AVOID AVOID AVOID DO NOT BOOK WITH THIS COMPANY
Despite government advise being no unnecessary travel and social distancing .Despite repeated attempts to get a refund on £1000 myself and nine friends have paid to spend a weekend in a cottage this coming weekend Sallys Cottages are refusing to return our money....quoting their terms and conditions. Whilst we respect this in its legal capacity we are astonished that this company are trying to force 10 people to risk themselves (and in turn all of their immediate family members) to go against official government guidelines or technically lose £1000 for the sake of their profit margine. Im sure their cottages are beautiful and well run however I think everyone should rethink booking with this company due to the morally reprehensible company policy in such dangerous and scary times for everyone in our country. Shame on you Sallys Cottages . AVOID AVOID AVOID

A fabulous week at Bisoi near Keswick
We have just returned from a great week staying at Bisoi near Keswick. The house was fabulously appointed and ideal for either a large family or, as in our case, 3 couples.
We arrived to find a comprehensive welcome pack, certainly the best we have had in around 20 or so years visiting the Lake District👍.
The house proved to be warm & cosy with ample space for us all. We would certainly have no reservation in recommending the house to others visiting the area.

I am shocked to read the poor reviews…
I am shocked to read the poor reviews as I had a lovely stay in The Swallows property. The property was clean, beautifully decorated and homely. The beds were comfortable and the bathrooms were too. The owners had left a lovely bottle of wine which was a nice touch. The only downside was the spiders but theres nothing that can be done about those! I would definitely stay again and for a longer period.

Sally's Cottages are Rip Off Merchants
Sally's Cottages are currently refusing to return our breakage deposit. They didn't bother telling us, which by the way is in breach of contract. We had to chase them. I guess they were hoping we would forget about it. They *claim* that there was damage to a fridge. There was. It had obviously been there for a considerable time, long before our arrival. How many other customers have they attempted to rip-off in the same way? There are plenty of great cottage providers in the Lakes. This isn't one of them.

Shocking Stay at Lostrigg Cottage
Absolutely Disgraceful.
So the cottage was dirty and the upstairs windows needed keys to open them fully of which there where non. So in the event of a fire there was no means of escape from upstairs. The back of the toilet and under the beds looked like they had not been cleaned in weeks . Contacted sally with photos and the customer service is appalling. They still have not been and done an emergency inspection or made sure there are keys for the windows, I am sure the owners of Lostrigg Cottage will be as disappointed in our experience as we where .

Customer service??
I can only agree with some of the other reviews on this site. Do not expect any refund if anything goes wrong. I arrived to a damp, cold, smelly cottage with plaster falling off the wall. I stayed one night of a long weekend. No phone signal or wifi to report the problems. I waited a month for a response that was polite and patronising advising that they had acted on my feedback. It didn't help me in any way. Bad customer service.

( …. and yes they did know the property was on the market because they told me when they cancelled the booking).
We booked a group holiday (8 adults and 7 children) for 16th August 2019 at Rosewell House. The booking was confirmed in December 2018. In April 2019 Sally’s Cottages emailed (yes emailed!) to inform us the booking had been cancelled as the property had been sold. I rang to ask what was happening and what were they doing to find us an alternative and they informed that they were aware the property was on the market but hadn’t let us know. They also advised that they were willing to help us find an alternative within their company (really kind offer) but that we would have to cover any difference (I had to check that they really said this).
I informed them that, under no circumstances whatsoever would we have considered booking Rosewell House had we known it was on the market and that, secondly, I found their response astonishing. They took no responsibility whatsoever and kept blaming the owner. I asked what measures or mechanisms were in place to protect bookings and they informed me that the owner is penalised (assume here that Sally’s Cottages pocket the penalty).
After several phone calls Rebecca (Customer Services Manager) eventually came on the phone and offered us 2 options; the first was too small (so that wouldn’t work Rebecca) and the second was an 85% increase on the original price we paid but that they were willing to offer us a 10% (£400) discount (you might spot the pattern here – profit before customer service and dignity). When I replied that the only viable option was out of our budget they were unwilling to look elsewhere.
I provided a third option, which was a property nearby with enough rooms but £300 more than the price we paid. The property was, however, with another company and, because of this they were unwilling to book it for us or forward the difference because it was “supporting the competition”. At this point they lost interest completely and said they were, however, willing to refund our deposit. By the time they had done this the property we were hoping to get with their ‘competition’ had gone. At this late stage were are unable to find somewhere within or around our budget for that many people on those dates.
I honestly couldn’t recommend Sally’s Cottages any less. Don’t take a chance with this company. They are happy to run a website and take commission all round but, when it goes wrong, they have no interest whatsoever. Appalling experience. Zero professionalism. Shame I can't record 'zero stars'.

Stayed at Applegarth cottage
Stayed at Applegarth cottage, Braithwaite in August 2017. I personally had no problems with Sallyscottages. The booking and payment process was easy and a good amount of information was supplied prior to our stay. We had no real issues with the cottage (some WiFi issues, but nothing that a power-cycle of the extender didn't resolve, and bath slip hazard in one shower-over-bath due to no mat) and so am unable to comment on how well sallyscottages or the owners themselves would have dealt with any issues. £100 deposit was promptly returned to me at the end of stay.

Sally's Cottages. Tanyard Cottage
Booked Tanyard cottage in good faith. Checked in early as had a funeral to attend. Lady cleaning property was very understanding. Stayed one night and went out the following day. Returned to a flooded property. The sink self-filled and brimmed over. Water all over benches, cooker, kettle stand and across the floor to fireplace. Sodden rug. No phone signal on my mobile so vacated the property for safety reasons and have two young kids who were agitating for food. Am told owner did attend that evening and said all was fine. However no plumber or electrician safety inspections had been undertaken. Between Sally's cottages and the owner, no offer of any refund or compromise. No complaints procedure in place it seems. Not signed up to any form of "ombudsman". Sally's say the contract is with the owner, so they claim to have done their bit ...but to no avail. I suggest to find a reputable firm who takes responsibility when things go wrong. A bit of fairness and good judgement would go along way. Never to be used again by me or anyone I can forewarn in the future. Next stop small claims court. Painful.
Cancelled our booking with four weeks to go AFTER fully paid!
We are a month away from our scheduled holiday with Sally's Cottages. Today my husband received an email saying the booking had to be cancelled because the owner of the cottage was ill and had decided to convalesce in her cottage. We were offered a refund or a choice of two cottages that no one else wanted (we have taken the refund and been lucky enough to book elsewhere).
This is disgusting practice. Of course Sally's Cottages has it written into their terms and conditions that they can cancel at any time with no penalty to them or the owner. But if we had cancelled, we would have lost our deposit of several hundred pounds! We had paid for the holiday in full: to cancel with less than a month to go for WHATEVER reason is terrible business practice. If there really was no option to use the property (if the sick owner excuse is even true), then the company should be prepared to offer compensation for the costs we would incur in having to pay for a holiday at the last minute or for the disappointment and stress it causes when a family is unable to go on a holiday that has been planned for six months. We are only VERY lucky that we were able to find somewhere that had had a cancellation the very week that we had planned to go away. And it was stressful in the meantime. Thanks a million Sally's Cottages: you may have narrowly avoided ruining my summer, but you sure as hell ruined my day.
Why should Sally's Cottages get to rake in the money when the going is good and suffer no repercussions when they screw up? Because it's always the consumer that gets done, that's why. Well that's rubbish. BUYER BEWARE: if everything goes smoothly with Sally's Cottage's, you may have a lovely holiday, but if anything goes wrong, you'll get shafted. There is no conscience or morals behind this business: steer clear.
Be aware.......
We booked through this company from Keswick.
Please be aware that they are very friendly, even polite, but if your cottage you hire doesn't turn out as expected don't expect any help, support or understanding.
Our 'let' wasn't as expected - we raised this with owner of property and then the letting agency (sallyscottages.co.uk) during our stay. We were asked to put this in writing when we returned home, which we did.
The long and short of it was that the agency washed their hands of the problem - and is still letting house. The owner of the property was not prepared to do anything either (although try to fix house for future guests).
Very frustrating and expected better.
My family will not be using this company again and we will make sure friends don't either.
