SpareRoom makes my role as a landlord much easier
I have used SpareRoom as my go-to platform for finding housemates and tenants over more than ten years. It always delivers a good number of genuine enquiries to each ad placed. The platform also allows the host / landlord to filter potential candidates, book viewings times and manage messages with those looking for a new place.
The support team are helpful and responsive to any queries or messages.
SpareRoom is easy to use
SpareRoom is easy to use, no fuss or undue market targeting. It's easy to browse and search. Setting up an account and creating your profile is straightforward.
Spare Room Staff are Amazing.
The Staff of Spare Room always offer polite and constructive help and I don't know how I would have managed navigating the site without their help as
I.T. is really difficult for me. Their patience and understanding is amazing.
Very straightforward process.
Easy to set up an advert. Helpful guidance on how to make a rental appealing. I received lots of responses immediately. All in all it took 4 days to secure a lodger that I feel comfortable with.

Considering this is a free option ad
Considering this is a free option ad, I found it to be very useful and efficient site. The only down side I found is that app didn’t match up with my advert.
I have recommended this service to others.

It was user-friendly and easy to search for and contact landlords, although some landlords require a premium account to send messages. Thanks.

SpareRoom Is Becoming a Marketplace for…
SpareRoom Is Becoming a Marketplace for Overcrowded Bed Spaces
SpareRoom seriously needs to get its act together. In the areas I searched, almost every advert was not for a proper room at all, but for a single bed crammed into a room with two or three complete strangers.
These listings make some properties look more like human storage facilities than homes. People are expected to pay ridiculous rent for no privacy, no personal space and potentially unsafe, overcrowded conditions.
How are these adverts being approved? Does SpareRoom properly check what is being advertised, or does it simply take the money and look the other way? Some of these arrangements raise serious concerns about occupancy limits, licensing, fire safety and basic housing standards.
A website called “SpareRoom” should advertise actual rooms—not mattresses packed together like a poultry farm. SpareRoom should stop allowing misleading bed-space adverts to flood the platform, investigate potentially overcrowded properties and remove landlords who appear to be exploiting desperate tenants.
I strongly advise users to report any suspicious or potentially overcrowded listing directly to SpareRoom and keep screenshots of the advert. If SpareRoom fails to investigate or take appropriate action, the listing should also be reported to the relevant local council’s housing enforcement or environmental health team, or any other appropriate authority.
People should not stay silent when landlords may be putting profit before tenants’ privacy, dignity and safety. This website is becoming useless for anyone looking for decent, safe and private accommodation.

Wonderful way to let or find a room
I've had two lodgers through SpareRoom and have met other lovely people who've viewed the room but didn't take it as their work plans changed.
When I had a question, it was answered promptly by the customer service team.
They post really helpful advice for prospective landlords (and no doubt for prospective tenants too) and are very aware of ensuring everyone's safety.
My daughter has also had good experiences of finding somewhere to live through SpareRoom when she needed to move to an unfamiliar area.
