It's friendly and there is enough equipment about to share with the number of people who are there when I go. ( 09.30 weekdays)

Pure Gym equipment and machines are top draw. It’s always clean and a great atmosphere. Staff are friendly and helpful. The app service is good and the FB messaging service is brilliant for any queries. Also the web page is the first place to go if you can’t navigate the app. It’s a 5 Star gym all round. RR

Terrible behaviour to payments. Please be careful with your payments, and fyi paypal is easier to get a refund but not impossible with your bank.
I used puregym since a new store opened, literally since day 1 of opening and kept my gym membership active after being made redundandent in february this year. The gym really helped my mental health while going through this and as I had vitality with my ex employer, I had a discounted membership. This had been fine for months and with no prior warning, they have upped my payments 3 times the orginal price. From £15.99 to £46 passing the blame onto vitality, saying they should have notified me, not pure gym. Despite pure gym being the company who takes my money and spams my emails for everything else.
Asked for a full refund, to be told no. As some of the payment is also back payment from the previous month, as they have randomly decided when my membership went up.

I've been a member now since January 2026, I love how spacious the gym is, your never waiting for equipment and staff are very friendly. I've also got a PT martin timmins at Pontefract branch who is really knowledgeable on nutrition, training, physio, and is really good in helping me achieve my end goal, I love that it is open 24 hours so you can get there at any time🙂

Helps both physically & mentally
Instructors are all so friendly and push you to perform at your best but don’t go too far that stops the enjoyment!
Clean and welcoming environment

Puregym Teesside Park - Easy to get to, free parking, lots of equipment, big space so not working out on top of each other. Clean and tidy, fee is very reasonable, not intimidating going alone, would highly recommend.

Couldn't access the gym tonight, all fuelled up with nowhere to go. My app failed to load up,
I never received an email back regarding my pin. I work shifts, this isn't suitable for me and my lifestyle. Need 24 support.

Bathrooms are out of order multiple times a month - no working showers or toilets, signs on toilet doors say to go to macdonalds instead

I am writing this review to share my experience with PureGym’s cancellation process, direct debit handling, and refusal to refund a payment that I consider to have been taken incorrectly.
I contacted PureGym by email five days before my direct debit was due, making clear that I wanted to cancel my membership. Despite this, the direct debit was not cancelled, and I was still charged. I was later told that I would not be refunded, even though I had contacted PureGym before the payment was taken and had made my cancellation request in advance.
This has been particularly frustrating because my account had also been frozen. Instead of the cancellation being processed, I was charged the full monthly membership fee, plus the freezing fee on top. The total amount taken was £39.99, despite the fact that I had asked to cancel altogether five days before the direct debit was due.
In my view, this meant I was charged for a service I had not intended to continue using and had already taken steps to cancel. The issue was not simply that a payment was taken; it was that I had already notified PureGym in advance, the direct debit was not cancelled, and I was then told I would not receive a refund.
As PureGym did not resolve the matter, I had to raise a dispute with Barclays. I provided screenshots and evidence showing that I had contacted PureGym before the payment was due. Barclays reviewed the evidence and closed the claim in my favour.
This experience has left me with no confidence in PureGym’s cancellation process. In my case, the process was not straightforward, the direct debit was not stopped after I requested cancellation, and I had to involve my bank to recover money that should not have been taken in the first place.
I consider this unacceptable customer service. Customers should not have to dispute direct debits with their bank after providing notice of cancellation. A cancellation process should be clear, reliable, and fair, particularly where direct debit payments are involved.
Based on this experience, I will not use PureGym again. I would also advise others to be very cautious when cancelling, to keep screenshots of all communication, and to monitor their bank account carefully. In my case, the cancellation request was made in advance, yet I was still charged £39.99 and refused a refund until Barclays resolved the dispute in my favour.
