Despite a long and complicated sale procedure the transfer of funds was completed within hours of my Bulgarian estate agent depositing the proceeds of sale with Smart. My representative kept in touch by phone regularly throughout the waiting period (proving heirs and their identities etc.,) and I was guided through the transfer quickly and clearly when the sale was complete. It was such a relief to have one less stage in the process to worry about.

I came across these guys through 'Your Overseas Home', when I was starting my property search in Portugal.
Buying a property abroad can be hugely stressful, as the process can be completely different and of course there is the additional worry of exchange rate fluctuations.
Danny helped us through the process of transferring the deposit and then fixing the rate so that when we were ready to complete, we knew exactly what we were paying. The rate offered seemed OK at the time (seemingly fairly similar to the current tourist rates), but with no additional fees on top. Although your high street bank may offer a better exchange rate, they often charge huge fees to make the transfer (which I experienced when sending a previous, smaller amount). However, the main reason for using Smart Currency Exchange was to protect us against any huge economic shocks, which we have seen in the past. Just a 1% devaluation of the £ would cost us several thousand ££'s. Of course, this could work the other way - but would you want to gamble?
The portal made things really easy to set up recipients and to check the balance (as due to constraints with our bank, we had to make frequent smaller transfers). On the completion day, everything was transferred across to our lawyer, very promptly with no issues. (I think around 24hours from the UK to Portugal)
I will continue using Smart Currency Exchange for transferring ££'s to my €€ monthly bills account. Thanks Danny!
