SafariBookings is my go-to for booking safaris in Africa. I love how easy it is to search the interface with different criteria so you can choose the perfect safari for you. I also love the transparency - each tour lists tour company and hotels so you can do your own research on each before booking. My husband and I had a dream experience in Kenya on Masai Mara through a safari we found on SafariBookings.com.

I booked three safaris via SafariBookings.com – two of them as shared tours in Kenya and Tanzania, 7 days each, both 5-Stars rated on the platform. This review is focused on those two shared tours only.

What travelers should know: when you book a shared safari through SafariBookings, the tour operator you choose doesn't run the tour themselves. Instead, they reserve you a seat in a larger system, run by a third-party operator coordinating vehicles, drivers, accommodations, and logistics. In practice, this means:

You'll likely have different drivers every few days (I had 4 on each tour),

Your fellow travelers change constantly,

The itinerary will probably not be followed, even if re-confirmed just before departure,

Hotels or lodges may be changed without prior notice.

It may be that these tour operators own vehicles or at least have a freelancer with his 4x4 under contract, but you will surely not go with one of their vehicles on a shared safari. They just act as agents.

All companies promise a "guide," but in reality, you get a driver only, with minimal commentary. Once you’re back at the lodge, the local staff handles the rest. The "full-day game drives" were also disappointing — often starting late due to multiple pickups and ending early. Time actually spent on full-day game drives was mostly 4–5 hours.

The quality of the game drive experience varies greatly depending on your driver’s motivation and skills. I found many of them poorly informed about wildlife, unaware of good viewing spots, or inconsiderate when it came to photography (e.g., stopping behind trees, against the sun, or behind other vehicles when space was available).

Another point worth noting: after the tours, all operators pushed hard for 5-star reviews, despite my honest feedback about the shortcomings. Some even followed up months later. I got the impression that many high ratings are based more on friendliness and communication than on the actual safari experience.

I also met many other travelers with different companies who reported similar issues. So I don't believe my case was an exception.

Bottom line:

Shared safaris booked via SafariBookings are affordable and may be fine if you just want a basic "safari experience." But if you value consistency, early park access, real guides, good photo opportunities, and time in nature – invest in a private tour. I wouldn’t do a shared safari again.

Bary bad services

Our safari in the Masai Mara was truly a dream come true. From the very start, everything was perfectly arranged. We were picked up from our hotel and smoothly guided to a local airstrip, where a short but breathtaking flight took us straight into the heart of the Masai Mara.

Upon landing, our guide was already waiting for us – and he was fantastic! His passion was contagious, and he went out of his way to track down the wildlife. Thanks to his efforts, we were lucky enough to spot four out of the legendary Big Five during our short safari – an experience we will never forget.

Our lodge was located just outside the park, right by a river, with stunning views over the open plains. As the sun set, we watched giraffes, hyenas, and antelopes peacefully grazing on the horizon. It felt like stepping into a scene from a nature documentary. The meals at the lodge were delicious, and the service was impeccable – every member of the staff made sure we felt pampered and cared for.

What made this trip even more special is that it was arranged by someone we’ve trusted with our holidays for over 20 years. Time and time again, he ensures our trips are nothing short of amazing – and this safari was no exception.

In short: a perfectly organized adventure, a guide who went the extra mile, and a lodge you’ll never want to leave. We highly recommend this unforgettable experience to anyone looking to discover the magic of the Masai Mara.

This is a horrible company, DO NOT promote on this website, they put up fake reviews, take your money and do not respond to ANY messages. I have emailed them over and over demanding them to take down my company from that useless website and I have heard nothing back for weeks. AVOID SAFARIBOOKINGS!!!

The communication and service with this people is really good, the staff were friendly and kept our us engaged.

things are not clear... we booked a safari but we weren't able to see properly what was included and we ended up booking a total different thing.

Be wary of this site, if you have any problems they will not give you support, the only thing they do is put you in contact with the various tour operators but nothing more. Very grumpy when needed and 0 support.

Almighty Kilimanjaro gave us a great service, paying particularly attention to all the climbers needs it was great experience from start to finish.

For Tour operators be aware of this website that act as a marketplace place to sell your tours. They tell tourist that they get a free quote and should request quotes from 3- even more companies instead they charge the operator 1.5% to 2.5% of the whole amount of the tour that you requested. The bad thing is after we did a research we found out that 75% of all the quotes that they send the operators are fake/ they created them themselves just to get money and they know it well that if you tell them maybe this quote was fake or the client didn't even respondended while they just take their money. They threaten you that they will take you out of the platform, this shows how they don't care about the operators that they cone their money and it shows that they know that this quotes are fake and want to continue coning the operators its best to work with tour radar, trip advisor and not this company. They even don't have an office because they know they just cone operators

The communication and service with you was really good, the staff were friendly and kept our group engaged. The game drive was fun which gave me an experience I'd like to be part of again.

It was an amazing experience. I already did a couple of different Safaris and Tom was the best driver I ever had. He took his time when watching animals instead of hastily driving to the next one. He was amazing at spotting them. The tour was customised to my preference. Super friendly. Recommend 100%. Great value for money!

I had an incredible experience that exceeded my expectations: a unique safari! My guide, Moses, was fantastic. He was the perfect travel companion, knowing a lot about animals and their habitats. He also shared insights into the customs and practices of Tanzania and its people, ensuring safe and careful driving even during exciting moments.

Sarafu Travel arranged top-notch accommodation in well-designed structures and provided an unforgettable experience in Serengeti Park.

Just had an amazing week's safari with Safari By Z. The organisation from start to finish was superb. Fadhili, our guide and driver for the week, was extremely knowledgeable, found a fantastic number of animals, many of which we would not have spotted without him, and drove gently over the very rough roads, unlike many of the other drivers we saw! He has a great sense of humour and it was a real pleasure to spend the week with him and benefit from his extensive knowledge. We were phoned twice during our holiday by the office to make sure that all was up to standard. It definitely was! We could not have asked for more. Excellent choice of accommodation in the Acadia Farm Lodge, Karatu, cannot speak too highly of the accommodation and delightful staff, and Nyumbani Camp in Serengeti. Again wonderful staff who could not have done more to make out stay a real pleasure. Would definitely recommend this Company and Fadhili.

Ecological Wilderness Adventure is a five star company. I did a safari with them in August 2023. They were very well organized and attended to every detail. All employees were friendly, polite, respectful and knowledgeable. They all worked hard to give us the best experience possible. Special attention was given to make certain we had knowledge and experience with all conservation efforts, especially with respect to ongoing efforts with the Wild Dogs, Black Rhino and Chimpanzees. The food was delicious and carefully prepared. Accommodations were clean and comfortable. I especially liked the tent camp where we were surrounded by night sounds. Safety was attended to by a night guard. Vehicles were clean and well maintained. Drivers had deep knowledge and appreciation for birds and wildlife and readily shared their informaiton.
A special plus is this is a Tanzanian ownd company. The owner has worked extremely hard and continues to do so to make this a top notch company. His employees have been with him a long time. You are booking with one of th best when you book with Ecological Wilderness Adventure.
