I do not like the timed auction and various fees
I do not like the timed auction. I had to bid on multiple gates to try and get at least one gate because there is this new feature that extends the time. so at one point I was in the bid for 4 gates. I ended up winning 2. Okay I'm cool with that I'll just sell one. Well when I get my invoice my bill is 457.81 way more than what I anticipated. Taxes + 80-90 transaction fees per item and taxes on the transaction fees. How am I going to sell an item for more than it can be purchased cheaper anywhere else? Plus I was told from office personnel I had 30 days to get items. I received an email I had 7 days.
IRON CLAD ASSURANCE
IRON CLAD ASSURANCE? BEWARE! i bought a vehicle from them whose description did not include bad transmission. which it had. they also have a $750.00 deductible. where this is written i have no idea. anyway i'm screwed and warning you. read everything about your vehicle and cross your fingers if you don,t have a law degree.
Spam email
I have been trying for over a year to get Ritchie Bros to take me OFF their spam email lists.
Give me my refund!!!
I purchased a commercial lawn mower from ironplanet.com on May 5, 2021.
Iron Planet is a part of the Ritchie Bros group of commercial equipment auctions.
My transportation company showed up on the same afternoon to transport my purchase from Florida to Wisconsin. I received a call from the dispatcher that the mower was not at the property and he had been informed that the item had been sold in April almost a month previous.
The $2665.79 purchase price with all the various fees and surcharges cleared my credit card the very next day. There were extra expenses associated with the transportation because the driver made a special out-of-the-way trip and spent 3 hours at the auction yard while they tried to find the item and sort out what they were going to do.
I called immediately to get the item refunded. I called again 2 weeks later and they said it would 7-10 business days. It had already been 10 business days. I called again after 3 weeks to get refunded and they said they were waiting for my dispatchers invoice because they promised to pay their extra fees that had accrued by them selling the item I had purchased.
What does the dispatchers invoice have to do with the $2665.79 that is sitting on my credit card accruing interest? Today is May 26 and I am still waiting for my refund.
But wait.......
There's more.......
I purchased a different commercial lawn mower and the picture on the auction shows that it has a battery. However when I received the mower it was missing the battery. Unfortunately, the battery is a certain size and cost more than $106 to replace. It also appears that the tires that were on the mower that I purchased were switched out because the ones I got were very worn compared to the ones in the picture.
So on top of selling items more than once to different buyers and not refunding money when items are not available, it appears that they also scavenge parts off of already sold units.
This experience has been extremely disappointing and I offer this report to save others from having a similar frustrating experience.
Misrepresentation of ritchie contract
I contacted Ritchie Bros on approximately June 29/2020 to list and hold on line auction for my real estate and equipment. Jerry Hodge understood my request. Bryan Watson was offended that I had negotiated a 5% lessor commision previously on items sold. He proceeded to say that the equipment if not delivered to Nisku, then it would be marketed through a Iron planet site in California. It was not agreed on or discussed at all. All Emails from Bryan Watson refer to Ritchie Bros and not Iron Planet. I had negotiated a lessor commision with Ritchie Bros and Bryan decided to list my equipment with Iron Planet and additional listing fees. Why would I negotiate lessor commision and agree to additional listing fees through Iron Planet. My site is in Ft. Saskatchewan, Alberta, what sense is there in Auctioning from a California Site. As a result of this I had a tremendous loss. I had an idependent appraiser do an evaluation on all equipment sold through the California site which resulted in a loss of 1,138110.00 I Contacted Ritchie Bros with confidence and trust, not knowing I would be mislead and manipulated. I have worked many long years to achieve all this equipment, and to have it sold for less than one half of its value, Due to a Personality issue with Bryan Watson. I will prove through polygraph testing for my wife and I. I was a faithful Ritchie customer for thirty years. How can we correct this.
ElectronicTools Left Out in the Rain
I just bought some new electronic tools from Ritchie Bros. auction and the picture showed the tools indoors in a protected area and outdoors on a skid. When I took delivery days later the boxes where soaking wet and frozen because they had been left outside for days in the rain and snow. About a gallon of water came out of the boxes when they thawed after bringing them home. Tools were rusted and because they function when I bought them they wouldn't do anything. Water and electrical motors equal shortened tool life. Very disappointed with their response. The description should advise that item were stored outdoors and exposed to the elements which may damage or shorted tool life. I would have never bid on this had I known. I would rather have bought a well maintained used tool then a new one left outdoors. A company with this much experience as auctioneers and this much income should buy a large shelter and use it...... Don't buy anything from them that weather will damage until they fix this issue. I wonder if any of the management at Ritchie Bros. keep their tools upside. Common sense seams to be lacking here.
Exorbitant fees, poor customer service availability
Exorbitant fees not clearly disclosed before the auction. Very long wait times when on the phone, if you can get through at all. The email address that they give to contact them doesn't accept incoming email.
Unsafe Site
As soon as I used my credit card to transfer funds on this site it got swarmed with fraudulent online purchases. Beware people, this company has a major security breach and they couldn't care less.
Upper management is GARBAGE
Upper management is GARBAGE. They take full advantage of their workers. They work them to death and never give enough time off. They force them to travel (against their will) for weeks at a time. Completely disgusting and disrespectful.
CONSUMER BEWARE
CONSUMER BEWARE. They misused our social security numbers to do unauthorized credit pulls and then refused to correct it. Months of going back and forth and it appears the only way to get their attention will be to hit them in the pocket book with legal action.
They are not worth dealing with if you have any other options at all.
Dishonest company and Iron Clad is a…
Dishonest company and Iron Clad is a joke. They will not be honest on their inspection of equipment, most lipstick on a pig company ever. Time for Class Action Law Suit.
Totally irresponsible
Totally irresponsible. Absolutely no regard for the safety of people using the roads in this country. Ritchie Brothers offers a "service" to their customers who need to move equipment purchased at one of their auctions. They exclusively recommend a company that they are in business with to find carriers to transport items for customers. Anyone interested in or having purchased equipment can go to the RB website where they provide a price estimate to move your items. They ask if you would like to post your shipment in order to have carriers send quotes. If you agree the link will take you to the "post your shipment" page on the Uship.ca website where your ad will be seen by potential carriers. It all seems very easy and convenient and after all Uship is endorsed by RB so what could go wrong. These carriers that will be giving you quotes may not be what would expect but you have seen no warnings or disclaimers from RB. What you won't know is that ANYONE with a cell phone and email is qualified to be a transport service provider through Uship. No driver's license, insurance, experience or training, operating authority or safety inspections required. Another highway disaster waiting to happen. If this isn't reason enough to quickly run away from these guys and cost is your only concern, consider what happens when things go wrong. Your trucker may be involved in an accident, have mechanical problems or be stopped at a scale or by police. You'll find yourself facing towing and storage fees, heavy fines as well as the cost and time involved in getting another carrier because your guy will be long gone with your deposit. It's unbelievable that with everything that has happened over the past year that there are hundreds. possibly thousands of these irresponsible people operating on our roads from coast to coast. On the other hand business is good for Ritchie Brothers and Uship.
