I was using Planetromeo for about 15 years. The development is typical and nothing surprising. First they started to gradually paywall features, then increase the prices. Then as the mobile version was being focused on, with far less features for the same prices, they stopped developing the classic version (to replace it with the mobile clone for web eventually). Now, why should anyone pay for PLUS with less features than before? There is Grindr, Scruff, etc which have better features for free. How long does Planetromeo hope to rely on their large user base which have been there for longer than a decade?

I'm developing an online community basically to replace Planetromeo Classic. It will have roughly the same set of features and a donation-based financing plan. The progress of the site will only be limited by the sum of donations. If anyone is thinking about leaving Planetromeo they are welcome to join.

This used to be a great site with many useful search and filter options and well presented search results
Then someone thought it would be more profitable to become a grindr-clone, foregoing all the features that made it better, to become a worse version.
It was bearable while "classic" was still an option, but with the discontinuation there's really nothing left that makes them stand out in the sea of bad dating sites.

I wish there was an option to give the new version of PlanetRomeo a ZERO or SUBZERO star. Truth be told, same shis is most new updated websites whether it is airlines, Banks or similar sites such as Adam4adam in the US. Total trash. Same thing with Hunqz.com. I Have been with Romeo for 14 years and now i rarely sign in as i get turned off by the awful interface. Wha used to be an easy task now is now a time wasting chore. The programmer who commented here in mid December is 100 % right. Bye Romeo !

The new site of PlanetRomeo has not the same, practical and good customizable features, like the old, classic version! First the UNCUT Android app was totally ruined, now the website. Brilliant!

I cannot find my blocklist any longer

They keep taking features away. It was so much easier with everything only 2 clicks away, now we have multiple overlays that cannot be seen with closing the overlay on top. Ill conceived and poorly designed and written. As an ex systems programmer this would never have got passed by me, I would have rejected and sent it back to the team to think about it from scratch, in the meantime the classic system would have remained in place.

Will not be renewing my Plus and will most certainly not pay for this "new" site - it's a crock of sh.. impossible to navigate, with none of the features to help one find with a click what one wanted.
And you don't give a damn either about your loyal paying customers who found the classic planetromeo site easy to navigate and kept you in business all these years.
I can only say I really feel as if I've been taken for a ride as do many thousands of your soon to be ex-customers.

Planetromeo now simply sucks :(

Had only a couple of dates since the transition from Classic Romeo to the new interface. Not all profiles can be found (I thoroughly compared Classic Romeo and Planetromeo, Planetromeo sucks!). Safe sex "never" was taken away, BB searches are almost impossible now. Shame on you!

The new page is a mistake

The new page is a mistake! users' request was ignored, but they don't care! Long ago they were interested in what they wanted!
There needs to be a change in leadership, because their attitude towards users has been quite anti-democratic in recent years!

It used to be a community site where friendship was about! Today, it has become a fast sex search site.

Lately, everything has gone wrong, development is awful! For mobile use only.

Who and how the site is used have not been properly evaluated!
Not everyone uses it on the latest machines and the fastest internet. This is when someone is surrounded by bad counselors!

We should go back to basics and reassess it all! Who, how, how to use it, until it's too late. That platform didn't work for windows, either here.

The company should reassess and reposition itself! It must be more valuable for a company to retain users! More valuable to the old user than to the daily registrants!

I'm afraid it's going to find deaf ears in the ivory tower!

I've been a member for over 15 years, but if the new version stays, I'll delete myself and my groups!

Good luck for everyone!

What a waste!

So much functionality flushed down the toilet when they chose to abandon the Classic view! What a waste!

If at least the PlanetRomeo team had the balls to list all the features they have dropped and give an explanation for each. Be transparent!

It's sad to think that all the features exist in the backend of the platform and they're just being dropped.

Also very sad is the clear path towards making Romeo a smartphone app with very limited support for the web version.

After almost 20 years using Romeo, I've stopped recommending Romeo.

Old version so much better

Old version had very good search capabilities, very nice overview and structure. New one does not have this... shame to see another site go down hill!! Why change a winning team...

New page works slowly

New page works slowly, much less profiles visible as before. Possibly people do not use it anymore. Unfortunatly grindr is better now and more effective. Petty, that romeo is going down.

killed a vital world

once upon a time... gayromeo used to be a fully fletched community portal with all kind if functionality. now they changed to a new app. not even an advanced search is included (no logic AND searches, no possibility to sorr results vy dustance etc). no ckubs anymore. community driven clubs have been shut off. it's just a sex platform with mediocre possibilities. this is a great example how to destroy a famous brand.

New version Sucks

The new version Sucks, Takes ages to load, Not too sure why they removed the old version. Have no clue which brainy genius approved the project. No testing done

Google speed test for mobile tells us how crappy the website functionality is.

Disappointed longtime user

I am a very longtime user, > 10 years, and I'm a software developer (30 yrs, PC / client / host side).
I'll comment on their (new) website, on their development process, and their changing user base.

I joined as iOs beta tester in 2013, around 2015 they started their main site 'BETA' relaunch. I was very active first on commenting and reporting.
My experience with their 'beta center' (user response site) is, they did not really respond to issues, in general I felt a stiff upper lip. They always knew better, simply declined feature requests or esp. discussions about the best UI design.
I also tried writing detailed 'user stories', or 'before/after' comparisons on features... explaining how a power user used the site... hoping developers would respond.

Even more, it was full of spam as nobody cared about who wrote stupid ads.
THEY HAVE NO PROFESSIONAL USER RESPONSE MANAGEMENT.

Then they got their mobile apps out and seems they decided on doing a 1:1 copy on browser.
During the years, several key positions on their team changed (seeking scrum masters, POs, and several UX personnel)... not good.

Now, everything is a single page app, everything runs serial (profiles and messages placed over on top of previous layer).
The old site supported opening many tabs or pop ups, as you liked. I always opened about 10 tabs with guys or old friends I contacted.
Or, on travel in a new city it was good for peeking around a bit in parallel.
This behaviour has all gone.
Now it is all confusing overlays, on my laptop I dont see as much as did before, and I have to switch between message-answering or profile-searching.

Their general UI decision is the major problem.
This design forces user to act as THEY want. Not the flexible way as before.
I have to search where the 'X' is for closing an overlay. I dont understand their UI logic.

With the mobile apps, I also noted that there are millions of new, short lived profiles come and go. This is completely un-interesting. I avoid all new profiles, as most have 0 pics and almost no text written, and they're gone next week. I want 'quality' users, but those decrease.

I'm curious about their user base (real regular users, or paying users, per hour).
I'm curious about average active lifetime of today's user profiles. All short lived?

Current users seem to be short-lived, GRINDR like zombies.
They mostly just ask for my quick pics. It's become a site for quick sex.
That was such a wonderful community site.
Now its all gone, all messed up. Bye, gayromeo.
