Absolute and total scam
Absolute and total scam this company should be hounded out of buisness immediately.
I had identical experiences to others where i requested at the drop off point to have the car inspected by 2 separate operatives to be told if there is no damage then alls good. There was no damage the tank was returned full however i had the excess deducted subsequently from my credit card without any explanation. I am still trying to contact Gold Car / Rhodium without yes you've guessed) any success only to receive via the agent "Do You Spain" an invoice for the excess without any specific damage indications. i have not been able to correspond with anybody since which is an absolute disgrace.
This is an open chequebook for extortion and fraud of the highest order and something has to be done.
They were told at the pick up desk that i had my own Annual excess indemnity insurance and as with others this is a green light to scam you of the excess for you to claim back.
I have hired many cars abroad without any problems but this is an absolute con / scam / disgrace. I can't believe this can be allowed to happen its totally illegal and must be the hire companies responsibility to check the car and confirm any damage or otherwise before they can take money from peoples accounts.
I am absolutely livid and determined to seek redress on this issue all costs.
Nor far from being a scam.
I rented a car with them, not knowing Rhodium belongs to Goldcar (had I known, I would have chosen another rental company).
Bought the option to have damages refunded via my broker and as such didn't buy the extra insurance with them.
Car is delivered with damages in nearly all panels. Nearly, but crucially, not all! Upon return, in less than 1 minute their employee finds two extra spots not previously marked: under front bumper and in the windshield. For those I was charged EUR 785. Sure, the insurance company will reimburse me, but save yourselves the hassle and choose another company.
They're a scam. Their business model consists in renting cars cheaply and then charge fortunes for damages that were already there when you picked the car up.
A total scam.
AVOID!
AVOID!! Believe me! I was forced to take out full coverage insurance before they would let me take the car - they did not accept the basic insurance included in my car rental agreement with Economy Bookings (another company to avoid!!) . Agent was rude, completely unprofessional and oblivious to the way someone in customer service should behave. Horrendous.
AVOID RHODIUM OR GOLDCAR EVERYWHERE ON THIS PLANET! WORHTLESS
Worst carrental agent on the planet! AVOID AVOID AVOID ! Bought an insurance before departure even an OWN risk insurance! On Arrival at Malaga airport they said my car was not insured! They forced to take their insurance or no car! They rip off clients ! Very agressieve rhodiumstaff at malaga airport !
Also avoid goldcar because its the same company! An old ford fiesta 57000 km no radio, no cd player, the power was 0, couldn’t ride on a Hill. They also block an amount for the fuel, 119 euro’s !

[Another] Case of bogus charges
[Another] Case of bogus charges
I've used their Nice (France) office and got charged €387 for allegedly driving 3.780 km in 4 days.
The scheme is simple: when you are returning a car you don't have time and all you are looking for is a nod from a drop off guy saying "all good", right? Wrong! Get a written receipt stating odometer reading. Otherwise, they can claim anything, and you don't have any way to prove them wrong. For the record, I drove 205km and I used the car every day during the rental period, so 3.780 is complete nonsense. But hey, good for me that they didn't say 13.780, or I would have to pay that too!
The worst car rental company I have ever used
I have rented cars in many parts of the world; this has to be the very worst on the planet especially at Malaga Airport. Extremely poor customer service, in fact, non-existent customer service would be a better description; aggressive tones and even told by one member of staff, "when you are in my country you speak my language". The report sheet on the car showed one area of damage before I used it. I found seven other areas of quite serious scratches, scuffs and scrapes. Did the previous driver pay for this and then Rhodium Staff do not record it in the hopes the next driver will not check so he/she pays for the damage again on returning the vehicle. I had to photograph the damage and send an email to Rhodium as directed by staff, but I was then told that I may have caused the extra damage in the car park. I was told the petrol tank was full and to bring it back full. After only 24 kilometres the gauge began to move off full. I filled the car up myself and did not see the gauge move until after 147 kilometres. Scamming, unprofessional, impolite staff who know zero about customer service and who make racist remarks. Will never use them again.
Terrible car rental company
Terrible car rental company. The rental was booked by someone in our group who also took out extra insurance at the time to cover any excess in case of damage. Having read previous negative reviews about Rhodium scamming its customers by making them take out extra insurance I was aware of this and warned a couple next to us at the rental desk who were in the process of this very scam. The lady serving us clearly didn't want her colleague to lose his extra commission so intervened saying that it was true that their extra insurance was invalid but ours was OK. But little did we know there was a new scam in stall for us. Magically my credit card didn't work and the Rhodium employee on our desk was unable to use it to block the 1100 EUR insisting it was due to my card limit. After a few attempts I rang my bank in the UK who confirmed that they could see the transaction taking place, that the PIN entered was correct and there was no limit blocking it. My bank told me that it was a scam and the woman was not entering the transaction correctly and blocking it in some way. When confronted she refused to try another card machine or let her colleague process the transaction. 90% sure that she was lying and after an hour at the rental desk she eventually came with the "but"...."you could pay 431 EUR which includes this and this and this and the card will definitely work". Clearly at this point we knew for sure it was a scam and left to rent a car from a reputable company. I really don't understand how a company can operate like this in this day and age. Absolute fraudsters.
STOP!
STOP! Do not rent your car at Rhodium Car also cald Goldcar you will definitely be cheated
AVOID! Hidden costs.
AVOID!! I was charged the full deposit to my credit card. This is not normal with other car hire companies, you pre authorise the deposit amount and they only take the money if they need to.
As I was paying with a UK credit card I was charged transaction fees of £42 to pay the deposit and another £42 for them to refund deposit. There is no need to actually charge when pre authorising is an option.
Also very aggressive sales staff trying persuade you to buy extras on pick up.
DO NOT USE Rhodium car hire at Bari…
DO NOT USE Rhodium car hire at Bari airport. Staff were rude, obnoxious and would not take no for an answer with the excess car insurance. They were honestly ghastly people. You may save yourself £100 on when booking it but trust me when I say if you pay for the extra £100 for car hire elsewhere it will be a nicer experience and also ends up costing the same once they make you purchase the add ons with Rhodium. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
Avoid as a plague (rhodium=Cold Car)
Comments on the car rental company RHODIUM
The undersigned, Ronny Olsson, conducted a trip to Mallorca 24-31 / 5 (Norwegian flight D83664 / 83 665) with a mate. Through the Norwegian website, a rental car of RHODIUM (ES956802320) was also booked during the visit to Mallorca. Insurance was signed during the rental period (AXA G001SWEES956802320).
The car was picked up and left at Mallorca airport on a fully-fledged date. During the time the car was used, nothing meant that the car was damaged or subjected to violence at all. When the car was returned, I asked the staff on site to check and verify that the car was fully tanked and without damage. Was informed that everything was ok and there were no problems.
Without any explanation or information, RHODIUM charged me 154 + 116 Euro on my Norwegi Card in connection with the return of the car. Following various correspondence with Car Trawler Custom Care (Ref. 00836525), I received information that there was a cost of damage to the car during the rental period and discovered during inspection of the car. At the same time, I was informed of using supplementary insurance. At this stage a refund of 16.15 Euro. The total extra charge made by RHODIUM is now 250 Euro.
After pressure on injury documentation, two photos were obtained, one of which showed damage to the left door handle and the other same door handle without damage and with a key to verify that it is our "vehicle". Of the photos obtained, it is not possible to determine which vehicle the damage is.
On the Facebook page for RHODIUM there are a number of dissatisfied customers who encountered the corresponding event. There is a suspicion that the company systematically deals with this type of fraud against customers. As a customer, of course, you have very hard to dispute and disprove this kind of alleged damage.
A summary conclusion of the incident is that Norwegian Airlines should remove the car rental company RHODIUM from its website. Unfortunately, this type of event is not only RHODIUM, but also the otherwise quality-conscious Norwegian Airlines.

Do not rent from Goldcar or Rhodium, they are thiefts!
This is the worst car renting experience ever, they stealed 520€ from my credit card after my rent period without any reason, the car was perfect and full of gasoline. They avoided to check the car when I returned telling me to leave the keys in the return box. I asked why they did it and they said that there are some damages, but this is a pure lie. This situation is unacceptable, it's real fraud! Do not rent from Goldcar or Rhodium, they are thiefts!
Rhodium AKA Goldcar Lisbon rip off…
Rhodium AKA Goldcar Lisbon rip off Lisbon, I was robbed of €350 by Rhodium / Goldcar for damage repairs I never caused.
On returning the car the check in guy started photographing under the car, he went straight to the front right under the bumper, and said I had damaged the car. We were never asked to inspect under the car by them when we collected it, the underneath of the bumper had been scuffed, you could see it had been done a long time ago.
If any body has been charged in Lisbon for damage to a black Fiat 500, right bumper, underneath the can then please IM me, it was too rehearsed, I doubt if I am the only one they have been caught by this.
Scam tactics with credit cards
We rented car via rental cars with full coverage insurance. Everything was prepaid of around 210EUR. So we expected only to pay deposit at pick up and of course have it returned after.
When we arrived to pick up car, we presented a valid credit card for deposit to be blocked. And here a surprise - employer told us that our card is debit and cannot be accepted. It is clearly a credit card which even has CREDIT on it written on. American express also not accepted and my wife's cards could have not be accepted as booking was on my name. So with me having credit card which they say is debit in their system company's representative was rude and not helpful and said: either you pay goldcar full coverage insurance (we already had full coverage insurance from rentalcars) or you go and hire car somewhere else.
Isn't it a nice way to scam? Say that credit card is debit and we have to pay extra otherwise we don't get a car. Card states is credit, we never had issues like this with other car rentals before but they did not listen and just kept on saying that card is debit in their system.
We paid this extra insurance of 243EUR, so in total our rental costs raised to 450EUR instead of 210EUR. If I knew this I better would have spend this money with reliable car rental company...
I had the pleasure of flying to Nice on…
I had the pleasure of flying to Nice on Saturday, and thereafter the pleasure stopped.
Went to Goldcar/Rhodium and there was a massive queue, and everybody was complaining. The closer I got to the counter the more evident it became, that everybody was complaining about a blocked fee of 1.400 Euro on the customers credit card, unless they took an extra insurance. I was waiting for more than two hours as literally everybody was in front of me complaining.
I went to the counter, and was told there was a blocked amount of 1.400 Euro for damages, but I could make an insurance in order to avoid this fee. I told the lady that I was unaware of the fee, and told her where I could see it on my reservation, and I was informed that I could not see it anywhere as it was company policy. I was, furthermore, informed that if I did not sign up for the insurance the car would be inspected thoroughly for up to an hour upon redelivery.
Thereafter I was introduced to a blocked fee of 147 Euro for petrol, which sounded expensive but reckoned I would get it back. When I finally, after two and a half hour, got the car it turned out that the tank was not full. However, had an appointment so decided not to queue for another two hours just to get a couple of litres of petrol.
When I redelivered the car, the person I redelivered the car to was inspecting the car anyway, although I have paid for a massive insurance, your company was throwing suspicion on me anyway and still walked around the car looking for damages. Furthermore, I ask for a receipt that I actually did redeliver the car in good condition, however, the person taking the car back did not have a machine to do so, and only wrote down a few things on the back of a paper back from a local bakery. It was not possible to get a receipt!
Rip of start to your holiday
Never use Goldcar or any broker that put you in touch with them. (Argus Car Hire.)
Goldcar Gran Canaria were blunt and rude and never explained half the information that we needed to know. (We weren't told about the fuel discount with Cespa or where to leave the car as they were closed on our return.)
The Argus Car Hire website advised me to buy insurance for £25, (I knew about the extraordinary insurance premium that Goldcar hard sell to people. so I opted for that.) Goldcar said that this was pointless and I should purchase theirs for €130 or leave a deposit for, wait for it, €1100! (Incidentally, I wouldn't trust these snakes with €1100. Read the other reviews below.)
And it had to be on a credit card which we don't have. We reluctantly paid €130. Then had to pay €100 in case we didn't return the car fully fueled.
So all in all a £65 car hire turned into £65 + £25 + €135 + €100. Plus the car wasn't ready and we had to walk to two different location to pick it up ourselves. (With 6 cases) We had filled all of the documents with arrival times and flight details so it should have been ready.
I swore that I would never use them again last time we used them, unfortunately, brokers do refer you to them and you don't know until after you have booked. Stay away from them (and Argus Car Hire) at all costs and find another provider. MONEY GRABBING COWBOYS

Goldcar (Alicante Airport) PLEASE TAKE …
Goldcar (Alicante Airport) PLEASE TAKE CARE!!!!
First of all, I´m a spaniard living in the UK. I took a flight to Alicante and I rented a car with Goldcar. The car they lent me wasn´t in good conditions with a lots of dents and scratches. They gave me a template full of dents/scratches to review in a dark light parking in the airport, so it is very very dificult to see some kind of defects. Well, I went to my house in the weekend and I came back to the airport in order to take another flight that sunday to the UK.
Some days later I got an email telling me that they will charge me more than £300 because an inappreciable scratch in the same side that the car has 2 previous dents (one of them is very big) and scratches (I´m sure that the small scracth was before my rental). And the other defect is a like a two small hints in a side, that there were in the car when I got and I didn´t reported because they are smaller than the "Damage Assesment" they gave me, so it shouldn´t be reportable, but now they want to charge me with those defects. Even more, in the email they sent me, they have attached two very bad quality pictures about the defects and no any explanations about the amount they want to charge.
I think they want to charge because I didn´t get the insurance with their company. I got my insurance with a third party in Doyouspain.com, the portal where I rented the car.
In summary, bad service, bad conditions car, insufficient information and abuse.
PLEASE TAKE CARE WITH THIS COMPANY. Never more with GOLDCAR!!!!

Despicable untrustworthy con people company should be fined and shut down. Trying to get money back through credit card. See gold car scam pages on Facebook.
