…but today I was scammed as a direct result of a booking through OpenTable’s app - and worst of all, reading reports on here and online it’s a common occurrence, but one which OpenTable have consistently ‘assured’ people that their security protocols are solid and it’s not their fault.
The scam goes like this: -
- Booking made through OpenTable
- Phone call from the ‘restaurant’ first of all asking whether we were still attending that day, that it was still a table for four people and in our case congratulating us on our wedding anniversary…all of which were populated in the original al booking
- They then asked us to secure the booking a £10 deposit per person - details of credit card requested
- Almost immediately transactions were attempted using my card details - in line with other cases I’ve read online, at Argos…in my case £699 and another one for £449
- I then got a phone call from the ‘credit card company’ (which was also part of the scam) asking me to confirm whether these were genuine or not. They also asked for authentication numbers
- I then got another phone call from the ‘restaurant’ (you guessed it, this time the original scammer) saying my transaction had been unsuccessful and asking for an alternative card
Fortunately all transactions were unsuccessful, but when I went to the actual restaurant to tell them, they had said that their OpenTable account had been hacked and that a number of people had been in contact with exactly the same issue
So my problem is that this has happened for too often to too many people and yet nothing seems to have ever been done to address it - surely OpenTable have a duty of care to their customers?

Company is a fraud and shut be fined and shut. Open table provided us with a voucher to redeem at a substantial list of restaurants. After phoning so far 17 restaurants on their list of restaurants that supposedly accepts them not 1 accepts them. This a a fraud and a scam. Reported them to trading standard as voucher provided is not accepted anywhere. Fraud

Charged 14p by open table to confirm a booking by replying to a yes/no SMS ftom the business. Total scam will never reply again to a message from them

My daughter was charged for sending a text of "1" to confirm table. There was no warning this was a premium rate text and the restaurant confirmed separately as well.
Scams
Not supported our business they charge fee us unlimited, scams not good at all.
Scammers obtained my email immediately after creating an account
Only a few hours after I set up an account with OpenTable, I instantly started getting flooded with spam/scam emails. I hadn't used my email anywhere else at any time around then.
Opentable dining cheques
Opentable dining cheques: useless
Although Opentable claim that some restaurants will accept dining cheques I am yet to fine one. Bread Street Kitchen claimed on 27 December that they used to take them but as they are not refunded by Opentable they declined. This was very embarrassing and inconvenient. I have contacted Opentable on several occasions previously about this issue but they are unhelpful in the extreme.
Book direct with restaurant
booked twice this week, the first place phoned me back next day to say they never had a table available and when i contacted the second just to confirm it up they informed me they were not even open that day.
Lessons learned,never again.

I booked a table direct with The Ivey
I booked a table direct with The Ivey. They state that they take my privacy very seriously. So why am I getting scammed for premium rate texts from open Table who I have never heard of.
Premium Rate text charges - Beware!
I have used this service for a couple of years and have just seen that they charge a premium rate for a text they send you for confirmation of a table booking. There is nothing in this text to say that you will be charged a premium rate to respond. I will be complaining to Ofcom
Dining cheques are pointless and customer service do nothing
OpenTable go out of their way with excuses that the opt in list is ‘too long to send’ for the dining cheques but the truth is hardly any exist. I’ve tried so many restaurants and googled extensively and I’m not alone in my struggles (a basic google search will generate the same). To quote what others have already said ‘useless’, ‘pointless’.
For anyone trying to use the cheques, the only restaurants I can actually find any evidence of them accepting them in London are the following:
1. Hawksmoor - all branches
2. Buenos Aires - all branches
3. Gordon Ramsay - most branches but restrictions apply e.g. weekends
4. Le Vacherin
I tried emailing opentable but you’ll just keep getting a reply saying they’re ‘happy to help’ whilst sending the exclusion list over and over. The above list is all they could provide plus a restaurant that had shut down so clearly their own lists are not even up to date.
In summary, the dining cheques are a con and it should be clearer from the start that you won’t be able to use them at your favourite restaurants you’ve been going to to get the points.
Confirmation text scam
Like others, I was also being scammed by OpenTable in trying to get me to confirm a booking via a premium rate text. Luckily, my phone software picked up on that and alerted me!
I will certainly never book through OpenTable again and will avoid restaurants who use this very dodgy company!
I was also charged to confirm my table
I was also charged to confirm my table. There was absolutely no mention of a premium text charge either on their text message, on The Ivy’s website, nor on the link Open Table sent. What a waste of my time having to call 02 (who refunded me without question). I’ve only come across other people’s experiences because I Googled the number that 02 said to call to put a stop on future charges.
Charges you to confirm
Sent me a text telling me I had to press 1 to confirm so I did, then I was charged for the text
Simply a dirty Con

To charge for text confirmations without advising beforehand is just that.
Shame on the shysters who run this racket.
Will never book again

Excellent service from Cem for friend and I who popped in last week for drink and snack. First I was in reception and Fidan escorted us to bar and made sure we had a seat. She was very kind. Thank you guys for making our afternoon good!
Charge for confirming via text
I've just received my phone bill and was charged 13p from Open Table to text '1' to confirm my booking. This was no 67368. My provider is O2. I know its not much but could add up quickly if using Open Table to confirm booking.
