Use any company other than this.

They are the cause of every road closure, backed up traffic and added stress for thousands of people. Stay away from them. Their ‘workers’ stand around in groups, scratching their butts and achieving very little. I can’t think of a more useless company.
‘Date of review’ - honestly, pick any day in the calendar, they’ll be cocking something up somewhere.

Stay away from SGN if you can!!!

Stay away from SGN if you can!!!

My gas safe plumber issued a certificate that is safe for the redundant pipes to be removed from the flat. On the 2nd floor, after the end of a pipe was cut, the pipe start leaking gas.

I called my plumber and he said to call SGN as they are the ONLY ones allowed to touch the gas leaking pipes, as that was an unsafe dog leg without it own shut off security valve emergency control.

I called SGN right away and they installed an emergency valve.

A week later... I received a ridiculous invoice of £1,561 to pay them for a job that supposed to be done by them in the 1st place, in order to have the property safe.

How the he'll they want the plumbers to do the work on the property if they are not able to turn off the valve that it does not exists?!

Instead of sending me a letter of appreciation for informing them that there was a fault in their main gas supply pipeline, they asked me to pay this ridiculous fee!

Also, how the hell can they charge £1,561 for job that should take no more than an hour?!

When I asked them to justify the invoice, they told me they sent 3engineers to solve the problem.

So, imagine that 3 QUALIFIED gas engineers are needed to install an emergency valve security control?!!!

My plumber would he done it himself alone in less than 30minutes.

Obviously, I did not pay the invoice and I asked to negotiate. They offered me a discount in the region of £100 that I did not accepted.

Now, they sent me a County Court letter and because of the Royal mail strike I didn't receive it and now I have issued a CCJ.

I had to pay the Court £275 to have my judgement to be set aside and to be able to fight SGN on my own.

I have also written a letter to the National Health & Safety agency to ask if the UK Law is covering my cause or not. I have to wait up to 21 working days now.

Anyway, I'll try to leave another post once I finish with the County Court.

This SGN company seem to be bullying a lot of customers, from left to right, just because they hold the monopoly over the gas pipeline in this part of UK (Essex, in my case)!

This company needs to be fined and its monopoly revisited by the appropriate state authorities, otherwise they are going to continue this "mafia style" type of services to a hard working comunity!!!

Jim was absolutely brilliant

Jim Morris was absolutely brilliant! We had a (false) carbon monoxide alarm while cooking dinner. We called the gas emergency helpline and they sent Jim around within the hour. He was delightful - a very kind, knowledgable and conscientious professional who did a very thorough job of checking our appliances (and the appliances of the flat beneath us) and left us feeling reassured and safe. Many thanks to Jim and the Gas Helpline staff.

FIRST CLASS SERVICE AND WORK…

I wanted a Gas connection to my property and firsdtly dealt with Jodie - first class communications - thank you. Mark & Tony turned up today to carry out the connection. I couldn't have asked for a better team. They were cheerful, knowledgeable and considering the heat hitting 30 degrees and excavating a very deep opening in the pavement and area outside my boundary they had to deal with extremely hard going digging. They are a good team and got on with the job leaving the area clean, tidy and safe. LKT Utilities are fortunate to have them in their employ. Very well done everyone connected to SGN.

An engineer came out within an hour of reporting a smell of gas

I had my house surveyed and the surveyor noticed a very strong smell of gas from the area of the gas meter. I reported this and an engineer, Dan, came out within the hour. He resolved the issue and advised me of the need for a carbon monoxide monitor in all rooms with a gas installation. He was efficient, informative, polite and friendly. Thank you.

Matthew was very kind and friendly; ensuring the job was done properly before leaving. Came within 30 mins and cleared all doubts of gas leak with thorough explanation. Very pleased.

I understand if someone has a gas leak…

I understand if someone has a gas leak problem you may need to work unsociable hours.
BUT WHY DO YOU NEED TO DIG UP A RESIDENTIAL ROAD FOR ROUTINE MATANANCE AT RIDICULOUS TIMES.
AREA CONED OFF ALL DAY, BUT DECIDED TO START DIGGING AT 9.40pm until 12.40am.
No thought whatsoever for resident's trying to sleep, small children woken up. Totally unbelievable.

SGN dropped the ball re disconnection…

SGN dropped the ball re disconnection appointment, they were meant to attend may 15th but did not. I complained on the 16th. Marni called on the 17th to say she would get it sorted by Friday. She rang me after 1 hour saying the team will be coming the same day to sort it; by 2pm 17th may, it was done. marni was amazing...no BS, no excuses...

For once a company who does exactly what they promised to do.

For once a company who does exactly what they promised, I had a gas leak on a Friday night in my garage and they were there within thirty minutes. Worked until 2am Saturday morning and secured the leak and fitted a new pipe. Within a couple of days my turf was relaid and my monoblock replaced. All staff courteous and polite. Top marks SGN.👍

SGN= Rip off!!

SGN= Rip off!!

I am in the process of knocking down my old cottage to build a new house. Called to ask for a disconnection at the mains and I have had a site visit to confirm "Its a 10min job" got the quote though this morning 1034.00 pounds, this is absolutely extortionate they are just turning it off not even removing the meter or any pipe work to the property.. and because they are the only company allowed to do it I have no choice but to pay!! This is a total monopoly on this market..

Official complaint lodged.

Going into week 4 now for a gas reconnection in our new home.
Initial appt 22/03/23 was discovered the engineer SGN sent couldn't do the job .

SGN assured us gas would be on for move in date 29/04/23. 1 week to go no gas therefore no heating or hot water.
Promised call backs every time we call - no-one has ever called back.

We were passed to a subcontractor who disconnected the gas but cannot reconnect it and back again to SGN.

No further forward in getting the gas reconnected.

Now lodged an official complaint and have had to contact a local MSP
Terrible customer service.
Phone lines constantly queued .

Gas rerouted - SGN were amazing

Our gas supply needed rerouted and it all came out of the blue. SGN were amazing from offering us heaters, explaining the problem in simple terms and communicating throughout. All the engineers were excellent. Especially Ross Manson, Richard Frisco, Mike Warnick and Craig Sloan. Thanks also to the gardener who made our garden look good after. All SGN employees were polite, professional, friendly and had good sense of humour - which helps when you are cut off for some time. Thanks SGN.

12 weeks ago Christmas week water…

12 weeks ago Christmas week water entered the gas main in my road, the pavement was dug up, my car was on the drive and it got obliterated with mud, I couldn't move it as the van was in the way and a massive hole. I've spoken to my the repair manager and was going to get a cheque but has never arrived. Poor customer service

thank you all from phone answers emailer drivers diggers and to gas engineers.

we had an undiscovered problem with our gas supply and it had to be turned off till problem sorted.. SGN dealt with the issue... till then I had never heard of them. people are quick to complain but only praise needed here and although the route to communication wasn't always easily discernible. once we were in system everyone did their complete best to sort issue out asap and we were reconnected within less than 24 hours though it was quite a big job that needed doing
we are all very grateful. smile on all workers faces and kindness on phone and in communications. well done SGN and big THANK YOU

Gas leak at my elderly Dads.

We had a gas leak last Friday at my elderly Dads house. He had, that day, gone into a home so potentially the house was going to be left empty for some months. At the last minute we stopped by to turn everything off and smelt gas. We called SGN at around 6pm and was told that they would be there in 30 minutes.
They were true to their word! In fact it was probably quicker.
Kevin arrived and within no time he located the problem, allayed our fears and quickly and efficiently sorted the problem.
Our day had been a fairly sad day but Kevin’s cheerful nature,confident knowledge and workmanship changed that. The leak was repaired in under an hour and we were all able to leave the house knowing it would be safe.
Huge THANK YOU to Kevin, SGN are very lucky to have you.

We had a sudden gas leak!

We had a sudden gas leak, so after turning the gas off we called SGN emergency number next to the gas meter and the engineer came out in under 5 minutes - amazing response! He was very helpful, gave friendly advice and made the place fully safe promptly. An excellent service all round.

Great Support. Yesterday my relatively new carbon…

Yesterday my relatively new carbon monoxide alarm went off, phoned SGN. I found from that initial contact, a very helpful and efficient person on the phone, then within 40mins a really patient, calm, reassuring fellow arrived. He discovered after checking everything that it was a faulty alarm!! This was in the Inverness area ( wish I had made a note of his name) and I SO appreciated all assistance given especially since I was in " panic mode!" Thank you.
