It cost me about $300 a month more. And after I canceled, "it takes at least 30 days for it to be activated" - another $230 over. Buyer beware. (Customer service is great but can't do ANYTHING about... See more

Harassed at my doorsteps

Harassed at my doorsteps. This guy came, just claiming as a supplier for Eversource, which is my electric company. He said everyone around here is being over charged and is eligible for a $25 dollar gift card. I said ok..then he said he needs to call the rep to confirm that he spoke to me. He said nothing of switching at this point. Then when he called a rep came on, asking about bill information. I got uncomfortable when the lady asked can you confirm that you are changing your supplier to resident energy? I was hesitant and he was being super pushy. He even said " say yes to that" when I obviously was hesitating. Luckily my husband came out and told him we are not interested. He even had the nerve to said to my husband " I thought she went over information with you". How was that possible if my husband just appeared to the front door? Whoever trained these guys was probably from the mafia. Stay away.

I cant state enough how i was HARASSED…

I cant state enough how i was HARASSED by the sales man!!! He would not take NO for an answer, The provider charge was just 1 cent less than NRG which is my provider now...I give a damn about a 25.00 gift card. The sales person was hard to listen to from the overseas customer service department he was calling from and LIED said he was calling from Chicago, which I did google the phone number...PUSHED and pushed and insisted if I just let him give me a confirmation number I would then get the information I requested in the mail so that I would be able to determine if I wanted to switch. While I had him on the phone I went and read reviews!!!! so glad I did as others have been scammed
Totally disgusted with scams, and the sales person somehow knew we were Seniors because he mentioned that in our conversation. I will not be a victim of BS scams!!!!! And I might add the sales man said the company has excellent reviews while I was stating to him I was on line reading as we were speaking how many bad reviews they had and he denied all those reviews and continued to push me to change. I kindly asked them to remove me from their calling list and if I receive another call I will report as harassment!

2 young men came to my door yesterday

2 young men came to my door yesterday, asking me if I received the rebate yet from National Grid. No? I didn't see it in the news? Yes, in fact everyone should have received their check in the mail and they were there to help those who didn't get it yet. They just needed to see my National Grid bill. Oh, here's the problem - I didn't change my supplier yet so I won't be able to get my rebate until I finished the "protocol". Protocol meaining that I needed to change the supplier in order to receive a 5% discount off my bill for 6mths. It'll take just a few minutes. They dial up someone on the phone, coach me through when to say "no" or "yes" to the person on the phone and whazzam! - I'm now enrolled into their energy program and I'll be getting a gift certificate in the mail very soon.
I don't consider myself a naive person, but this guy was good. He was talking so smooth and skipping from one topic to the next that I couldn't keep up. I actually thought at first that they were reps from the state coming to make sure that we were aware of the "National Grid changes" and to make sure we were benefitting from them. Come to find out, all of this was a big pile of poop and a complete waste of time. Midway of our conversation, I actually asked them if they were scammers. "No no, we're here to help the little people!"
When he was leaving he quickly mentioned that I'd be receiving the variable rate of $ 0.16 with a 5% discount in my first month. WhAH???? I'm paying $ 0.13 now. Why would I want to pay more? "NO, no", they say. It might be that, it could be lower. Well, why did they specifically say $0.16 then? When they left, I checked their website and indeed, the current rate is at $0.16. Luckily if you don't sign on to a fixed rate with them, you don't have to pay a termination fee and there is no contract, meaning I could cancel at any time. Next morning, I did just that. If anyone comes and asks you to look at your electricity bill, kindly tell them to leave and close the door.

Very knowledgeable and friendly…

Very knowledgeable and friendly customer service representatives. I didnt really understand what I signed up for initially, so i called the number that the sales guy gave me when he got me enrolled. It did take like 10 minutes to reach customer services for Residents Energy, but the girl I talked to there was SO helpful and SO nice and patient with me. Now im paying a rate lower than my local company was offering, locked in for almost 2 years.

Complete scam

Complete scam. They even wore ameren tags around their neck and when asked if they were a co op told me no. They had a copy of a bill and pretended it was mine. When I told them it wasn't my bill they asked for mine. Told me I was supposed to get a refund in the mail because my energy supplier was changing. The rate they gave me was nearly 3x what I already pay. Called and canceled within 5 minutes of the rep leaving. Called ameren and asked to block the request to change provider. Screw these people

Rip off

Rip off. If U want electric you would do better to fly a kite in a thunder storm like Ben Franklin. Do not understand why the state attorneys let them stay in business with their rip offs and harassments.

They sent me fake $25 card

They sent me a $25 card. but it doesn't work anywhere but their predatory capitalist corporations, like NIKE. I tried to use it twice today and it was rejected both times. Residents Energy is a rip off company.

I have been sucked into another supply…

I have been sucked into another supply change scam I am afraid. Last time I did this I swear my bill went up by 250%. Well this one (Residents Energy) showed up at my door a moment ago swearing that Comed sent them to provide a discounted supply on a natural energy. I told them I didnt want to change suppliers from my last experience being so bad, and they swore they were only here to update my service to the lower rate because I was paying too high a rate. They kept saying that Comed sent them to update my service- like it was mandatory for everyone. I am terrified to switch- I think this is probably a scam. After saying they just needed to check my acct data I am pretty sure I just signed up for a new service. I told her I want to stay with my original service provider.

I don't want to have to deal with R.E. again. Very slick talkers. They called up some other guy and this woman at my house talked over him and then told me to say Yes to his questions. I couldnt even hear what he was asking half the time... deceitful tactics. He explained something about variable rates, so I said "I thought you said I was going to be paying 9cents flat rate" he and the woman both acted confused and "didnt even know what that question was about but need me to say YES I understand"... I asked them to repeat the questions several times with no clear understanding... High pressure... I feel duped. And thats coming from someone with a degree in sales. Feel stupid :(

Total scam artists

Total scam artists. Used deceptive tactics to talk their way into our house and switch our plan, then freaked out on us when we caught them in the act. Ended up with police at our house. Never let these people talk to you about your energy bill or anything else.

Residents energy is a SCAM

Residents energy is a SCAM. They come to your door, and right off the back they're being deceptive. Wearing a badge that says they work for your city. One of their sales reps, Drew, came to my door and said he just wanted to check my bill and make sure I wasnt getting over charged. That my bill shouldnt have 5 charges under the eletric supply, there should just be one. Called the agent, and he told me I would just be speaking with someone to verify some things such as my name and address. I couldnt quite understand the agent on the phone, so Drew said he woud give me a thumbs up to say yes or a a thumbs down to say no. I repeatedly asked him if I was changing anything because I was comfortable with my energy bill. He assured me he was I wasnt. Well that was a LIE! Come to find out he wasnt even supposed to be present while I spoke with the agent. Do not invest in this company. They are scammers and liars. I will NEVER do business with them.

Horrible Experience

I cannot get into contact with them at all. They won't pick up the phone, I can't send emails to them because their website freezes as soon as I try to. Two women would NOT stop knocking on my door. Straight up 3+ minutes of persistent knocking. And when they ask for verbal consent, I can't even understand the woman on the phone. The women tell me she's just confirming simple things like my name. I am so heated and cannot believe I got myself into this scam. If they come to your door saying they are with your electric company, DON'T TRUST THEM

Steer clear of Residents Energy unless…

Steer clear of Residents Energy unless you enjoy spending close to $200 of your energy bill on service surcharges! My bill went up 139%!!! We called to switch back to Duke Energy and were told that it would need to take a few months (i.e. we want to scam you of your hard earned money for as long as possible). I can't say enough bad things about this carrier!! Our usage went down, our cost for usage went down but their cost to pad their pockets via surcharges were over $100 the first month and $200 the second. Never Again!!!
