LAVENDER FRAGRANCE AKA PLASTIC !!

My local Pound Stretcher trades as "Bargain Buys".I remember the actual £ Stretcher selling good quality stuff. Went into BB's on Saturday and bought a roll of fragranced bin bags. They were supposed to have a lavender fragrance but there was nothing not even faintly. The only smell was that of plastic.Won't be buying again.

Needless to say bags were made in PRC and imported by PS IMPORTS LTD,LEICESTER.
It's not like they were pennies at £3 for 50 thin bags which will tear easily the least you expect was for the stated fragrance.

Poundstretchers appalling experience

Contacted Poundstretchers online to advise them of a product (Strawberry flavour triangle ice pops) that had an extremely bad smell and taste (ie similar to car filler). Refused to allow me a refund or exchange. I have sent numerous messages that get left unanswered. Absolutely horrendous customer service. The worst I have experienced. I explained that I am elderly and disabled and the cost of living crisis. I know the products in total only cost £3 but that is a lot of money to me. I even advised them that I still have 1 full box and more than half a box left that I can take back to the store as proof. I will never step in that shop ever again.

No cashiers available...

Arrived at the checkouts with a few items in hand with my 3yr old son, so i wanted to pay for my items quick and leave. There were a few customers in front of me but no cashier in sight, i waited for a couple of minutes before deciding to leave down my items and leave for the B&M next door. Rediculous that they can't even serve their customers.

Pallion Retail Store

Today whilst visiting Pallion Retail Centre in Sunderland I came across one of your stores ( Poundstretcher & Pet Hut, Pallion Centre, Woodbine Terrace, Sunderland, SR4 6TY) which store front was literally covered in huge notices advertising either 50% / 20% off everything in store!!!!. Regrettably I should not have even entered as I was completely taken aback by the actual false advertising which was displayed outside.
Walking around the store initially I was surprised, that apart from myself there was 1 other shopper in the whole store and secondly most of the shelves where either empty or had been overfilled with excess inappropriate stock.
My main issue of disgust was the actual prices that were being charged! I compared quite a lot of items that are being sold in other shops such as Home Bargains & B&M etc and even though their prices are still considerably less, I was shocked to notice that even though you had priced items to reflect the so called 50%/20% discount, they were still higher than other shops hence false advertising as you had already inflated the actual price before adding the discount!!!!.
No the wonder there was only 2 of us in the shop and question how the shop remains open because both myself and the other shopper both walked out of your store WITHOUT buying anything

YOUR BEING RIPPED OFF!

750ml bottle of white spirit £7 in pound stretcher Market Deeping, up the road to Tesco £2.50 for very same sized bottle. This is more than 100% mark up! I call this blatantly ripping the customer off!

Watch out pound stretcher Aldi is coming and possibly Lidl. With these mark ups people will look elsewhere.

Reduced item

I went into the shop just to have a look around and ended up buying a few things. One thing I bought the original price was £2.80 but they had reduced it to £1.40, but when I came to the till he still charged me the full price which I didn't notice until I was far gone from there. It's something that's really annoys me because it happens far too often in shops now. They have to start checking their prices.

Helpless and uncomfortable

Helpless and uncomfortable

Date: 28 May 23
First transaction of £22.05 is voided.
Store manager requested second payment. We paid £22.05.
But I was uncomfortable on the till system, I requested a refund.
Date: 29 May 23
Refund of £22.05 is received
Date: 31 May 23
Payment of £22.05 was taken again. It is absolutely wrong, I am at home on 31 May 2023 at 9.05am

When I went to the store, the manager kept on saying they could do nothing. Asked me to call customer service. But no one answer the phone. I emailed them, but no one replies.

They checked 31 May transactions. They cannot find anything.

I feel myself to be bounced inand out.

Who can help on this?

Batteries lifeless! Do not buy!

I usually love Poundstretcher but brought some Hyundai cr2032 batteries and I tried 4 out of the 6 to find none of them work! I know cheaper batteries don’t last as long but these have no life in them at all! Would return but not worth the petrol!

Miss pricing

Went to the Pontardawe store to purchase 3 packs of bamboo fencing. On the shelf it clearly stated £15 per pack. When I got to the till and the assistant scanned them she said it was £60. When I told her what the label said, she went to get it and said oh yes it says £15 and said she would query it with her manager. When she came back she informed me that the manager said if they scan at £20 then £20 it is and that head office would say it’s human error that it was wrongly priced. Needless to say I left them there. When I got home I send an email to customer services and a week later I’ve had no response. What they are doing is actually illegal according to the trading standards.. well done poundstretcher you’ve lost yourselves another customer! Home bargains here we come as I can’t tolerate being ripped off!!

Terrible business structure, poorly trained staff

The store is okay, with a wide range of basic household products, but the business structure and staff training are subpar.

I bought a few things from them in March, after paying I was told that the payment wasn't approved (even though their machine said 'approved'), of course I was debited. The store manager reassured me that it'll be refunded, otherwise they will refund my money. He gave me the receipts of the void transaction as evidence.

Four days later, I noticed (on my bank app) that the transaction had gone through and that I won't be getting a refund. So I called the store and was told that I will have to come tap the card I paid with to get my refund. I told them that might take a while - since I don't live close to the store - and I was given to the impression that it was alright.

When I went to the store a month later, I was made to feel like a thief. Firstly, they asked for all kinds of proof. I showed them the transaction receipt (including the merchants copy I was given), but it wasn't enough. I showed them my bank app where I was debited twice and that both transactions had gone through, this wasn't enough either. They wanted my bank statement to ensure I was debited twice and not refunded, but of course it was still no proof! Imagine how I felt!

Next I was told 'this was ages ago why didn't you come all this while?' I explained that I'd called up and was given the impression that i can come when it'sconvenient for me. Guess what I was asked "who did you speak with and who attended to you on the day you bought the things?" Like I'm supposed to know who I spoke with or who served me on the day. Does anyone go to buy things at a store and asks the cashier "what's your name love?"... I told them I didn't know their names. They said that I was misinformed by those two, that this wasn't 'how they did things'.

The conversation went on and on for nearly one hour. At some point I had to show them my call log as evidence that I actually called ... At this point it wasn't about getting my money back, but proving that I wasn't lying.

Please note that all these happened around the till - in full view of other customers paying and people walking outside the store, and I mean many people because I was there for a while.

In the end I was told that they couldn't do anything about it because their manager was not in, and that I had to come back the next day. I told them I would not be coming back, I requested an email as proof of my conversation with them and walked out of there. I took these to my bank and got my money back the next day.

I thought it's only fair to warn prospective buyers what hassle you have to go through if you ever had any problems with them. Firstly, you'll be treated like a criminal, secondly, they won't be able to sort out your problem without their manager, finally, this will be done in the full view of the world.

My feedback to them was that their staff need re-training on store policies and how to handle complaints.
