Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Looking at 114 reviews, most reviewers were somewhat happy with their experience overall. Many customers have been loyal for decades, appreciating the wide selection of running shoes and gear, often finding hard-to-locate brands and good deals. They often find the website easy to navigate and orders are typically correct and delivered on time, with some even praising the freshness of products due to recent manufacturing dates. Reviewers also value the VIP program and the knowledgeable staff who provide excellent fittings and product recommendations, especially for those with specific foot issues. However, some customers experienced significant issues with orders, including lost items, incorrect shipments, and unexpected charges, leading to lengthy resolution processes. The website and online cart functionality were frequently criticized for being problematic, with issues like non-functional search boxes, difficulty with saved passwords, and orders not processing correctly. A few other people also felt that staff knowledge was sometimes limited, and some reported receiving worn or inappropriate products, with customer service being unhelpful in resolving these concerns.

You have to buy a membership to get…the shaft

You have to buy a membership to get best pricing. That wouldn't be so bad but they don't offer free returns as a membership perk which is just wrong. If your order is lost it takes an unnecessarily excessive time to get a refund and you're told you need to call back in a week to check on it. They refuse to follow up with you via email about a lost package. You have to call back and wait on hold forever. Recording always says wait time 5 minutes. Ha-Ha. Wait time is never 5 minutes. 25 minutes, yes.

Why 5 Stars

Why 5 Stars? At age 78, I don’t like shopping. Noel at Kildeer,IL proved me wrong. He explained the process, gave helpful advice and I left feeling like my time was well spent.

Excellent experience and shoe fitting…

Excellent experience and shoe fitting in Crystal City VA. Minnie was my fit expert and she was amazing and knowledgeable. I have back and feet issues and I need quality shoes and inserts, which I was able to find at Roadrunners. Minnie found me several walking shoes and after a lot of trials, I settled on the Hokas. Unfortunately, Minnie wasn’t able to order them, but she was able to find me a pair of Brooks trail shoes. She also fitted me with inserts. It was a great experience and I would recommend stopping in to see Minnie.

I had a really disappointing experience…

I had a really disappointing experience with Road Runner Sports, and I want to share it in case it helps other parents — especially those with children who have sensory sensitivities.

My son has autism and is very sensitive about the shoes he wears. We went to the Road Runner Sports store hoping to find something that would work for him, but they had very limited stock in his size. Waiting in-store was difficult, and my son struggled during the long wait. The manager was not helpful at all and just told us to order online.

I placed an online order first thing Friday morning. The representative told me the shoes would ship the same day from San Diego and arrive the next day (Saturday). That didn’t happen. When I called to ask what was going on, they said I would have had to pay an extra $14.95 for priority shipping — which I was never told during the original call. Three days have passed since I placed the order and I still have no idea when the shoes will arrive.

I also tried calling their customer service, and the representatives were rude and acted annoyed that I was calling. Instead of giving me a clear answer, she just said someone would get back to me within 48 hours — which is not being helpful at all.

For a company that markets itself as a top running store with great customer service, this experience was incredibly frustrating — and it caused extra stress for both me and my son. I hope Road Runner Sports takes situations like this more seriously in the future and trains their staff to be more understanding and transparent, especially when dealing with families with special needs.

Great prices; easy to cancel membership; great return policy

Great prices, membership is easy to cancel, even if you forget to cancel and are charged - just call them and they will refund the membership fee. The have 90 day test runs, so you can try shoes then return if they don't work for you. This site has been a lifesaver trying to find the right shoes! Highly recommend!

This Company is Horrible!!!! Stay away

This company is terrible. I have been VIP member for sometime now, and I ordered a pair of shoes, and did not work out for me. So after less than 30 hours of having the pair and only wearing them 15 min or so, i decided to return them the next day. Went into the Costa mesa store and the associate told me i could not get a refund just a store credit because they were unsellable.. I have photos to back everything up. They hid behind their 90 day wear policy, and there are better retailers out there with a better exchange/return policy. I cancelled my VIP membership and never again will I buy from them. I even went to go speak with corporate office, and they said the decision made at store level stands, and they could not override that. They said they are equal in their decision making.

Staff was knowledgeable

Staff was knowledgeable, I got an exceptional fit, so much so I got a second pair with inserts. They didn't push the inserts, just let them speak for themselves.

The “bestest” running sneak company

I have been buying running sneaks from you guys for years and years. Great prices and the most speedy delivery… how do you do it so well!?! Maybe hill sprints to be the fastest and “bestest”? Also, for those nerds like me that read all packaging, your sneaks have the most recent manufacture date so the foam is the freshest!

Road Runner is the Place To Go for In-Person Shoe Sizing

I was able to get the specific, and rather great, differences between my two feet at Road Runner when I went In-Person. By contrast, I was not able to get this info at other shoe shops who would often just hand me the shoe size measurement tool.

However the online CART was a significant problem which seemed to steer me to purchase a membership. Therefore, I needed to clear out my cart and re-order MULTIPLE times.

Scam company

Scam company. First time I went to the physical store to cancel my membership, said it has been cancelled, then I was charged another year for 2025. Fine... I bought a couple shoes, since I had the membership anyway. Now, I called them five times to cancel my membership, three of which they said they are unable to because their "system is down" all on different days. Alright- two OTHER times I called, their system was not down and they claimed to have cancelled the membership. Only for me to get an email a few days later, charging me for TWO memberships!! I had to call again, saying I only had one membership that I was trying to cancel, definitely not two. They tried to argue on the phone with me, claiming I subscribed to two memberships. I had to insist, and they claimed to have cancelled it. Wrong again- it STILL wasn't cancelled. I got another email later saying I'm being charged again for 2026. They make it extremely difficult to cancel your subscription and lie in your face. My membership still isn't cancelled to this day. Will have to go through my credit card company to claim fraudulent charges.

This is the only experience I've ever had with a company where they are intentionally lying, cheating, and creating new charges out of absolutely nowhere (two resubbed memberships after all the calls to cancel ONE membership?? Hello??) for people to keep paying for their memberships.

UPDATE: I called my credit card company, and it turns out Roadrunner even charged me TWICE for one pair of shoes.

We are currently filing a dispute. Honestly, this all is clearly completely intentional and there obviously is some internal issue that is making them a black company.

All the five star reviews you're seeing are clearly fake reviews from friends and family of the employees/employers. They are trying to hide all the 1 star reviews.

They don't even measure your feet forgot anything high tech

I walked in and needed to flag someone for help, but three guys were sitting by the backroom, having a pleasant conversation the whole time I was in the store. When I did get someone, I said I was having problems with my feet hurting. I said I was looking for a good walking/jogging shoe. I didn't have a professional scan, and my foot was not measured, so I had to ask do you to have one of those old-fashioned measuring devices. Turns out my foot is wide. I suspected that, and had measured my foot it's a little over 4 1/2 inches, which is a 2E but really closer to a 4E. If you go here, know what you want, and don't expect even the bare minimum. I will never go back.

Do not get the VIP membership

More concerned about following policy than customer satisfaction. We are a military family and moved to an area where there are no close Road Runner stores. We decided to cancel our VIP membership since returns were costing us as we couldn't just return to a store. I wanted to use up our credit so I purchased one last pair of shoes (the same kind I have ordered the last 5 years). Well either my feet got fat or the design changed because I needed the same size but a wide width. I was instructed there were no exchanges and I had to do a return, wait for it to go through, and then start a new order. By the time all of that happened, my membership had run out. I am now stuck with a merchandise credit and it will now cost me $30 more just to buy this same pair of shoes that I could now go down to the local REI and get for cheaper. I called in and they would not honor the VIP price or free shipping, or refund me to my original form of payment. Very unhappy that a company I was previously happy with, that prides themselves on customer service, could not make exceptions to policy for unique cases (especially given their non-existant exchange policy and incorrect information on the phone). So again, unless you live near a store where you can go in person to do returns/exchanges, I would highly advise against getting the VIP membership or purchasing from them in general (since you have to pay for shipping and returns).

Hoka lover for life and RR VIP for over 22 years

I have been going to RR and have belonged to the VIP program for over 21 years and I would never shop anywhere else when it comes to buying running shoes . I know they have the best variety and give you 90 days to test drive your new shoes to see how you really LOVE your new shoes . If you are not happy with your shoes and you have worn them you can exchange them for another pair , who else does this ? If you have Not worn them and only worn them inside your house to see how they feel you have 60 days for full refund !! Again 60 days for a refund , that’s great as well in case you need to try a couple pairs to compare this is great !! They also through out the year send you emails with really good deals to buy clothes and shoes from them . They have great CS as well . I have my entire condo complex corner wearing Hokas now why because of me , yes I have turned my corner into wearing them and I am proud to say I have referred over 8 families to you all as well as my sister . Hokas are one of my favorite shoes for comfort and ladies if you really want a shoe that makes you feel like your walking on a cloud check Hokas out . If you don’t like them there are so many other shoes to choose but start with Hokas you may join our club haha .
Hope this review helps someone !!

Save Your Money!!!!!

RoadRunnerSports, is as followed: scammers & predators! (RRS)’s main objective is to sell membership, not shoes or any other product/merchandise. They want money upfront prior to any transaction. One might say “legal extortion.” If you don’t believe me, just read the negative comments sourced beyond the positive google reviews. From the looks of it, they do very well at hiding said skeletons in the closet. Even former employees on Glassdoor have stated they have super strict guidelines for selling memberships. (RRS) preys tremendously on the elderly, disabled, injured & overall shoppers who lack information. Customers want to improve their quality of life via footwear; however, due to shady sale tactics they fall victim to a rigged system. Buy our memberships or we won’t help you. Employees tend to carry a self righteous & pompous attitude. Whilst in reality they are providing a make belief experience. Nothing more than a script & pure theatrics. Sometimes they’ll purposely put you in the wrong shoes. Thus once again forcing you to deal with their dreadfully abysmal customer service. Sadly it doesn’t stop there. Regardless if you buy in store/ online you are guaranteed to run into trouble. Evidently it has been made clear that upper management will never address or change their ways in-house. Unironically, the social media team will publicly plead for an apology with a sizable facade of text. It is 100% phony and only for show. We know this to be true, because there are zero consequences (terminations/ write ups) on any level. In the end, their sleazy & long tenured store employees will continue to obey the command of their grossly negligent & slimy leaders. Do yourself a big favor and shop anywhere else.

I have been a member for 30 years!

I have been a member of Road Runner Sports for 30 years. That's a lot of shoes. All of my orders have been correct over all those years and on time (some come directly from the shoe making factory which is a different timeline). The prices are excellent and they have the BEST rewards program. I buy for myself, my husband and my kids. That helps to pay for the membership. I am an avid walker, hiker and beachbum. Everything I need I can find. Quality shoes only. I recently had a problem with the shipping address that was taken care of with a call to customer service who picked up promptly.

Why go any other place?

Great in-store service. Excellent return policy. I really like the VIP program. Online experience is very good. Quick shipping. It's the only place I buy athletic shoes anymore.
