Spin Cds - use Chargeback to get your money back
My experiences with Spin CDs were the same as everyone else. Years ago they were fine, but in the last couple of years, quite a few problems in them not fulfilling orders, and latterly not making any refunds or answering phone calls or emails. At the same time, continuing to solicit further orders by sending out frequent emails offering discounts. I am in no doubt that Spin knew exactly what they were doing.
This is the important bit - I got all my money back through contacting my bank ( I'd paid by Visa Debit card) and completing the Chargeback forms they emailed. It only took a couple of weeks. The Chargeback facility is also used by credit card companies. However small the amount you are out of pocket - do it! It's your hard-earned cash.
Box set preorder woes
I too have suffered from pre-ordering expensive box sets from Spin CDs only for the money to be taken at time of order placement and the order never fulfilled. On the first occasion (August 2016) I pre-ordered The Rolling Stones in Mono CD box (£99.99) and didn't realise that payment had been taken when the order remained unfulfilled over a year later. When I chased it up in October 2017 the reply from Steve Brooks was "Sorry for the delay, unfortunately we had a large amount of damaged stock that we had to return to Universal and are waiting on replacements to arrive, should be in the next few days and will forward to you asap". Needless to say it never arrived and remains unfulfilled. Having not realised that the payment had been taken, in December 2017 I pre-ordered the limited edition Average White Band vinyl set (only 500 pressed) as Spin CDs was the only UK retailer offering it after Amazon's allocation quickly sold out. Again, £54.99 taken against my credit card at time of ordering. I doubt if Spin CDs ever had an allocation because the release date in February 2018 came and went and when I chased up delivery I got the usual evasive approach from Steve Brooks saying "Apologies, currently awaiting stock from distributor. Sorry this has taken longer than anticipated, we've just moved business premises our normal frequent supply has been heavily impacted. Will ship priority when stock lands in the next few days." It never arrived, of course.
In between the placement of these orders (which are the only orders I ever placed with Spin CDs) I realised that payment had been taken at time of ordering and requested a refund for the unfulfilled Rolling Stones box set. The response was that the couldn't make a refund against my credit card because it was handled via a third party payment system but promised me a refund by cheque, which despite me chasing it up of course never arrived. Obviously fraudsters and I am just pleased that I wasn't tempted to order any of the very expensive Japanese SHM-CD box sets that they advertised as being in stock but were probably just bait to lure in higher value payments for goods that didn't exist or they would never be able to source.
Absolutely Awful - Avoid At All Costs
Absolutely awful and very sad as they used to be a great online music vendor. I'm really just reflecting the other reviews here and I'm lucky (if you can call it that) that I haven't lost a substantial amount of money, unlike some of the poor people who have written reviews. Same sorry story, placed my order in December 2016 (!!!). When I did get a response which was rare, I was initially given delayed release dates as the reason which I could accept. However, I finally ran out of patience and asked for my money back earlier this year (via e-mail as no one ever answers the phone). Despite repeated attempts and follow up e-mails, I haven't received a single response or my money back. It's been so long that the card I placed my order with has actually expired. Probably futile but I have also contacted the UK consumer affairs programme Rogue Traders/Watchdog.
One out of five stars is too much for…
One out of five stars is too much for zero reliability. Took my money, never sent me anything, never answered my emails, only once in a while a 'sorry' answer but nothing fixed. How can they get away with this? I live in Greece and don't know what to do about it, but if you live in England, you should do something.
Avoid like the plague!
Simply do not order from these people. They take your money against orders for stock that they don't actually have or cannot be certain that they ever will have. They used to be reliable but everything seems to have gone to pot over the past six months or so. For several months I have been trying to get a refund against three orders that I placed early in the year, totalling roughly £200. Now they don't even bother replying to my emails. I cannot get onto their website (it keeps showing error codes) so I imagine they have now simply taken everyone's money and have closed everything down. So, if they are still trading, avoid like the plague!
Dreadful Customer Service - Anybody know Dodds' home address
Ordered items in July and managed to get a partial refund. The order that was shipped has never been received.
The one review mentions the shareholders as David and Jane Dodds - if anybody in the Whitley Bay area knows their home address that would be useful information.
item not recieved-refund not recieved
hi, I placed various order with spin over the last 2 years, items arrived after a lot of chasing by me, ok maybe supply problems. my latest order placed a year ago, sept. 2017 has never arrived despite spin having taken the money from my account. I have been in contact with steve (spin cds) over the last year and the answer was always the same (item coming at the weekend, will send asap). I emailed steve (phone line never answered), asking for a refund £14.99. not a huge amount but my £14.99, after several emails I got a response saying "no problem-will send refund asap" steve likes the word ASAP, translated this means the item is not coming and you will not get a refund. AVOID SPIN AT ALL COSTS.
I put an order with them back in May…
I put an order with them back in May but it was never sent to me. In mid-August Steve Brooks replied to en email from me saying "Sorry for the delay, more stock arriving in the next 7-10 days so will forward asap, hope this is ok." As of mid September, no sign of order or refund.
Ripped Off
I ordered a box set from Spin Cds in March 2017. Still have not received the order. Received many emails promising it would be shipped, it was delayed etc. I am in the US and cannot get my money back from my credit card company since the company was located in the UK. I had bought items from them in the past and received them with no problem, so that is why i ordered the box set.
I'm writing on behalf of my dad
I'm writing on behalf of my dad, and like most people on here, he hasn't received his items either. So many old school, loyal customers have used this company to try and avoid Amazon but the way this guy has operated has been detrimental to all online, independent music shops.
I'm pretty sure there is a legal case to be made as Steve Brooks has broken his own contract as per stated on the website. He hasn't followed the consumer contracts regulations (formerly distance selling regulations), and he's generally been a pain for daughters chasing records up for angry, confused dad's.
Maybe, if we all club together and contact trading standards and maybe even Rogue Traders then we can get this sorted and draw a line under it. Whether it's £1 or £100 it is OUR hard earned cash, not his.
Thanks.
Beware of these crooks.
Beware of these crooks.
I have a lot of records on order since long ago and now they seem to be out of business and don’t answer e-mails anymore.
Guess I can kiss my money goodbye...
If only people were honest enough to return the money before calling it quits.
I should have seen it coming when they offered 20% off one week after another.
A sad demise of the once great Spin
Have used Spin CDs and recommended them for many years, mostly for Grateful Dead releases. Last year my few orders were taking a long time to be fulfilled, and required reminders, but did get through eventually after many months.
Not spotting the warnings across the web I placed a couple of orders on 26 Aug 2018. Having entered my card details each time the order process did go a bit weird, the screen appeared to freeze, but I did get a confirmation email each time so assumed all was ok. Obviously (having read the postings here) I've not received anything. BUT checking my visa statement online some two weeks later Spin have not taken any payment (as yet). SO if you're reading through these reviews worried about a recent order you may be OK, they might not have taken your money.
Actually I feel some sympathy for Spin. They were a brilliant source of CDs at a reasonable price for many, many years. The range of titles they sold and their website showed that they were music enthusiasts, particularly for US West Coast bands including the Dead. It's not as though they originally set out to scam people, it just sounds like events have overtaken them and they've floundered - it sounds though that they're in too deep now to turn this around.

It seems they came at the end of the line-with my 25 GBP worth unprocessed order.
Too bad, they had a lot of hard to find music there.
I don't think they are mean (or *they* are maybe just he-Mr.Steve),
just they went broke in this Amazon age.

These reviews may be less helpful now that SpinCDS.com website has been taken down.If you've already placed an order with Spin, recommend contacting your bank about fraudulent activity with this merchant. Your bank may assist in getting a refund/reimbursement.

They used to be reliable about three years ago but I encountered problems last year as they wee unable to deliver numerous items on order. I am probably owed about 110 pounds worth of orders and they don't answer Emails. Have they gone down the pan?
They owe me over £150
They owe me over £150
No customer support, only an occasional "we're sorry" email now and then.
And now it looks like they're gone.
Is it possible to get my money back somehow?
The dog ate my homework
Yes I stopped getting emails from then advertising new stuff maybe a week ago, they got 20 quid of mine but I think compared to some I got off lightly. Many years ago (12 maybe) they were a decent firm but they lost their way somewhere down the line. I tried so hard to use them but no shipping, having to constantly get in touch with them and getting fobbed off with rubbish excuses and lack of customer support meant I went elsewhere.

Web site is off-line, answer machine on 0191 2303361 states they are closed. Seems to me they have ceased trading. Have contacted my Credit Card company for refund of outstanding order.
If I could place a zero I would!
If I could place a zero I would. Paid for a box set in January 2018 and as to date 29th August still not received. I have contacted them on a couple of occasions and have been told it has not been released. My argument is - why take my money? At the beginning of August I emailed them and asked for a refund as this firm is a joke!!!! No reply and no refund. I have been onto there website, or tried, guess what it's not working. Avoid at all costs. If anyone can advise me how to get my money back i would be most grateful.
