Scottish Power has, on occasions, acquired a bad reputation. I have been with them for a few years now, and, to be totally honest, they 'ain't done bad' at all. If you really do have an emergency or s... See more

This was an online interaction. I am sure if I had wanted to speak my telephone it would be different.
I was approached in the street by a Scottish Power agent who misled me about a tariff. Later that same day, I called to cancel the switch.
During that call, I was forced through three separate security checks, then pressured with marketing questions I clearly declined. When I said “just cancel the switch”, the agent replied:
“If you think this is funny, I’ll end the call and you can go through it all again.”
I complained on 29 May, outlining the threat, the misconduct, and the outcomes I expected. None were met. No apology. No accountability. No explanation.
Then on 16 June, Scottish Power closed my existing energy account without my consent and took £100 from my bank account. The agent didn’t just threaten me — he followed through by pretending to cancel the switch and letting the transfer go through anyway.
In their written response, Scottish Power spent three paragraphs explaining their security protocols — but didn’t even acknowledge the unauthorised switch or the unauthorised £100 taken from my account. They also claimed the matter was “internal” and that they cannot disclose what happened with the agent.
It is not internal.
I am the customer whose consent was ignored.
If an agent failed to cancel a transfer after I explicitly withdrew consent, that is a serious financial breach, and I am entitled to know what happened so I can take appropriate action.
Despite me stating clearly that I do not consent to phone contact and want all communication in writing, Scottish Power have continued to call me repeatedly, leave voicemails, and send bills for a final balance I do not owe. Even after they claimed the balance was removed, the calls and bills continued. This is harassment.
It has now been over a month since my original complaint. I have had to spend hours writing complaints, speaking to the bank, and trying to undo their mistakes. The stress, inconvenience, and financial impact have been significant.
Scottish Power are not cheap. They are more expensive than other providers, and the customer service is the worst I have ever experienced. Any premium you pay is completely wasted.
Avoid this company.
I have been a customer of Scottish Power since August 2021 and I won’t be leaving them any time soon. They keep in touch regularly by email giving relevant, honest, important information. They are very fair with the half price electricity and give their customers the option of choosing what times suits them the best.
This company also actively supports Cancer Research.

As we are elderly we have to make sure we are warm and comfy. I am not sure if we would be better exploring other companies. My problem is you ask for reading the week before our payments due therefore only paid two month's showing we in winter months owing money. I have taken out another contract for twelve months but you changed the payment plan I never know where I am sometimes.
My experience with Scottish Power was helpful more than I can say for their Automated system I received a message from Scottish Power to say my current tariff was about to expire and to Press the link to select a new tariff the options were not great but then I was unable to navigate my way through procedure there seem some problem recognising my Post Code and ended my call I ask my wife if she could have more success so had to give up so reached out to my daughter who is competent with computers she had more success but I was not happy with the options so today I rang Scottish Power help desk that once again rejected my Post Code but this time after a short wait an operator answered my call and was honest that other elderly people were having difficulty with the Automated system the operator was able to confirm that the option I had chosen was the best for my personal circumstances I was concerned because the option never stated that if energy prices went down what would that mean to me I was assured that if that was to happen I would be able to change to a more favable option that I accepted I advised the operator that us elderly people with no Technology skills are more tempted to go with an Energy company that has a better customer care system where real people answer the phone I realise a lot of businesses are going down this road but a lot of business could be lost by not offering a service that works for everyone.
So easy to do reading and great to get reminders of last ones
