Like most great companies, it all started with an idea. In 1974, Jon and Christel DeHaan set out to add greater value to the timeshare experience when they pioneered the vacation exchange concept. The DeHaans developed a system that allowed owners to exchange time at their home resort for a stay at a different affiliated property—delivering a new level of flexibility and choice to timeshare owners and revolutionizing an industry in the process. Today, RCI remains the leader in vacation exchange, offering the world’s largest vacation exchange network and providing unrivaled products and services to enhance the vacation ownership experience. It’s one of the many reasons why more resorts trust RCI to deliver vacation exchange services to its subscribing members than any other company across the globe

Given wrong info had to sleep in the car…
We went on our first holiday in some time, We booked a local flight although it was a late flight because RCI stated there was a 24-hour front desk and it was more convenient. When we arrived the reception was closed, there was an emergency button but that was pointless no-one answered it. We drove around in blistering heat off the coast of Africa during a heatwave trying to find a hotel, to be told by them all "Sorry we are full". We then had no choice but to sleep in the car. it was so hot we might have died.
We were told by the reception the following morning they close at 23:00 and RCI should know this.
On our return, I emailed my displeasure to RCI to be told "After checking, we found out that the website has the correct information and that the reception is able to accept check-ins until 16:00" and sent a screenshot, which clearly shows check-in starts at 16:00, so I wrote back "That is completely incorrect check-in times suggest the earliest check-in time and you added the word Until to suit yourself, you should know this and the suggestion is ludicrous it CLEARLY states 24 Hour reception above that please escalate this to someone higher and tell them I am not happy with your lack of knowledge"
Not only was I not contacted by a superior I got a snotty email back by the same individual saying "Thank you for your email.
It can be a pain when you mistake one thing for another.
We do encourage you to visit the RCI Website to check the actual information displayed there"
HELLO!!! check yourself!!! it clearly states check-in starts from 16:00 and again you didn't even mention the 24-hour front desk....I cannot believe not only does RCI employ ppl that don't know how to read check-in times but they add their own spin on it as fact, then insult the injured party...We have gone from being angry and disappointed to furious.
You seriously need to own up to your mistakes instead of trying to blame the customer and then insulting them ...FYI I don't know why but I emailed the hotel to ask if check-in was from or until 16:00 just in case I have been reading these wrong for 40 years and they agreed you cannot check in BEFORE 16:00
(Typical gaslighting when you start questioning yourself)
Waiting for my search to be found for 1 1/2 years plus
I deposited two (2) weeks of my Southern Calif.. beachfront timeshare into RCI in January of 2022 for a search to start for one of two weeks in Manhattan NY. That's two weeks deposit for one week. It is now going into August of 2023 and I have not heard anything from RCI. I call and the CS says nothing yet. Now I have to pay for the week in Manhattan myself. Very disappointing to say the least.

RCI is terrible
My biggest problems with RCI are that it nickel and dimes you to no end, the resorts are mostly very dated, and it is difficult to find one available when you want to use you deposits or exchange your timeshare. I actually find that I despise RCI! But I'm stuck with it.

Hi i'm rci user since 1994.
Last 5 years it is not possible to make a good exchange. All the season weeks are for rent with a big coast between 900 and 2500€/week!. For me rci is a new booking,Expedia ...
The rest outside the summertime is possible to change but in oktober,november,december..when nobody will go in vacation...
I have a red week with 24 points.

RCI is a scam
RCI is a scam. Maybe it used to be good? Now they take your deposited week, which you pay for in order to receive "currency" which you are told can get you something equivalent.
You will not. This will not happen. This is a fabricated story, maybe an intentional lie. You will spend your time in utter frustration looking at a bunch of properties in places you would not care to spend a weeks time at, most all of which look like they were build and furnished in 1984.
I deposited a really beautiful "Red Week" in Whistler during a good time of year for skiing, in an awesome location that is highly desirable. 2br / 2ba unit that doesn't feel like a throwback in time when you see it.
After hours of frustration when you find nothing of interest on RCI's antiquated website, you will call them and they will nicely ask you "tell me where you want to go and when"? This is a nice thing to say but it is really a deflection to what people are looking for and needing to actually make a decision. What you NEED is a robust search engine with ample latitude to see what your AVAILABLE OPTIONS are. They do not have this. If they say they do, it is (again) so antiquated and impossible to actually use, that it is unhelpful at best.
They got sued maybe 10 years ago for taking deposited weeks and simply renting them out to folks outside the RCI member network. For all I know they're still doing that -- it certainly feels like they are because there is NOTHING on their platform that is anything close to as nice as what I deposited with them.
Then they've got this gig where you can rent other stuff, such as All-Inclusives and whatnot. I swear they double the price on anything I can otherwise find through Costco or something, and give me NO CREDIT for what I've deposited.
It is a scam. I'm the sucker because I paid them money for all this. I will not renew, and I will simply walk away from my "points" from what I've deposited with them...because any option we are finding on their platform are places you couldn't pay me to spend a week at. I would rather do a staycation!!
Maybe they're going bankrupt I'm just the last sucker to figure out how bad they are? Maybe I can't find anything on there because everyone else in the world has already stopped using them? In any case, learn from my experience and DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT using these guys unless your a glutton for punishment.

RCI has a bad Cancellation policy …
I got 1 weeks free timeshare through RCI at Kahana Villa Resort, Maui. I paid over an extra $1,000. for an extra bedroom. The Resort reviews are so bad,,roaches everywhere, sheets smell of pee, musty odor in rooms, minimum front desk hours. Yet they lied to me and told me these are great condo’s at the time of booking. Now, they are telling me there’s a NO Cancellation policy. You should refund customers if they don’t want to stay in Roach rooms.

LUIS the smart mouth Customer service Representative.
I spoke with a Representative by the name of Luis and he wouldn't give his last name. This Representative was so rude when talking with him about the cancelation. He told me that all the representatives tell people what the cancelation policies are. I told him how are you going to tell me what the Representative said to me when you wasn't on the phone. I then Saud, wooow this is the Customer service representative that RCI has as the first point of contact. I asked, to speak with a Manger and he told
to do what I want to do. I said, again your very rude and smart mouth to be helping clients. I'm really thinking about canceling my timeshare. After reading the RCI reviews it's not good.

BEYOND FRUSTRATING !!
BEYOND FRUSTRATING !!! Everything from trying to navigate the (archaic and slow) website, to rude customer service reps, to more fees every time I try to book something. Add to that - NO decent inventory for places or times. UGH!!! I have points I have paid for and just want to use on principle and be done with this company.

Very Unhappy
We have been trying to get accommodation for 4 years and RCI still don't have any availability. Although we have timeshare weeks space banked we still cannot get availability. We are also happy to purchase the weeks accommodation if this is their preferred option... but no availability. We have been member for +30 years.
RCI used to contact us when they had availability for our search/requests. We spend so much in fees they suggested we upgrade to Platinum membership and this would give us more options however, after upgrading, no improvement, we very unhappy with the way this once amazing company is now been run, where is all this accommodation going, if people cannot get availability to any request even thought its a 1 year in advance that its been requested ?.

Charlatans. Avoid
Everything you read here is accurate, this is an outdated business model, not in the least interested in customer experience, displays zero loyalty to existing ‘members’ charges additional fees for every part of the process and favours itself in every conflict. They pulled out of ‘representing’ my timeshare (ie do nothing and charge for the privilege), threatened to cancel the one last, legitimate booking I made if I didn’t renew full membership for another year, despite them not representing me for ten months of that year. So they can have that week I paid for back, with no refund of booking fee and smirk all the way to their bank. I would rather rebook with a decent, honourable company than these charlatans. Avoid.

Stayed with RCI @ Wyndham Sea Garden
Stayed with, and RCI property named Wyndham Sea Gardens in Pompano Beach. It was a terrible experience. Customer service at check-in was terrible. The rooms were disgusting, and no keys were given to me til four hours later. Therefore, we cannot get an Therefore, we cannot get into our room. We had babies with us and had to wait outside in the heat for four hours. All they cared about was to sell me another timeshare or upsell a timeshare. I do not recommend this property to anybody. I called RCI to complain and they said they could not do anything about it because the property is in charge of their own stuff so please do not book here this is a terrible place.

I have owned a time share for 18 years
I have owned a time share for 18 years. I signed up with RCI the first two years and realized it was useless. I couldn't ever get a week to exchange that was comparable to the unit/resort I owned and the fees they charge are ridiculous. I signed up again last year and banked two years of my timeshare. I have had the same experience but worse. If I don't renew for another year I can't use the property I reserve because my membership will be inactive according to Alex- the representative I spoke to who also could not give me his last name, employee number, a supervisor, email contact, etc. They also have a horrible cancellation policy. If you don't pay for cancellation insurance then they take 100% of the fees paid even if they are for services that won't be used because you are cancelling. I will never use RCI again.

I have been a member of RCI since 1982…
I have been a member of RCI since 1982 when you traded a week for a week and everything was fine. Then came the point system and Wyndham corp. When they went to the point system it screwed over everyone who had weeks. People would come in and use their points for the weekend which took the whole week away from weekly owners. I feel that the resorts that were on the week plan should not have been allowed to also go to the point system. I have been to buyer meetings and they want me to give them my units and pay them on top to switch to points. If RCI was so great like these replies they give you then way does it only get a 1.3 rating. Please reply to me and tell me if I’m wrong.

I have been a member since 1984.
It was wonderful. Many choices and I traded all over the world. NOW it is a joke!. Few resorts available, vacation plus is about the same cost as if I booked it directly with the hotel. I believe soon everyone will pull out and find an alternative unless RCI can improve their inventory. I do like the point system, but with nothing available other than off season resorts or added cost for vac plus, I don't think they will survive.

I recently joined RCI to exchange my…
I recently joined RCI to exchange my week in Laguna Beach as the dates were a conflict with a work trip. We have a Gold Crown resort. Everything I tried to book was an exchange plus property which was not explained to me when joining! The exchange plus properties are supposed to be highly desirable. I tried to exchange for one of these properties and the wanted to charge me $999 on top of my $289 exchange fee. The property I wanted to book was in Washington and had many open start weeks. (Highly Desirable???) I went directly to the Washington property website and I can book a week there for less than than the $999 plus the trade fee from RCI!!!!! WTH…. Seriously ….If I were to book this week in Washington, I basically would give RCI my week in Laguna Beach plus pay them $1288 for the exchange! I say SCAM what a waste of my time and the exchange of my week! I am furious and very disappointed with this business they get you in but you are screwed once you deposit your week unless you want to go to Palm Springs in the middle of 120 degree weather. Unbelievable how they stay in business!
