Don’t book unless you want experience like ours
We booked St. John’s church 6 months ago
On the day we were due to pay the balance
We were informed that the cottage was being used by the owner and would not be available for our stay
Their terms and conditions are all on the owners side
No discount or offer of compensation
You try getting a holiday home in present circumstances
The available cottages were ridiculously priced
We had other deposits paid for events
Who pays them owner - no
Sally’s cottages - no
Am I angry; you bet I am
Will I use Sally’s cottages again NEVER
Will I tell all my friends; you bet
Even got friends in Kirby stephen in Cumbria who has recommended us to sally cottages he was flabbergasted and will not recommend company again
I don’t know where they are based; wish I did
They need to think of customers as well as house owners put something in terms for cancelling by owner
They should be going back to owners seeking compensation for us not that that will happen
I think that’s enough from me
But you can get the idea I am not happy
Still waiting for our money back including booking fee
Well got reply from Sally’s cottages
If you go back a few reviews you will see I was not the 1st to experience above review
Doubt I will be last
Still no discount or offer of compensation
Will not hold my breath
Hopefully people will look at this review and not use them
Still no money back
Probably contact my credit card company in next few days

Dreadful experience.
Dreadful company, no response from post stay issue. Was duped in to believing the appartment was covid safe, the apartment was acceptable but cleaning shocking. We had to delay our arrival due the settling of dust particles..and be out by 9am......laughable, will not use this company again.

Two bookings in one week were awful. Best avoided!
We booked a cottage for my son and his girlfriend and on arrival they could not stay as it was so dirty including insect dropping on pillows and more. The owners refunded the full amount and Sally's Cottages offered two other cottages. On arrival the cottage was also filthy with stained carpets, broken shower and more. Sally's said 'we only manage the booking' butter a fashion the owner gave a partial refund of the booking costs, based on the two nights (of four) that were used. Sally's was polite and prompt in their replies but ultimately a holiday was ruined and two young people, on their first ever holiday together, had a very poor experience. Worth noting that both cottages remained open for bookings despite obvious issues with them. I would highly recommend that you steer well clear.

Just returned from a Sally’s cottages…
Just returned from a Sally’s cottages holiday in bowness on windemere. I was impressed by the quick replies to emails before I booked and also the service received when I had an issue with WiFi whilst staying in the cottage. I’ve stayed with other companies who never answer their phone or emails but the few times I phoned the call was answered and dealt with. I was going to give a review on the cottage but can’t see how to do that on the website. Having read other reviews of Sally’s cottages I’m hoping that they don’t censor the reviews as it’s important to get all opinions.

Lindale
Stayed in Lindale, well maintained, refurbished, comfortable, well organised, great setup, clear instructions.
Highly recommended, hopefully everyone will take care of it!
Thank you

We have used them many times and I…
We have used them many times and I always leave a review on each place we’ve stayed (usually very positive).
The last cottage we stayed in was very poor and we had a bad experience.
I tried to leave a review via Reevoo (as asked by Sally’s Cottages) but they will not let it be published. The review was quite poor but genuine about our stay. Do all of the poor reviews on cottages ‘go missing’?
We’re not sure whether to use them again now.

Increased booking fee AKA Covid tax - Avoid
I booked using this company last year and paid a £15 booking fee this year increased to £25 booking fee (not surprisingly I did not complete this latest booking)
It’s really sad to see companies trying to profit out of a pandemic.
Plenty of other reputable companies out there not suddenly finding an extra £10 of admin.....
It is a real shame for the cottage owners that use this company to list as they will miss out on bookings.
Do the right thing Sally’s and stop your covid tax?

66% increase in booking fee
Sallys cottages have always been decent and enjoyed our stays but now a price hike in the booking fee from £15 to £25 !!
66% increase, many will feel you are taking advantage of covid.
Shameful increase !!

Leethwaite cottage? Don’t make me laugh!!!!!
Booked Leethwaite cottage.
Filthy, damp, smelly and they knew all about it before hand.
We are currently talking to other renters of this cottage who hired it through Sally’s Cottages before and after our stay.
You’d be surprised to learn that all of the problem have never been addressed, and they just wash their hands of you.
They admitted in an email that the owner knew of the rising damp issue but they still put people into this grotty place.
Apparently a guy can come round in an afternoon and cure rising damp you know. Well that’s what Aunt Sally’s cottages believe when they offer to send a handyman round to look at it.
Avoid this company at all costs, because you only truly know how good a company is until things go wrong. And believe me when I say if something does go wrong, they don’t give a sh1te!!
Ps, look at the reviews for the same cottage after our booking..........more of the same for other poor unsuspecting customers.
You let us in the property late and want us out early due to covid, then expect us to stay away another day so your cleaner can do the job properly on second time of asking.
Love the lakes, but hate Sally’s cottages.
I would not use you again and instead have opted to use Sykes, who may have some principles. Something I fear you lack.
Ps, I hope you receive the same level of service that you give on your next holiday.💩💩💩💩💩💩💩

An owner's perspective...
Most of the reviews posted here are from cottage guests. I thought it might be useful to give an owner’s perspective too.
We have let a holiday cottage near Keswick through Sally’s Cottages since early 2014. Their staff are invariably cheerful and helpful, even in difficult times like this. Covid-19 has been a disaster for holiday businesses, with cancellations, refunds and re-bookings inevitably generating a lot of disappointment. Throughout this period, and despite the obstacle of having to work from home, the people at Sally’s have performed miracles in helping guests and cottage owners to rejig arrangements.
Sally’s apply the same exacting standards that I look for when renting a cottage myself. Even in normal times, things sometimes go wrong – taps leak, and spillages happen. But any very occasional problems are always dealt with quickly and efficiently. As a local company, they are plugged in to the Lake District community, so if the usual electrician isn’t available then they know how to find someone else, and quickly. If I were renting a cottage, as I sometimes do outside the Lake District, they are exactly the kind of firm that I would seek.

We stayed at Cubben House in Eskdale in…
We stayed at Cubben House in Eskdale in October 2020. It was a beautiful and quiet spot but the cottage required modernisation considering the price! Not enough shower rooms and the kitchen was scruffy. Beware that the owners ask for a £100 deposit which you’ll never get back! We didn’t receive ours because we left a pair of old (clean) walking boots in the wheely bin! There was nothing to warn us not to do this. The signs on the wheely bins were totally washed out with no discernible writing whatsoever. You have to pay for the firewood you use and there are no goodies left for you on your arrival as in many of the other cottages.

Totally devoid of customer care
My family and I have been using this company for many years. We were due to go on holiday today but yesterday afternoon we were advised of there being no heating in the property. This isn’t Sally’s Cottages’ fault but it turns out they knew about the situation at the start of the week and opted not to tell us. After toing and froing we were advised that electric heaters were not available at the property and that because we’d had notice (of about 4 normal working hours) we would be offered NO discount or partial refund.
Our ‘options’ were to either stay at a place with no heating and pay full price or get a full refund and not go. We have a 4 year old son and invariably will get wet boots and clothing doing fell walks and rides. Without heating no doubt the nights would be cold and our equipment would stay damp. So the ‘options’ weren’t really options at all - we couldn’t do anything but accept a refund.
The staff at Sally’s started off friendly and seemingly wanting to help but in the end basically said they couldn’t help. Whilst the owner of the property wouldn’t offer us a discount, Sally’s could have but no, they didn’t, because clearly all they care about is profit. They did suggest 6 other properties but all were unsuitable. After that they just washed their hands of us. We’ve been trying desperately to find somewhere else to stay but there is nothing available. Other leading letting agents in The Lakes however, have been searching hard for us too, offering even themselves to discount the rental price due to how poorly we’ve been treated.
This year has no doubt been testing for all but we have suffered a number of personal losses and very poor health and we needed this break more than can be explained. For one thing, I lost my Father very unexpectedly a short time ago. He was an avid fellwalker and loved The Lakes. Whilst away I was planning on walking the last fell that we enjoyed together. My own small way of commemorating him.
We have been utterly let down by this company and will never, ever be using them again. They don’t care about you as a paying customer or your loyalty to the company. There is no sense of decency or compassion whatsoever.
This has left us heartbroken and of all of us, our son is absolutely devastated to not be going on what would have been his last out of term holiday before he starts school.
So, so saddened by this awful experience.

Just stayed in skiddaw view
Just stayed in skiddaw view. Great location, cottage very clean and well equipped (bowl in sink would have been good though) just two minor things - internet went off quite a bit and when it rained very noisy with water running though pipe on top of conservatory. Apart from that though great stay and good company to deal with

Fabulous cottage & great location...
Just returned from a lovely long weekend at Meadow Barn in Millom in the Lakes. The cottage was absolutely amazing! It was spacious, clean and had everything inside to cater for all our needs. The place is in a great spot for a base if you want to head out and about and discover the lakes. The beach in Haverigg is highly recommended it was a lovely little find! We look forward to heading back to the Lakes in the very near future...

Excellent customer service!!
My mother and I should be enjoying a week in Keswick now but unfortunately the day before we were due to depart for our regular holiday to the Lake district, our area went into local lockdown. We were packed and ready so imagine my disappointment! I emailed Sally's as soon as I knew that we were advised it would be against the rules to travel asking if could transfer booking to same week next year. Within 24 hours I had received a lovely reply saying this has now been done for me and entered on the online booking calendar. This is the second time we have had to rearrange our bookings as we were due to go to same cottage in May but UK was in full lockdown. I cannot fault Sally's customer service and wish everyone was as understanding and efficient. Thanks again for making difficult situation so much easier.

Fantastic service and communication all…
Fantastic service and communication all the way through from initial enquiries, to booking and pre holiday.
Despite the team working remotely I’ve not had to wait longer that 24 hours for a response and the information was always very useful and friendly, I will certainly use Sally’s cottages again especially after a wonderful family break at Halecat house. I’m already searching our next place to visit! Thank you Sally’s cottages! X

Have been looking forward to this…
Have been looking forward to this holiday all year as I have worked all through the covid 19 so to finally get away was heaven. Sally’s cottages kept me up to date all the way and what a gem of a cottage we had. Aquarius is in Braithwaite which I call my second home as I have stayed there in some form for the past 20 years. The cottage was exceptional, fantastic garden, fully equipped and cosy 3 very good sized rooms (we were 2 adults an 11 year old and a typical 14 year old, so the fact they had their own rooms was a bonus. We enjoyed it so much have booked same cottage again for next year. Thank you Sally’s cottages for finding these special places

Excellent, friendly service
Sally's Cottages were brilliant during Covid 19 lockdown. They kept me informed regularly about any updates to restrictions, the option to cancel, reschedule, refunds etcetera and answered all of my queries promptly. They were professional, friendly and helpful at all times and with this in mind I have just booked through them again for next year. I would highly recommend them as they provide an excellent, friendly service.

Great rental house
Hi,
We have just spent 6 days at 26 Blencathra Street, Keswick, booked through yourselves, Sally cottages.
We had a great time in what we can only describe as top quality accommodation.
The house was everything and more than described!
Brilliant location, exceptional quality house fitted out to 5 star levels.
Thanks again and we would love to come back in the future!
