Payout refused on genuine claim

They refused a payout on a genuine claim.

An unspecificed item was under the limit. I proved purchased and ownership but the claim was refused and not honoured. I was told my paperwork was in order but claim refused as the item was newer than the policy.
This is a shocking and unenforceable clause that seems to have been added after I signed up, if it was ever there.
The practise is ethically dubious at best. I didn't challnge it fearing I would find a black mark against my name on their internal Insurers databases, and have future policies refused.

EDIT: They're now asking Truspilot to get me to release more personal detail so they can use it as an excuse to take my negative review offline. Be aware, companies are now actively managing their reputation and harassing journalists who are making reviews in good faith. I fully expect them to ask for this negative review to be taken down because it's not 5* and shows them for turning down insured claims for bogus reasons.

2nd EDIT: They replied and you can see what they used to refuse a claim on UNSPECIFIED ITEMS which they they decided was SPECIFIED.
It's a contradictory clause they clearly use to knock back any claim they don't like the look of. Bad faith.

3rd Edit: they're now telling LIES about an item I have full OWNERSHIP of before, during, and after the claim.
Photoguard actively make false accusations against a claimant in public with no supporting evidence. I would suggest NO ONE uses their service as they make defamatory statements against negative reviewers making truthful reviews.

Forty people now have read this, which is lost revenue into thousands of pounds for them.

Would you buy insurance from a company who attacks a Chartered journalist making an honest claim in good faith?

Thanks for your taking the time to leave a review.

In your specific case you have taken out a policy for a set amount of photography equipment and have been charged a premium in relation to that.

You have subsequently purchased an item (lens), after taking out the policy, and have not updated your cover to include this item as part of your policy as would be normal practice through an MTA (mid term adjustment) as many of our customers do when buying additional equipment or having sold part of their equipment that was part of their original policy cover.

We would encourage you to challenge the claim if you believe it to have been unfairly declined. We do not operate an internal insurers database that a "black mark" could be added to in order to refuse cover so do not let this stop you from progressing any action.

The financial ombudsmen details will have been provided to you by the claims team but you can find full details of how to make a complaint, or reach out to the ombudsmen here:

With regards to your first edit - The reason for asking for additional information in a TP review is to make sure that we are talking to the correct customer and have the full details of the situation. As you will see from our reviews, we very much don't push to remove valid reviews, otherwise we would be 5* rated, but instead work with customers to understand the challenge and, if valid, work to rectify.

With regards to your second edit - as you didn't own the item you are looking to make a claim for when you took out the policy to cover your equipment the lens in question was therefore not included in your policy cover when you purchased the policy. This position has not changed as you never updated your cover to include this item, paying the additional premium for the additional cover required. It is not an accessory or an unspecified item.

Very polite and identified my requirements with ease and then covered the way the insurance works without being too stressful over the matter. The fact I changed the insurance a few days later didnt seem top bother them as long as I had the cover I required going forward. A+++++

Would definitely use them again!

I found them a very easy company to deal with. I was having a lens on trial from Fujifilm and needed to have quick cover. The process was fast, easy and painless and the rates were great. Couldn't better the products or customer service. Would certainly use them again!

Took six days to complete the claim. I was asked repeatedly on separate days about the circumstances of the claim. I'd immediately reply to an email and then have to wait 24 hours before I got a reply.

Hi Roger

We are sorry to hear that you are unhappy that it has taken 6 days to settle your claim.

Looking at the details on file it appears you started the process on the 2nd January and it was paid out on the 9th January.

The intervening time included ratification of the location of the incident, to place you there, and ownership of the item plus three days for Wex to provide the quote for a replacement lens.

Your feedback has been passed through to the claims team.

We are glad that your claim has been settled and hope that you are happy with the outcome.

Thanks
