Thanks to the staff and the great vehicle we had a memorable travel experience in Iceland.
Excellent Service and we got the car that we have ordered at a reasonable price, cheaper than international companies.
Used Reykjavik Cars while on a cruise. The Rep met me at the ship for pick up and drop off when finished. Easy, fast and convenient. Vehicle had GPS which was easy to use and required to figure out where to go. It made our site seeing days a great experience. Easy to arrange from the US also.
In June 2018 I rented a compact manual transmission car and was given all the information I needed to have a successful tour and experience in Iceland. We took the car on the ferry to the Westman Islands and had a blast. The staff were so friendly and I would recommend them to anyone. Can't wait to visit Iceland again!!
Apart from a a short wait for the shuttle on arrival everything else was fast. Lava are very relaxed about the whole process. Chips on paintwork are deemed acceptable and in fact they didn't really bother to check the car on return. Car itself was the standard Dacia Duster in white, which while a little basic is ideal for the gravel roads. I would definitely use them again
This place was great, the car was ready on time, easy pick up easy drop off, they have a shuttle but you can easily walk to and from the airport from there.
Having done a lot of research on car hire companies in Iceland I decided to use Reykjavik Cars as they seemed to have the best overall reviews. Firstly they are not a car rental company but an agent. The company we hired from as Lava Cars and I have to say they were excellent. They were waiting for us at the airport to take us to the local office, the driver was really nice and friendly, we were shown around the car and because the person who had checked it had just started with the Company the guy did another check and pointed various chips etc and marked them on the sheet. I really do recommend you at least take gravel insurance out as the paintwork will get chipped on the gravel roads, of which there are many. When we returned we pointed out the WiFi hadn’t worked and they immediately refunded the cost. I would certainly use again and having seen the queue at the rental desks for Budjet, Euro Cars etc I am really glad we went for a smaller company.
I admit that I'm one of those customers that have to ask everything before booking, because you have a lot of insecurities when it comes to renting a car, specially if it is you first time in the country you are visiting. I was greatly surprised when I got an answer right after I emailed them, because you never get an a reply that quickly, unless you are in some sort of chat, which never really work lol. Their customer service is outstanding! I exchanged a few emails with them, and every staff member was very kind and helpful. Once we arrived, and picked our car up, everything was perfect! The car was almost brand new, and the service at the office excellent as well. The prices are very good as well. I highly recommend this company, and I will definitely book with them in the future when I come back to Iceland!
Pickup at the airport, the car and the car return met the expectations.
No issues at all. An excellent experience.
After reading many online reviews of Iceland rental car companies we were very concerned about renting from the right company. By accident I ended up at Reykjavik Cars website and found a really good rate with full insurance. (Including sand and gravel coverage.) There was no way that I was going to rent without full coverage so the amount companies charged for full insurance made a difference in the total cost.
After booking the car and paying the deposit, I realized that Reykjavik Cars was a booking company and not an actual rental agency. I enquired as to who my rental was with and was advised my car would be provided by Lava. I researched that company and found many excellent reviews so I was not concerned. The price I booked through Reykjavik Cars was less than what I could get the same vehicle through Lava directly.
We arrived in Reykjavik at around 6:30am and when we exited the baggage claim area there was nobody there to meet us. A quick call to the number provided and we were advised that the van was on its way to pick us up. They were on there way because they were there in about a minute. The rental office is off airport and only a short drive away. It was convenient for us as our hotel was in Keflavik and only a short drive from their office.
We picked up our Dacia Duster and headed out exploring. The vehicle was less than a year old, was a diesel and had a manual transmission. Thank goodness it was equipped with a GPS. The street names are long and by the time you decipher them you will be well past your turn!
We were also advised to be sure that we were putting diesel into it rather than gas. Something we were told happens quite frequently.
At most of the fuel stations that I use in North America, gas is dispensed from a black handled pump and diesel from green. In Iceland it is the reverse. Gas is in the green handled pump and diesel in the black handled pump. Double check and be sure because it is expensive if you get it wrong.
As we picked up our car early in the morning we were advised that if we noticed any additional damage on the car to call as soon as possible and let them know. When we inspected the car later in the day we found that there were numerous chips in the windshield. I called to let them know and there were no issues when we returned the car.
The return to Lava was easy. No unexpected charges and the staff we dealt with were very pleasant. Once everything was done they took us back to the airport and we were on our way.
We had a great experience with Reykjavik Cars and Lava Rent A Car. Our next rental in Iceland will be through them!
The best price we found for diesel was at Costco in Reykjavik. Dinner at Ikea was also very reasonable!
I asked for a Suzuki Jimmy because I had previously used this car I ordered the best insurance package.
The first problem is they gave me a Dacia Duster, that is bigger but clearly a worst car and brand, there was no other option with the same price so I had to take it. Additionally, I've to say that the handbrake wasn't in good conditions.
In adition, they told me in the office than they could charge me more than 120 euros if the car was dirty at return, that's a terrible service, I've rent cars in 5 different countrys and it's the first time I had this term.
The only positive point is that the car was manufactered in 2016, as I asked.
very good car and helpful people in the office. I strongly recommend them because of the competitive price and kind help even before the trip, which made us fell calm. Meanwhile I suggest tourists from China get cars fueled in advance since near the renting office there is only self-service petrol station accepting only cards with 4-digit codes. Or maybe I didn't found one but at least google didn't guied me there.
Best service ever with a great car. With Reykjavík cars it was possible to discover Iceland with tranquility. Super recomend the service.
Perfect Service!
Thanks a lot for a perfect car, everything was really great and when we will be back, we will rent the car for sure at Reykjavik Cars!
We had a great experience with Reykjavik Cars. Everything went smoothly, no hidden extra costs, great service and a fair price for a car rental
In Iceland!! We rented the Dacia Duster and it was big, safe and a great car for touring around Iceland in all conditions.
Thanks a lot Reykjavik cars !!
it,s a serious Company and they have very good cars.
We rented Dacia Duster and this car made us feel safe.
Very smooth rental and return experience
Our rental through Reykjavik Cars was spectacular. We spent a huge amount of time researching all the different options in the area around KEF airport and there was a lot of disparity in quality and price, but this seemed to be the best value that we felt reasonably confident would not cause problems for us.
Ended up being a great experience. We picked up in the Blue Car Rental facility and had hardly any wait either on pickup or drop-off.
One word of advice: the car rental area is an easy 3-5 minute walk across a parking lot from the airport doors. You don't have to wait forever to get the bus.
I went to Iceland with my family for a quick 5 day vacation for Labor Day weekend this summer. After getting picked up at the airport and being ferried 30 minutes away to the Green Motion Car Hire garage and waiting another 30 minutes to get called to pick up my car, I chose not to get the absurd ~$2300 "premium insurance" because I've always been a careful driver, and my credit card covers it.
However, after getting my keys, I was shown my car which was outside in the pouring rain, and no Green Motion employee came to inspect the car with me! And even though I took pictures, it was quite difficult to do any type of proper inspection in the pouring rain...this will be important later. In addition, as soon as I pulled out to pick up the rest of my family which I had left at the airport, I found that they had given me a car with virtually no gas, with only for 5 Km. Unfortunately, when I went to three various gas stations to refill, but none of them would take any of my chip and non chip credit cards, and there was no one to help me, so I had to waste another hour of fruitless efforts and driving back to Green Motion to demand they fill up the gas tank for me.
Thankfully my vacation itself was quite lovely - Iceland is beautiful! However, upon returning my car to Green Motion, even though I took quite a comprehensive set of photos of the car's initial damages, Green Motion charged me for a tiny damage to the paint that wasn't even 1/3 the size of a standard American penny. Unfortunately my photos that I took of the front end of the cover didn't cover that one section, and so I couldn't prove that it wasn't me. They then tried to charge me for another similar nick, but thankfully I did have a photo for that damage, and they had no choice but to let it go.
They then charged me the full ~$2300 insurance policy until they could get the damage assessed by a local garage. Recently the full bill has come out to be $1300 for the small nick, which is absolutely ABSURD, especially seeing as how I've talked to multiple car garages who said they would all quote damages at ~$200-$300. I will now be contesting this claim with my credit card insurance providers to get my due justice, but BUYER BEWARE - Green Motion will do everything they can to squeeze every single bit of money out of you that I can.
Sadly it wasn't until after I had this experience that I did my research and realized this is a common problem with Green Motion all around the world, but particularly their outpost in Iceland. Check Trip Advisor if you don't believe me...
Dear Reykjavik Cars,
Definitely a 5!
We rented a Toyota Land Cruiser from you for two weeks in June. We could not have
been happier with the first class service you provided and would not think twice about using
you again if we come back to your stunningly beautiful country.
We had a fabulous holiday and the vehicle you provided was perfect, and it was so easy to pick
up and drop off.
Very pleased customers
Thank you
