Very Disappointing Experience at…

Very Disappointing Experience at Pentagon Loughborough

I recently had a very disappointing experience at Pentagon Loughborough, and I feel it is important to share what happened so that other customers are aware.

On Thursday, we visited the dealership to discuss financing a car. A sales advisor, Kiam K McCue, approached us and said he had the perfect car for us. He explained that although the vehicle had already been registered by the dealership, it was essentially new and came with a finance rate of around 1.5%, compared with the standard rate of around 9%.

We were asked to pay a £250 deposit to proceed with the finance application, and our application was approved.

However, before completing the purchase, I noticed that the rear bumper of the car had been repainted. Because of this, I decided that I would rather choose another vehicle of the same model that the dealership also had in stock. This car had around 5,000 miles on it and better specifications, so we felt it was a better option for us.

When we returned and asked if we could change to the other vehicle, Kiam K McCue told us that finance would not be approved for the used vehicle and insisted that we had to proceed with the original car.

We were also told that if we decided not to proceed with the original vehicle, we would lose our £250 deposit.

At that point, we spoke to other members of staff, including a senior manager, to clarify the situation. After they reviewed everything, we were told that our £250 deposit could actually be refunded and, more importantly, that we were eligible for finance on the other vehicle as well.

This completely contradicted what we had previously been told and left us feeling very confused and disappointed.

I understand that finance approval can sometimes be complicated, but customers should receive clear, accurate and consistent information from the beginning. We should not have been made to feel that we had to purchase a particular vehicle or risk losing our deposit, only to later be told by management that this was not actually the case.

Unfortunately, the whole experience left a very bad impression. I believe customers should be given honest and transparent information and should never feel pressured into buying a particular car.

This is simply our personal experience, but I wanted to share it so that other customers are aware and make sure they fully understand the finance and deposit terms before proceeding.

Very disappointing experience overall.

Response to Pentagon Loughborough

I would like to clarify the main issue, because your response does not reflect what actually happened.

That morning, Kiam told us that we had to take the first vehicle because finance had barely accepted us for that particular car, and that if we did not proceed with it, we would lose our £250 deposit. To us, this clearly felt like pressure to force us into buying that specific vehicle.

When we questioned this and spoke to another manager, we were initially told that we could not get our deposit back because we had signed paperwork agreeing to this.

However, when we pointed out that the vehicle you were trying to push us towards had a repainted rear bumper, the situation suddenly changed. The attitude changed, and we were then told that our £250 deposit would be refunded.

Before actually refunding the deposit, we were then suddenly told that we were in fact accepted for finance on the other vehicle — the exact vehicle Kiam had previously told us we could not get finance for.

When we asked to see the paperwork we had supposedly signed regarding the deposit, we were told that the documents no longer existed.

So I think it is completely fair to ask: does this sound professional or consistent to you?

We were given different explanations by different members of staff, were told we would lose our deposit, were then told we could not have it back because of paperwork, and were finally told that we actually were accepted for the alternative vehicle that we had previously been told we could not finance.

This is exactly why we felt pressured and extremely disappointed. Your response may present the situation differently, but it does not change what actually happened to us at the dealership.

I am simply sharing our genuine experience, and I believe customers deserve clear, accurate and consistent information rather than being pressured into purchasing a particular vehicle.

Hi Laura, thank you for taking the time to share your feedback. We have carefully reviewed the circumstances surrounding your visit and would like to clarify a number of points raised in your review.

While we have been unable to locate a finance application in the name provided, we believe we have identified the customer and transaction you are referring to.
Firstly, the individual who made the finance application did not hold either a full or provisional driving licence. As a result, we would not have been able to proceed with a finance application in their name, regardless of which vehicle was being considered.

We would also like to clarify why the pre-registered vehicle was initially offered to you. The reason we proposed this particular vehicle was because it qualified for the significantly lower finance rate available at the time. Changing to the alternative used vehicle would have resulted in a substantially higher finance rate, as that vehicle did not qualify for the same offer. This was further complicated by the fact that the finance application for a new vehicle had already been declined by Chery.

We therefore understand why there may have been confusion around the finance options, but the intention was not to pressure you into purchasing a particular vehicle. We were attempting to offer the vehicle that provided access to the most favourable finance rate available under the circumstances.

We would also like to correct the impression given regarding your £250 deposit. At no point did the manager you dealt with refuse to return your deposit. Once you decided not to proceed, the deposit was refunded straight away. We are sorry if you were left with a different impression, but our records show that the deposit was returned without delay.

We appreciate that your experience did not meet the standard of service we aim to provide and are sorry that you left the dealership feeling disappointed. However, we hope this response provides some clarification around the finance eligibility, the reason the pre-registered vehicle was offered, and the handling of your deposit.
Kind regards,
Pentagon Loughborough

Don't bother with Kia Pentagon - Lincoln.

Tried getting a price of a brand new Kia PV5, but what a waste of time. Sales person didn't have a clue of what he was trying sell, such as what's included within the spec, and seemed to think the vehicle qualified for the government EV grant, whereas it does not. Suggest you go elsewhere.

AVOID PENTAGON CHILWELL SEAT CUPRA - RUDE ARGUMENTATIVE STAFF, POOR SERVICE

Unfortunately, I’ve had a really disappointing experience with Pentagon Motor Group.

I bought a Ford Kuga, SH22 YCX, from them in January 2026 for £21,995. I specifically bought it because it was four-wheel drive, which I require for work, and I rely on my car for my job.

Within a few months it developed a serious DPF fault. When I first reported it, I was told that waiting two months for a diagnostic “wasn’t bad”, that “cars go wrong”, and to continue driving despite the engine light being on and the car going into limp mode.

After a lot of arguing, they agreed to look at it within a week. However, they simply cleared the fault code and told me it would be fine. The fault returned within a week.

The car subsequently spent over two months at the garage in total, going back several times while they attempted to resolve the issue. After months of delays and still having no clear resolution from Pentagon, I felt I had no other option but to return the car.

Pentagon initially tried to deduct around £3,000 from my refund. After a lot of arguing, I managed to get this reduced to around £1,800, which still left me considerably out of pocket.

What makes this even more frustrating is that I’ve now seen the same car advertised by Pentagon for £21,144, having supposedly been “fixed”. Based on what I received back, it appears they could make around £1,000 from me returning the car.

I completely understand that cars can go wrong, but it’s how the situation is handled that matters. I felt let down by the delays, communication and ultimately the way my refund was dealt with.

I bought this car because I needed a reliable four-wheel-drive vehicle for work. Instead, months of problems and delays left me without a suitable car and eventually forced me to give it back.

After this experience, I wouldn’t personally buy another car from Pentagon let alone SH22 YCX.

Avoid - dishonest and con artists

Refused to honour 12 month warranty and refusing to communicate with us or with seat, their official partner. All used Seat cars are sold with an approved used 12 month free warranty, as per their legal contract. They are refusing to honour this on a car we brought 10 months ago on a 2021 Seat Ateca that has failed its MOT due to a major electrical fault (that we suspect has been sold to us with the issue). They are now not communicating with us, or seat themselves. Avoid them - they will scam you and sell you faulty cars and then refuse to honour legal contracts: we are now having to go through the small claims court to sue them for the cost of repair at an independent garage.
This is the CHILLWELL branch.

Booked to have a test drive of one of their used vehicle the night before and arranged a viewing time. Upon arrival was met with confusion by a sales member who didn’t know what was going on. We were then informed the car was already reserved so could no longer test drive this vehicle. No phone call to inform us of this update to save us an hours and half travel. Attitude of the sale person was terrible, no apology. A complete waste of time and lack of respect. Will never buy a car through this garage

Paid a holding deposit for a Mercedes V- Class on 30th July. Pentagon phoned me the same day to ask when I could come to view the vehicle and we agreed on Saturday 1st August at 11am. We have just travelled over an hour to the dealer to be told that the car had been sold. How on earth do you sell a car that another customer had paid a deposit on? Their system said someone had called me to inform me the car had been sold, however I showed them my phone call history and it proved they hadn't called me. Absolutely shocking behaviour.

AVOID this garage at all costs

AVOID this garage at all costs — unprofessional, careless, and dangerous.

After breaking down, we were told we needed a new engine and paid £7,000 for the work. What followed was over a year of stress, repeated breakdowns, and mounting costs — all caused by work that should never have left the workshop. In the end, we technically had to have two engines fitted by them — because, according to the garage, the first one, supposedly a brand new engine from Peugeot, failed. Make of that what you will.

We broke down several times after the first "new" engine was fitted. Each time, we were refused a courtesy car on the absurd grounds that we hadn't given two weeks' notice — leaving us stranded, repeatedly, without a vehicle, and without so much as an apology. The attitude throughout was lax and dismissive; at no point would anyone simply hold their hands up and admit mistakes had been made. Instead, we were pressured into paying for additional parts, including a battery and roller kit to fix issues that had never existed before their work.

The quality of the workmanship was so poor that the AA patrolman who attended one of our breakdowns openly questioned whether a new engine had been fitted at all. At one point the engine coolant was found to be completely empty — which could have destroyed the engine or caused a serious incident on the road. It was only after we escalated to the main manager that a replacement engine was finally arranged, along with the courtesy car we should have been given from the start.

Even then, the failings continued. Our vehicle was returned with scratches on the front and half a tank of fuel missing (eventually resolved). The air conditioning had not been re-gassed and had to be repaired afterwards at further cost to us. Worse still, we later discovered that engine mount bolts had been cross-threaded — and some were missing entirely — and that the drive shaft had not been fitted properly and was resting on the subframe. These are not cosmetic oversights; they are serious safety failures. The car was returned to us in an unsafe condition, and we were left to pay yet again to put right what they had botched.

Later on, the turbo failed as well — and by that point we had so little faith in this garage that we paid to have it repaired elsewhere.

To top it off, it took over a year of persistent chasing on our part just to receive the engine warranty paperwork.

When you're paying £125 + VAT per hour for labour at a main dealer garage, you expect competence, honesty, and accountability. We received none of the three. Frankly, people who leave a vehicle in that state shouldn't be allowed anywhere near one. Avoid.

I bought a brand new Kia Picanto GT S…

I bought a brand new Kia Picanto GT S line off this lot in Sept last year.
After about 600 miles the clutch burned out leaving me stranded 60 miles from home in a remote area of N Lincs. When I finally got it back to them the first reaction was " I'm thinking this might be down to you ". That was the line they held to as clutches are not included in the warranty and It cost me nearly £900 to get a new one fitted.
To put it in context I have owned manual transmission cars for over 40 years continuously and must have driven a minimum of 200k miles and never had any clutch trouble. I had also traded in a Hyundai i10 with 17k miles on the clock and I bet they sold that on without changing the clutch.
I did about 2000 miles with the new clutch but I got so disturbed by the thought of these people servicing it ( they appear to be the only Kia dealer in Sheffield ) that I traded in what was by then a perfectly decent car for something else. Irrational no doubt but I was losing sleep. I thought of taking them to court but no doubt they would have sworn the original clutch was perfect. I shall not be buying another Kia unless there is a change of dealership.

Pentagon is a huge disappointment

Pentagon is a huge disappointment. They have completely ruined our experience with SEAT and made us lose confidence in the brand.

We bought our car in 2023, and just five months later we had to replace the battery, which we had to pay for ourselves. Since then, we've taken the car to Pentagon 3–4 times for servicing. On one occasion, the engine warning light came on just two weeks after a service, and we ended up taking it to a different SEAT dealership to get the issue fixed.

Most recently, the car came back from Pentagon about a month ago. For the past two weeks, we've been hearing strange noises from the car. It honestly feels as though the service wasn't done properly or something was missed. To make matters worse, the earliest appointment they can offer us is in September.

If we ever buy another SEAT, one thing is certain: it will definitely not be from Pentagon.

Pentagon Peugeot Burton on Trent

Pentagon Peugeot Burton on Trent
Shocking! A dealership that doesn’t want to sell cars.
First visit - 3 new cars showing immediately available on the website, checked with agent for on the phone that they were in stock/available before travelling. On arrival greeted by the salesman who showed us around the three cars, sat down to do the paperwork only to be told that all three were no longer available for sale on their system.
Second visit - found a vehicle online, called to check availability (mentioned the disappointing previous experience, to avoid a repeat). Salesman showed us around the vehicle, test drive experience was fine. An hour into the visit we again sat down to discuss figures only to be told that the advertised price (still live on the dealership website 97N014501) was no longer accurate and that the actual sale price had increased by over 4k (due to offers being withdrawn).
Two wasted trips, poor customer service, this is no way to run a business.

A lucky escape

No-one in the sales team answering the phone the two times I tried to call was my first warning sign. I nevertheless drove two hours to Lincoln to view a pre-registered car, liked it, and the next day sold my old car and arranged a car loan. Then I noticed the feedback - 2.5 for Pentagon Lincoln on Trustpilot and a shocking 60% of the reviews are 1*. Given that dire feedback and that I would be totally exposed living two hours' drive away if there were anything wrong with the car, I asked the salesman how he could put my mind at rest. I suggested e.g. have a new car salesman go through all the features with me to check everything works, a 7-day money-back guarantee, or explain how they would help if I found later e.g. a manual were missing when I can't even get through on the phone. He didn't call me back that day to take the deposit, then the next day emailed me to effectively say no to all of those. Pentagon Lincoln are not serious about leaving their customers happy. A lucky escape.
