A very quick and positive response on the Customer Service Chat, which resolved my issue. Thank you

Forced to use new app but this does not have the code generator for 2 factor id for website so had to do all on the app. Website needed secret username, secret password, answer to secret question then 2factor id whereas app required only a simple PIN in order to transfer thousands of pounds. Skipton has gone from good to apalling.

Great staff at the North Berwick Branch of the Skipton.
They are very customer focused and helpful.
I am glad that the Skipton has kept their branches open.
Online banking is fine but we sometimes need to go to a branch.

The webchat worked immediately. I needed advice and information to apply for probate and all was sorted in about 5 minutes with the offer of receiving the information by mail or email. Brilliant system, thank you Skipton!

I am very frustrated as I needed to reset my password and the new app does not have the functionality to generate a secure code. The customer service agent Tony today 10 July 2026 put the phone down after 30 minutes on the phone. Not at all happy with this experience. Skipton Building Society you have not tested this new app properly and your customer service agent Tony needs further training and putting the phone down does not resolve any problems.

Trying to move an ISA from Virgin to Skipton. The Skipton online form for this simple process is next to useless. It asks for a roll or reference number. Online chat basically said not our problem - contact Virgin!! Virgin accounts have a sort code and an account number and all I needed to know is how to input this.

I used the chat method of communication and spoke to Mickey. He was very helpful

First, their complaint form said failed — one way to avoid dealing with them, I suppose.
Their new banking app is by invite‑only, and it isn’t compatible with their website (online banking). For example, if you try to move money online, the website asks for a secure pass — normally generated within the app — but the new app doesn’t support this action. Money can only be moved through the app.
After updating the app, it refused to accept either the email address or the password. Even though you verify yourself using a passport or driving licence, the system still wouldn’t work. Then, after resetting the password, it would send a temporary verification code to the registered email address, but this was never received. As a result, you can’t access the online account either.
Calling the bank didn’t help; they simply couldn’t offer any solution.
Luckily, we have a joint account, and by using the other account we were able to move the money out and closed the joint savings account.
If you have a sole account, i would be very worried about getting at your money... they are totally useless as they are unable to either reset your password or change your email address, these can only be done online using the app to confirm the change, no app, no online banking... sad.
**** Just an update after their reply. ****
I did call your so called help centre thats specifically for the new App update, thats my point, they was unable to help in any way other than expecting me to setup another saving account, then add my wife as a joint account holder.
I have lost all confidence in your app and as its been pointed out, this should have been tested and have the new website finished before rolling it out.
I have closed my account now, took my money elsewhere, there is no need for us to talk further.
All i can say is good luck to anyone opening an account with you, were you lock them out and unable to fix it.

Frustration with trying to login online and then having the account locked was really easily alleviated by Annie. She asked some challenging security measures but was very polite and helpful. The situation was resolved promptly.

Generally skipton have been a good savings provider with a good online offering. However they have recently upgraded customers to a new app which is utterly unfit for purpose, full of bugs and missing key functionality essential for operating your account. Issues like this are normally found on testing so it gives the impression that the app project has been badly mismanaged. The easiest solution would be to allow customers go back.to the excellent previous app, however they are not allowing this. I have submitted feedback and a formal complaint but have heard nothing. Talk about hero to zero in record time!

I made a withdrawal on my lifetime ISA. I dealt with a lovely lady by the name of Amelia who made the process completely seamless. Very helpful, and speedy in her responses, she made the whole experience easy 10/10 Amelia if you’re reading this 👏 all the best, Jamie

I realised I had left it a bit late to renew my ISA and then got into difficulties online. I was lucky enough to be connected to a staff member who was very helpful and patient.

I used the chat service and whether or not Amelia is a real person or a chatbot (I rather hope she is real) she was able to provide exactly the help I needed.

I am disgusted this is the second time Skipton have let me down. The first one was when I purchased my property I spent weeks moving monies so they would be ready for the completion date, only to find that they would NOT pay the solicitors as they did not have my name?! They will only release money to an account in your own name. I tried to log into the app on my new phone but received a message saying I had not completed my set up. It listed the old phone number to receive this one off code. Now I have just tried to change my telephone number online as I have a new phone/mobile number and find out that I cannot complete that either without visiting a branch with ID or writing a letter to them! I logged into my account via their website and found that out on their online chat. I am virtually housebound and live in a rural location. I am amazed they would not be able to change my telephone number despite me knowing all my log in details and security questions. If I wasn't tied in on a 3 year ISA I would have transferred my monies to a different bank/building society.
