If you book at Rhodium - you get Goldcar at Athens Airport

The shuttle didn`t pick us up outside the airport. We called the phone number mentioned on the voucher. No one picked up the phone for 30 minutes, and after that the office was closed at 22 o` clock. Me and my tired family had to go by public bus to our destination… Best of all: we had made the booking at Rhodium, but the shuttle and the office was no other than GoldCar! The next day we called again during office hours. Still nobody answering the phone. Don`t waste your time.

Goldcar-Rhodium lied me into extra expenses

This is about an officer at the Faro Airport office, but I suspect it is company policy to con customers into extra expenses. I submitted this same review for Goldcar, as they use these brand names interchangeably.

The officer told me that it was not possible to pay the rental nor deposit by maestro debit card, although it is clearly mentioned at their website that it is: www goldcarhelp com/en/faqs/10-methods-of-payment;

In this way she forced me into getting an extra insurance (€80.85/week) to lower the deposit. I had already booked a good and cheaper insurance with Vipcars, but she said that did not cover everything (but it does).

After a stressful attempt of more than an hour to increase my credit card limit which failed as my bank was closed, I was forced to pay the extra not-needed insurance.

The next morning however, while checking the invoice details, i also saw that there was an unexplained item called "upgrade" on the invoice, of €27.00.
This turned out to be an upgrade to a larger car, that they had not informed me about, and I didn't need.

She also persuaded me to take the electronic toll pass of €15, lying to me that the national roads are severely congested (we very happily took 1000km of national road, avoiding the A-22, but never mind).

I called three times with their customer service center, of which two times the connection was lost suddenly. The third time I was helped very kindly and the call center employee confirmed that I could have paid with debit card. She explained me how to file a complaint on their website and/or via mail, which i did. I also called several times with Vipcars who confirmed I stood in my right. Vipcars also kindly tried to mediate by phone at the time of the issue at the Faro office, but the officer declined and claimed that the extra insurance was unavoidable. Btw I also tried to call to the customer service center to resolve the payment issue at pick-up, but they were closed at that time.

The customer service did not address my complaint and the request for a refund but told me later per email to go back to the Faro office to settle my complaint.

I did so at the time of the car-return, but (another) officer said bluntly, that since i had acknowledged the payment and the contract with my signature at the time of pick-up, there was nothing they could do.

So, beware to ever get a car with Goldcar or Rhodium. They may look cheaper than other rentals, but they will trick/force you into extra payments to make up for that. That's the red line in the story you can read in many reviews about them on the internet.

Never rent from Goldcar or Rhodium

They always find a way or an excuse to charge you extra money.
Never ever return a car when the agency is closed. I’ve been given a car already with many scratches and damages. I’ve returned the car without having the opportunity to discuss with them and got 200€ charged for a scratch I couldn’t verify or discuss.
Another time same for the cleaning. Make sure you’ll clean perfectly otherwise they will claim the EXTRA cleaning.
Wherever you look on internet they have very bad reviews while on their website the rating is 4 out of 5, obviously. Fake reviews. Obviously.
I’ve rented more than once with them due to the low prices. Then there’s always some issues. Never ever.

Paid ALL fees in advance, only to be told that an additional 170 Euro must be paid when collecting the car. Apparently only half of the insurance was paid and another half must be paid, as well as local taxes, otherwise we can’t have the car. We paid this and later contacted the company with original booking info after checking through all paperwork. It clearly shows that we paid for insurance twice. The additional €170 was more than the original booking and they added fees for optional extras which we did not request. The invoice i asked for was not in English so I couldn’t understand it at the time. Still no refund or even any acknowledgement of wrongdoing.

Madrid Airport Rhodium / Goldcar Rip Off.
Damage Charges and return inspection carried out in super fine detail with no inspection and no recording of marks and scratches on check out (when there were many). This feels lime a scam to take money from customer deposits and we received an aggressive rebuttal of any possibility of discussion about this on car hire return. Rhodium/Goldcar to be avoided at all costs! What we should have done is photograph the car in detail ourselves at check out!

Rhodium/Gold Car Faro.
Firstly, they misrepresented the all-inclusive-insurance & car hire cost. They told me that the TOTAL for the hire would be 118 euros (my original car hire was 57 euros), inclusive of the total insurance cover. Once this payment (118 euros) had gone through - they then said that they had to charge 57 euros for the hire as well!!! When I demanded a refund - they said it wasn't possible and that it had already been processed.

After driving the car for 3 miles the oil light came on and so did the screen-wash low warning (included photos in my complaint to them)...…………….seriously, a complete joke. I've complained to their customer services on all 3 counts, but nothing back. They don't care and they don't want to right their wrongs.

Goldcar / Rhodium, scam, not a company

1. Reception with intimidation about insurrance
2. Unfriendly and unhelpful service at the pick-up, unclear about process of registered damages
3. At return, impossible to spot damages to the roof where found, we are sure they must have been there before, but unlikely to notice at pick-up, I'm convinced they will be claimed over and over.
4. at return agent was unwilling to supply a confirmation that the car was returned, very stressfull shortly before departure.
5. Creditcard was charged for total deposit car/fuel, instead of a reservation, so now I need to go after my money
6. we are now in process of getting back our deposit, Goldcar / Rhodium is unavailable and unhelpful

Terrible experience

Terrible experience. No one at the train station where we were told to pick up car. Gold car finally gave us address of a hotel where a nice young man came in to get us our car. Wasted hours of our trip. No info on return location and now a charge for $180 for not returning car with full tank but we had filled it to full minutes prior!!!
Please gold car/Rhodium, give us back our money!

Do not book with this company

Do not book with this company. Staff very rude and try to pressurise you into taking out insurance. I had excess protection insurance so didn't take out their extortionary insurance and they were not happy, I guess they get commission on this. Anyway after returning the vehicle they have charged me 250 euros for a tiny scratch they said wasn't on the vehicle before. I believe they have made this up or even made this tiny scratch after I dropped the vehicle off because I didn't take out their insurance. I have tried to contact them to dispute it but they are not interested. Worst car hire company I have ever dealt with and I have used a lot.

AWFUL, NEVER AGAIN!

A reservation of a car for 4 days that had to cost according to WISECARS 125 EUROS, ended up costing 245 EUROS.

At the GOLDCAR Barcelona (Rhodium) counter I was told that if I could not provide a credit card (I only had a debit card) the only options were to pay in advance more than 1000 EUROS or purchase another all risk insurance (I already had Full Excess Protection coverage from WISECARS). As my debit card had a commercial limit lower than 1000 euros I had no alternative but to take out another all risk insurance. :(((((

Terrible

Might be a bit cheaper at the beginning, but not worth it!!
They won’t accept foreign debit cards, charge extra for going to other EU countries, and extra if you have held your licence for less than three years (not two like other companies).

People, guys, friends!
Never ever use this company or Gold Car ( which is apparently the parts of one dishonest company. They are literally thieves. They robbed me without eve giving me a chance to realise what was happening. Ar the pickup desk under the petrol cost they sold me £200 insurance, reassured that this money would be returned to me as a deposit after the car drop. I had my own insurance and they filed it all together with my other documents copies and gave me a smile saying that my insurence is fine and I do not need theirs one.
Only on return home I saw that £200 were unrefundable
Also their customer service are extremely rude . They just hate you. ALl they need as to get as much money from you as possible. They are thieves

STAY AWAY FROM THIS COMPANY! I WAS LITERALLY ROBBED WHEN I CAME TO COLLECT THE CAR. I paid all online fees and was sent an email saying that I do not have to pay anything at the counter whilst collecting the car. However, when I was picked up by the van and taken in the middle of nowhere, they demanded 200 euros more and threatened not to give me the car when all the rent had been paid already online. A man with a badge Thomas made stony face whilst doing all this robbery. I now checked the reviews on this company and found that hundreds of people were robbed in a similar way by the company.

We booked a rental car for Portugal…

We booked a rental car for Portugal through Rhodium/CarJet. They seem to go under a host of names. The car we picked up was from Gold Cars at Faro Airport. When we arrived, it was bedlam with one person checking in and out cars. He did a cursory check of the car, did not explain ANY of the functions and got very irritated when I proceeded to point out various defects and when I took my own photos. I was asked if I wanted an upgrade and I said I did not. I did not get the car I had booked and when I checked my statement, I had been charged an extra 50 euros or more for this. I am now trying to get in touch with Gold Cars and so far, no response after a week. I was hoping not to have to go through Trustpilot, but as they have not contacted me, it's their own fault. Do not use this company, they are devious and underhand practices. We booked Argos Cars 2 years ago and they were great.

Worse company - grand theft and scam!

Worse company! Avoid at all cost!!! They charged us a fee to go to Spain from France, insurance was more than the price of the car. And, to top it off, 60 euros for "inappropriate use of the car," for extra cleaning of floor mats because there was some mud on them. Yeah, it was raining the whole trip. A SCAM! AVOID!!!

They stole €300 from me

They stole €300 from me, claiming (fraudulently) that I damaged the vehicle. The photos they sent were obviously altered. This was not a misunderstanding, they deliberately committed fraud, counterfeited evidence, and stole my money! Avoid them at all costs, unless you have a spare €300 lying around...
