Absolutely appalling company

Absolutely appalling company - they stole money from us and refuse to give it back. We had our own insurance policy which they acknowledged and then charged us for their own rip off insurance.

On the issue you described, please let me explain our clients have two options of coverage. Both appear clearly detailed during the booking process, in the FAQ section of our website and in Terms and Conditions of the contract you accepted.

First of all, you can choose a basic rental. With this rate it is needed to leave a deposit that remains blocked in your credit card until the day you return the car. If, unfortunately, the car has any damage, amount of repair costs will be deducted from the excess fee initially blocked.

On the other hand you have Super Relax coverage, with which you don't have to worry about anything because all incidents may happen are covered.

We always recommend our clients to take out Super Relax cover for their own safe and tranquility on the road, but they're completely free to decide about it.

Here some more observations.
I rented a car for 14 days as described below. I deliberately chose another company than Goldcar because I previously have had bad experiences with them. Therefore, my surprise was big when I had to go the Goldcar stand to get my car.

Because I rented a car for more than 10 days, Goldcar withdrew 1200 euro on my account. I have now, almost, received all of my money…. Goldcar changes the exchange rate so it’s in their favor, meaning that I got 47 euros less than I payed. A real hustler move.

There was no staff in the parking lot to check the car when I picked it up, and they refused when I asked them to come. The same thing repeated itself when I returned the car even though I once again asked. I guess it’s much easier to hustle people that way.

And another thing. I did not sign the contract by hand but electronically when signing my credit card and therefore did not know what it said. When I got home I realized that Goldcar had put another name than mine in the contract which could have given me serious problems if I had any problems with the car.

Know, that if you choose goldcar you can´t count on the price. Check the contract meticulously even though it´s in Spanish. Take pictures of the car before you leave, inside and out, including the dashboard when the car is turned on to register the amount of gas. Do the same when you return. Make sure to get a picture of the lot number.

Hope this will make you choose another company than Goldcar/Rhodium.

I'd like to explain you how our coverage policy works. We always make the customer choose from two different options: you can purchase our additional coverage or you can leave a deposit in which you'll be liable of any damage made to the car, as our agent explained you at the counter. In this case you choose to leave a deposit, and according to our T&C section 3: The excess amount depends on the category of hired vehicle, whereby the following amounts are set:
Amount to be temporarily withheld on credit card or temporary charged on debit card.
X/XG/AA/4A/BB/CC/CG/S/M: 1.100 €
D/DD/DE/DG/E/F/FF/L/LL/N/R/T/TA/V & VV: 1.400 €
G/GG/GW/I/J/K/O/P/PP/Q & JJ: 2.000 €.

And this deposit may be retained for up to 30 days after the vehicle has been returned.


We will like to inform you that we give our customers the option to pay in their own currency. This has many advantages as our conversion rates are often more favourable than the rates offered by some banks, and you can instantly see how much you have been charged in your own currency.
Our records show that you accepted and signed for the charge so it cannot be refunded or charged in a different currency once the rental period has ended.
If you check your credit card statement you may find that you have not been disadvantaged.

Furthermore, we have one of the youngest and most extensive fleets in Europe with over 50,000 vehicles which, on average, are less than one year old. For this reason we have large amount of client who trust out services, for this reason sometimes we don't have staff available to follow the client to check the car again, since this car was checked already and each of anything wrong with the car is marked already on the check out paper.

We are surprised to hear that you said you did not signed your contract by hand, because it's not our normal procedure. Also every copy of the contract is handled to the client so he can be aware of all the charges which can be different since the initial prices on our website are for basic rentals. Our customers are free to add as many services as they need, with the consequent increase of the price. But it any case the decision of adding an extra depends only on them.

Do not touch with a Barge pole - rip off merchants!

I booked the car via the web and my pay on collection price was €80.78.

When I arrived at Almeria airport to pick up the car I was told there were fuel admin charges of €40+. I questioned this and explained there was no information about this when I booked & let the clerk know I was not happy with this. He was more interested in trying to intimidate me into paying the €131.76 extra insurance charge. At the airport I paid €131.78, that I thought was for car hire and fuel. I did not take the extra insurance. The clerk charged me in GBP without asking me so I incurred a poor rate plus 2% mark up charge, I was not offered the option to pay in Euro's. I left the airport expecting to get a refund for unused fuel and also feeling ripped off by Goldcar's sharp practice.

When I returned the car to the airport the man checking the car told me the fuel refund would automatically be refunded to my credit card. Upon return to the UK there was no refund and my card was charged another €49.50.

I expected to pay €80.78 plus fuel costs, was charged €181.28.

5 July. Reply to Goldcar comment. The car was booked as full to empty. Fuel to be paid for at pick up and unused fuel to be refunded. When booking there was no mention of "admin" charge.

If you are surprised that I was not allowed to pay in Euros, ask your employee at the airport what his procedure is. I look forward to another page of your BS when you bother to reply in a months time.

We would like you to understand that every car book with us has a fuel rate services includes and you can choose from the following rates:
Full-Full Rate: receive a full tank and the return it full. This system is included as part of the Classic Reimbursement System (CRS). It is similar to the classic Full-Fuel system. When the customer arrives at the counter, he/she will receive a vehicle with a full tank, paying a deposit; when the customer returns the vehicle, always with the tank full, he/she will receive the full deposit.

A penalty will be applied if the car is not fully refuelled upon return, the amount of fuel, in litres, required to fill the car will be charged
Flex-fuel rate or Smart: You can collect your car with a full tank and return it as suits you. In exchange for making a payment for costs for the location, fuel and administration. a refund of the fuel will be made once the car has been returned.
Crazy Smart rate: fuel system flex-fuel, you can pick up the vehicle with the fuel tank and return it as suits you. In exchange for making a payment for costs for the location, fuel and administration. A refund for the fuel will be made once the car has been returned.
Each fuel rate request every client to leave a deposit.

I booked a car for 5 days from Alicante …

I booked a car for 5 days from Alicante airport. after reading reviews about people being charged for scratches that don't exist, I decided to pay 210 euros for the hire, super relax cover, and express check in...what could go wrong? Firstly, the spare wheel was on the car, and the service light was on, so not really fit for hire, but as I was in a hurry, I decided to take the car anyway, I chose the full to full fuel so left a deposit of 135 euro on my credit card, to be refunded if the car was returned full. When returning the car I left it with a full tank and in the same condition as when I collected it. I asked if they would check the car when I returned it, but they refused. The next day when back in England they emailed me to say they were charging me 10 euro for fuel, 50 euro penalty and 30 euro for a special clean...you are rogues Goldcar and shouldn't be allowed to trade.....300 euro in total for a car that should never have been hired out in the first place....terrible!

We would like you to understand that your booking fuel rate was the full full, which means that you receive a full tank and the return it full. A penalty will be applied if the car is not fully refuelled upon return, the amount of fuel, in litres, required to fill the car will be charged. In this case you returned the car with ⅞ fuel instead of 8/8. And for this reason you were charged 6€ to refill the tank and aswell 50€ penalizacion for not returning this tank full.
This is stated in our T&C section 7.B (https://www.goldcar.es/en/tc/): Likewise, if Goldcar is the one failing to meet its obligation to deliver the vehicle with a full tank, the company will be required to compensate the customer with twice the foregoing amount as a specific penalty for failing to meet its obligations in the manner agreed with the customer.

Ought to be closed down

Please note this company is under two names they have created a new one Rhodium to cover up the fact that Gold car is so bad.. they charge you for scratches that arent there even if you have proof they are the worst company ever to deal with and true scammers been done twice now as I did not realise Rhodium was them beware ... even the woman at the car hire place said the car was dented before we took it and made note but still we got a hefty bill when we came home ! I shall see them in court

Don´t get fooled by Goldcars low rental prices!!!
They will charge you extensively at the pickup desk!

We booked a car with Golddar through Renttalcars.com (Autoeurope) purchasing the extra supercover insurance. At the time of arrival Goldcar charged us again for the supercover, a fee for fuel to fuel and a fee for late arrival. You arrive thinking you have paid the full amount including the extra supercover insurance. Then at the rental desk they charge again plus other sudden extra unexpected costs. (Contract in Spanish).

After returning home I wanted to contact Goldcar. No email address posted on their website!! When calling them you get through to an operator referring to their website!

This experience gave us an extra unexpected cost 350 Euro!!!

Long long long wait

Long long long long wait just to get the car delivered for later being robbed of 88 eur for a 1/4 tank diesel. Really miserable treatment taken into account that payment for the rent had happened left 2 months earlier. It was my opinion that as big a company as Gold Car, had a guess how many cars they rented daily and could put the number of employees in order to serve the upcoming customers. But no out of 5 counters were only 2 staffed. I know this is a bad boost, but now it's the second time I rent a car at Gold Car and the service has been equally miserable both times why I've never decided to use Gold Car again.

Please let me explain we make daily arrival plannings but, unfortunately, there are mishaps out of our control, such a delay of a flight for example.
Also we offer a personalised customer service, and for that reason some customers need more attention time than others.

Nevertheless, I'm happy to tell you we're working hard to open new branch offices to reduce waiting time of our customers and inconvenience due to it.

Anyway I would like to explain you we have a Priority Check-in service you can add during the booking process. With this service you don't need to worry about queues, because there is an exclusive desk for it.

We are aware that third parties offer customers their own coverage, as in your case, but it should be explained that this coverage is only applied when a charge is debited from the deposit left by the customer to the rent-a-car company, this is how the third party's coverage policy works. This information must be given by your broker.

We always recommend our additional coverage to customers for their peace of mind because thanks to it, they will be fully protected in case of an accident and we won't be liable if any damage is made to the car.

Goldcar peggiore compagnia autonoleggio di sempre

Il sottoscritto ha prenotato un auto con la vostra compagnia ma, al momento del ritiro mi sono state proposte soluzioni inaccettabili, non previste dalle condizioni di contratto.

Ad esempio il blocco di una somma per il fluel flex, non richiesto. Il sottoscritto ha anche fornito la possibilità di utilizzare 2 carte di credito intestate al noleggiatore dell'auto ma categoricamente mi è stata negata la possibilità di prendere l'auto. Pertanto l'auto non è stata ritirata, ma sono stati addebitati circa €85 per il noleggio, Il contratto stipulato con atlaschoice non prevede alcuna fluel tax e anche sul vostro sito non è specificato.

The undersigned has booked a car with the company GOLDCAR but at the time of the withdrawal I was offered unacceptable solutions, not provided by the terms of the contract.

For example, blocking a sum for the fluel flex, not required. The undersigned also provided the option of using 2 credit cards headed by the charterer but categorically I was denied the opportunity to take the car. Therefore the car was not withdrawn, but about € 85 for the rental was charged, The contract with atlaschoice did not provide any fluel tax and even the GOLDCAR site was not specified.

I got scammed as well

I got scammed as well. They have tried to charge me £358.45 for no reason at all. There were scratches already there when we picked up the vehicle and they took pictures and also noted on my copy of the car plan. When I returned the car, the engineer checked the car and told us everything was ok. When we got back, they charged us the above amount without our authorization or any paperwork. I am currently in dispute with them. Also the guy who served us ( I think his name is Patrick) was incredibly rude...

It is important to follow the procedures. At the time of picking up the car, our agents will always give customers a check out sheet with all the damages the car had previously. We always ask customers to have another look at the car and to mark the damages that we could have missed or that the car may have received while it was parked. This sheet has to be signed again by our agents.
By doing so both parties are aware of the damages the car had at the time of picking it up.
When the car is returned, if our agents find something that wasn't marked on the check out, they consider it happened during the rental period. An investigation is opened and, if the customer service team can't find any evidences that the car already had this damage, they charge the customer.

Scammers

I got scammed. They made me pay 180 euros for a small scratch that was already there when we picked up the vehicle. We notified all the damages at the beginning but they told us everything was ok. After the return, they charged us that amount without our authorization and validation, sending us a picture of one mark that was already there. First time I booked with them and last one. I have never had a similar situation with any other rental company. Pirates...

Worst rental car company in the world

Worst rental car company in the world. They are famous for cheat and deceive customers. Be aware with their fuel policies and for the charges for "damages" they will try to charge you if you don´t buy their insurance!

At least D*ck Turpin wore a mask!!

My advice is never book with this company as they are dishonest and make extra revenue by ripping off tourists!

After waiting over 40 minutes in a queue with only 5 families in front of us ....... then we were at the front and the really polite young lady tried to book us in but there seemed to be a fault on the system! After several more attempts and 45 minutes passing she decided to book us in manually and this took a further 10 minutes! Why she didn't do this after attempt number 2 only she will know!!! (Perhaps common sense and compassion is not on the training agenda for Goldcar!) Any way happy days we were booked in and then she hit me with a 102 euro fuel surcharge on a car that only takes 50 euros of fuel! Then the insurance scam kicked in but having been a victim of this in the past I had taken the extra insurance Argus had offered on there site stating if you don't take this it will cost you a lot more at the counter or you will have to pay a 1200 euro deposit so I ticked the box and paid the extra £50 odd on the website....... so I stood there with my insurance certificate from Axa only to be told by the lady that it was no good and I needed to leave a 1200euro deposit or pay an extra 141 Euro in insurance and then the fuel so I got the keys after handing over a extra 243euro on top of the £158 I had paid online for 5 days car hire!

Our clients have two options of coverage among which to choose a method of coverage. You can select our Super Relax coverage that covers the possible damages of vehicle and has assistance in highway 24 hours, without franchise and without blocking any deposit of the card (http://www.goldcarhelp.com/en/faqs/recogida-del-vehiculo/58-what-is-the-cover-super-relax).

In the case of not wanting to take our coverage, the client has to leave a deposit that starts from € 1100, when the car is returned, if it has any damages our agent proceed to deduct the amount of the deposit and unlock the rest. In case of returning the car in the same state in which we deliver it, we proceed to unlock the total amount of the deposit. Some of our clients sometimes hire our services through an agency and these agencies offer their insurance that is foreign to Goldcar. In this case, they must leave the deposit and not to choose our Super Relax coverage. In the unfortunate situation that the car is damaged during the rent, the amount of the deposit is deducted and it is the client who has to claim the reimbursement of that amount to his insurer or agency.

On the other hand, for our fuel rates you have to leave a deposit that is unlocked if the customers return the car with the tank as it is delivered (Full). In the case of the Full-Full rate, if the car is not returned with the full tank, the customer will be charged a penalty, the amount of fuel used and the remaining fuel is returned. In case of returning the car with the tank full, the deposit is returned in full.

In the case of the Flex rate, our customers accept to pay a fuel handling and administration fee in exchange for being able to offer them the possibility to return the car with the tank as it suits them. We take out the used fuel from the deposit and return the remaining amount.

Never again will I hire from GoldCar

Never again will I hire a car from this unscrupulous company. They charged me 300 Euros for damage to the door and wing of a car hire in Gran Canaria. I hardly used the car and most certainly did not have an accident with the hire car. I had to leave the car early before their offices opened because of an early flight home. I was shocked and appalled that 300 Euros was charged to my credit card for this alleged damage, but was at their mercy for not being able to be present.

It is important to follow the procedures. At the time of picking up the car, our agents will always give customers a check out sheet with all the damages the car had previously. We always ask customers to have another look at the car and to mark the damages that we could have missed or that the car may have received while it was parked. This sheet has to be signed again by our agents.
By doing so both parties are aware of the damages the car had at the time of picking it up.
When the car is returned, if our agents find something that wasn't marked on the check out, they consider it happened during the rental period. An investigation is opened and, if the customer service team can't find any evidences that the car already had this damage, they charge the customer.

DO NOT trust Rhodium Goldcar one inch! They will RIP you OFF!

I booked a car for 5 days in March 17, from the airport in Malaga. The price was good and it was relatively easy to find the office. Car hire companies are all cloaks and daggers; I had bought my own waver insurance (Axa) which was less than £3 a day but they still tried to get me to take their No Drama insurance for €99, and they gave me a Diesel car and charged me €10 for that - diesel is cheaper but I declined and went petrol. It wasn't a straight forward transaction, they bamboozle you with stuff you don't need!
On returning my car, which was kept in a secure and almost empty underground car park, I was told to drop my keys and go. I've always handed over my car to someone in the past and this didn't feel right, but it was what everyone was doing. The car was clean and it was as I had hired it. The next day I was informed that they had taken €150 from my credit card as the car had a scratch in the body work. They sent me a picture of a scratch on a black car, reasonably close, and another of my registration number - they could have managed to get both in one photo. I am positive this was not on the car when I left it at the airport, but there seems to be nothing that I can do. I've since read other reviews from Malaga like this so, DO NOT LEAVE THE CAR WITHOUT PHOTOGRAPHING IT OR HANDING IT OVER TO GOLDCAR. This was very disappointing and I won't ever be using Goldcar or recommending them to anyone again. Be careful.

Payment for 1€, when I am buying things from you is kr 7,85.
But when I return with full diesel you pay me only kr 7,50. Bad for me.
The day I pick up the car, your employees do not ask me about wish insurance solution I want. No, they find the must expensive solution you have.

Next period I asked for others solution off insurance. The answer were. You can pay 1100€ in risk, but if the possible damage is more expensive I have to pay more than the 1100€ I pay first. Well than isn't november insurance.
Bad information.

Stay away from this company - part two

Hello again, Goldcar!
For New Readers: In february I rented a car from this Company at Malaga airport. The car was delivered back with a full fuel tank and no damages. Goldcar still have drawn 550 euros from my MasterCard. They have never given any explaination. Their only answer is that they are happy to hear from me, and that they would like to have more information.

They have got the necessary information several times, but I will give it once more.

The Reference number is ES702851250. My name is Bjørn Runar Haaland, and the 550 euros in question were drawn from my account on february 19, 2017.

Actually, I am quite happy if I do not get an answer here, or the same stupid answer that I have received earlier. It looks so much better when I turn the case over to the Spanish police..

Old scammers from Goldcar

Apparently Goldcar got too notorious for their scams so they invented this new brand "Rhodium". New brand, old tricks. Rented with them at BGY airport. They tried really hard to sell me their expensive insurance which I refused having sufficient coverage through broker. Then they tried to tell me my MC card, I have been using for 6 years, is "fake" (without running it through the machine) just by looking at it.
If you want to have fun traveling and don't want to start your holiday dealing with unprofessional, dishonest company which will try to rip you off, do yourself a favor: avoid Rhodium/Goldcar

Worst experience I've ever had with car rental

-Wrong Car
-Deception: The company told me that I was lying when I told them that I have an insurance via Wisecars. Had to pay huge amount of deposit. Furthermore they told me that the car does not have even one scratch and therefore it is not worth checking it before my signatature. I did and it had like 10.
-Unfriedly (Customer Service never replied via mail. Disinterest on the phone)
-Incompetent
-HAD TO WAIT 2 MONTHS FOR MY 1500€ DEPOSIT! I only got it back in the end thanks to Mastercard.

Thanks for contacting us. After reading carefully your message we understand you've contracted a third party's coverage.
We'd like to say that our agent meant was that when customers have a third party's coverage it doesn't exempt them from the two options we always have. I'll explain you why.
All customers are required to leave a deposit for damages and accidents and the only way to reduce this deposit to zero is purchasing our Super Relax Cover.
If the customers have a third party's coverage they can choose to leave the deposit and if they get charged for damages they can request a refund to this coverage they have purchased externally. Please understand that we are not aware of what this coverage covers, so we must warn our customers about the risk they're taking.
That's why we will always recommend customers to purchase our additional coverage because thanks to it customers are not liable for damages and they have 24h road assistance for free.
In case you chose to leave a deposit, we would like you to know that according to our T&C section 3: The excess amount depends on the category of hired vehicle, whereby the following amounts are set:
Amount to be temporarily withheld on credit card or temporary charged on debit card.
X/XG/AA/4A/BB/CC/CG/S/M: 1.100 €
D/DD/DE/DG/E/F/FF/L/LL/N/R/T/TA/V & VV: 1.400 €
G/GG/GW/I/J/K/O/P/PP/Q & JJ: 2.000 €.
About you being charged for damages, note that our normal procedure is to give the client to be present during the check in process, but to choose this option or not always depends on them. We only charge client for damages that are clearly not in the check out paper.
We are surprised you mentioned you received your deposit 2 month later, since this is unusual because according to our T&C section 14 (https://www.goldcar.es/en/tc/): The deposit is returned at the end of the rental period after the vehicle has been inspected and compliance with the Agreement’s general and specific terms and conditions has been verified. For that purpose, the deposit may be retained for up to 30 days after the vehicle has been returned.
