I always gave the restaurant in Milford 5 stars - now two! Staff are great but management have made this the most UN customer friendly place to eat and the food is not great!
I must mention Helen and Shaun from Squires in Crawley. What fantastic service, so knowledgeable and helpful. It's not often these days that you receive such great customer service. Squires should be... See more

Afternoon tea
Just had afternoon with my mum...we have done for the last 3 years as she loved it.
I'm sorry to say it will probably be the last time as not only has it gone up £3 each.
No pastries,we had to share jam and cream which sounds petty but when the price has gone up so much.
Shame on you squires
3 times we have visited Squires garden…
3 times we have visited Squires garden centre in Woking where we have visited the cafe/restaurant and have to say been disappointed all 3 times! It's mainly about availablity of the menu as each time we've gone most of the food we want to order is not available! You could help Squires by informing people before they sit down that the menu advertised is not available! The last time we visited was the 23rd and basically 80% of the menu was not available. The staff don't seem to be fully up to date and seem very lacking in customer service awareness! We shall probably not visit again as once you can forgive but 3 times seems a bit too much
Terrible!!!!
My husband and I popped into squires at twickenham for lunch today. I have to say, we were terribly disappointed with both food and service.
Does anyone ever check how the customers are doing? Are they enjoying their meal? The staff just wander around in a dream! We had to request extra drinks 3 times. A nice day was spoilt by this experience.
Squires Twickenham Cafe - very disappointing
My friend and I went to Squires Twickenham for lunch today, what a disappointment.
First of all the person who came to our table to take our drinks order was underage so couldn't take the order and had to get someone else to do it.
When I ordered my drink specifically without ice it turned up with ice. My friend ordered a separate glass of ice which never showed up and had to be requested a second time.
For the food - I ordered the vegan sausage and chips. What I got was the meat sausage and mash! This was sent back and after a while the vegan version arrived - it really wasn't worth the wait. The vegan sausages were at best unpleasant and left a horrible aftertaste in my mouth. I couldn't eat them. The peas looked old, like they had been in a freezer for too long.
There was supposed to be gravy with the sausages and I specifically asked before ordering whether it was meat based - I was told no it isn't so that was fine.... except it wasn't because there was no gravy on the vegan sausages when they arrived (there was on the meat sausages that were brought out before though).
My friend's sandwich looked like it had been run over by a truck, it was so flat with almost no filling.
We asked for mayonnaise which never came and we had to ask for it again. We also asked for ketchup which came in the tiniest paper container ever seen!
We had to ask for cutlery since the staff didn't think to bring it out with our food.
Overall the service was very poor, the staff not attentive at all and even when we had their attention there was clearly miscommunication somewhere along the line between them and the kitchen.
I didn't think this cafe could go downhill much more than it has been in recent times but today's experience has put me off going there again, especially since it is in no way a budget option for lunch. Sorry Squires, you could do much better than this.
A cafe manager might improve things
On two recent occasions we've visited the cafe at West Horsley and both times there's clearly been a shortage of staff in the cafe and it wasn't even busy. The last time we went there was no member of staff on the floor to take food orders and on both occasions the food arrived hardly warm, the quality was poor and it was expensive. The cafe team need a manager to provide an overview of what is and isn't working. Really, I feel quite sorry for the staff as it appears morale is low, though I think they could still manage to be polite to customers! A miserable experience.
Awful Squires cafe in Milford
Went to Squires in Milford for a coffee and a bite to eat. We were met with dirty tables and surly staff when we asked if one could be cleared for us.
Having sat down we then found out that there is no hot food served between breakfast stopping at 11.30 and lunch starting at midday - ridiculous.
We left and found a lovely coffee shop around the corner.
Visited Crawley branch this afternoon…
Visited Crawley branch this afternoon and found the whole experience a delight. The lady behind the counter ( Sorry I didn’t get your name) was exceptional and her colleague Iffy was also extremely helpful. Now signed up with their app which gives you all sorts of benefits.
Too expensive sausage mash and peas £13…
Too expensive sausage mash and peas £13 jacket potatoes £9.50 then the order was wrong so pot off tea jacket spud sausage mash and peas total £31.50 for two person’s really 🤔 never again and it was more like a child’s size not adult. Would not rate Squires at all other garden centres that are not owned by squires the cafe part are much cheaper and cleaner! The actual garden centre itself 💯 but cafe big no never again awful. This is the Bagshot Lea at Bagshot Surrey one
Very unpleasant breakfast experience
The last time we went for breakfast at the Twickenham branch was pre-lockdown and it was lovely, especially the sausages. What a change in a few years. I ordered the avo and eggs on ciabatta. It was the oddest ciabatta I've ever seen - flat, pappy and tasteless - with a sloppy mess of 'smashed' avo on top and two hard, lukewarm poached eggs. The ham on my partner's eggs benedict was wafer thin, formed and looked as if it had been bought at the local garage. I had ordered an extra sausage. When it didn't immediately arrive I asked the waitress if it was coming. "I only have one pair of hands" she snapped and walked off. Horrible experience which we won't be repeating. When we didn't tip the waitress shouted "thank you, thank you" sarcastically after us when we left.
Bring back the old menu! Terrible breakfast
Absolutely appalling experience with the new breakfast menu at Squires Garden Centre - West Horsley. What on earth has happened? The food was dreadful—cold eggs, cold toast, greasy sausages, and overall blandness that made it feel like no thought or care was put into it. The quality was miles below what Squires used to offer, what an absolute joke.
I want to make it clear this isn’t the fault of the staff, who were polite and doing their best with what they’ve been given. This is a failure in management’s decision-making, and it’s an awful one. The new menu is a disgrace to what used to be a dependable and enjoyable breakfast experience.
Bring back the old menu! Squires used to be a highlight of my mornings, but until they fix this disaster, I won’t be returning. I’m terribly disappointed.
Miserable Experience in Stanmore Cafe
I had a miserable experience there today when I went to lunch. The new ordering system through the QR code is soulless and does not easily allow for variations to the set meals. It also means that one can't tip any more, which is a shame for the staff. When I received my food, it wasn't what I'd asked for (a toasted panini) and when I queried it, was told that my preference wasn't available so I'd been given a toasted sandwich instead. The sandwich was meagrely filled and the salad on the side tiny, just a frill.
The refurbishment and "updating" certainly haven't worked for me.
What a great experience I had along…
What a great experience I had along with my guests for our extremely tasty and pleasant Christmas lunch at the Reigate Branch this week. The staff were excellent, and great ambassadors to the company.
The full garden Centre, indeed, is a huge complement to the company. Well done.
Christmas Lunch, Squires Washington
My family and I attended Squires Garden Centre in Washington for their Christmas lunch. What an amazing experience, the Christmas lunch was first class, just perfect and I was well catered for being gluten free. The staff were welcoming, attentive, friendly and nothing was too much trouble. I can highly recommend and look forward to going back next year. The whole experience was superb.
Bring back the old menu!
Very disappointed with the new breakfast menu at Squires Reigate on Sunday 24th November. I ordered the avocado and poached egg on toast, but when it arrived the eggs were fried and there was a layer of fat from them on top of the avocado.
I was advised there was an issue with one of the rings on the hob, but they would try & do poached eggs.
Ten minutes later it came with some lovely looking poached eggs, but unfortunately they presented it on the original toast & avocado, so a) the toast was cold & soggy b) the avocado was still coated in fat and so rendered inedible. It returned for a refund & I won’t be returning again.
Unsatisfied customer of the cafe in Squires Reigate
Disappointed at the Reigate Squires cafe yesterday, Friday 22nd November. It was freezing cold everyone was still wearing their coats. We changed tables several times trying to find a bit of warmth, the radiators are inadequate for the area and were only tepid. Apparently staff were provided with electric heaters that morning but hadn't had instructions or time to do anything with them as they were so stretched having to do many tasks. It was only when we went to the managers office that they were put in use but totally inadequate to heat the area.I had phoned to book a table for us and our friends, we had both travelled a great distance to meet up at this cafe and it nearly spoilt our day but being with friends helped us to grin and bear it. One lady was serving at the counter, clearing tables and serving tables. A male member of staff in the preparation room I could see was wearing his coat whilst preparing sandwiches, how they ever got a '5' for food hygiene I will never know. Seats were dirty and stained and the whole place needs a refurbishment from what we could see. The floor was broken and had at one time been stuck with tape to prevent accidents but that had pretty much worn away. We will definitely not be going there again, however, surprisingly the fish and chips were fine thank goodness and I think this cafe definitely needs a review of health hygiene, more staff and a speedy refurbishment. If we could have gone somewhere else we would have but having travelled for 2 hrs to get there we couldn't bear the thought of trying to find somewhere else.
A really well stocked garden centre…
A really well stocked garden centre with a great cafe. The family all love spending a few hours here browsing the shop and the kids particularly love the pet shop.
Woking cafe
Woking cafe - on the 13th November, my sister and I stopped to have lunch at Squires Woking. The food was below average, very disappointing. The special of the day was over cooked, pastry was rock hard and had excess fatty content in the pie. Carrots were overcooked and dehydrated, mash was gloopy. The overall appearance of both, was that of a badly overcooked microwave meal. Only given 2 stars as my sausages weren’t as awful as the rest of the meal, otherwise it would be one star. Won’t go back again which is a shame
Poor service at Frensham cafe
Waited at entrance nearly 10 minutes. Another 15 to place an order for 3 hot drinks. After another 20 minutes, we walked out. Poorly run and managed having worked in hospitality for some time. Won’t be visiting again, they are not that cheap either. Sarah Squire needs to sort out the management teams
Review for Badshot lee branch
Review for Badshot lee branch
Really poor fish knowledge with the staff. The the skinny lad had absolutely no clue and fish introduction to tanks. When he stopped pontificating to me about fish, that's where I jumped and educated him on fish care, tank introduction and which fish can live happily together. This topic isn't subjective!
If you are going to run a tropical fish department, pay proper wages and stop employing kids that know absolutely nothing.
Stanmore 'Pets & Aquatics' section - top notch
This review is for the Stanmore branch and, in particular, the 'Pets & Aquatics' section. We've bought tropical fish from there, on and off, for a couple of years. The staff are knowledgeable and check that the fish they sell you are going to a suitable 'home' by asking pertinent questions about your aquarium set-up and existing occupants. I've kept tropical fish for over 50 years so can spot when sellers are just going 'through the motions' - these folk have been well trained and actually care! They have a good selection of fish that are very well kept. No sign of dead fish mouldering away at the bottom of their tanks, as you often see at other outlets. The fish are also more likely to be of a decent size and are offered at a very competitive price. They give a 48 hour guarantee which we have had to call upon just the once - yesterday. Being caught, transported several miles and then added to a new tank is very stressful for fish, so the occasional casualty is to be expected, unfortunately. We contacted Squire's Stanmore online, offering to send pictures of the two dead fishes (Rummy-Nose Tetras), and were promptly contacted to arrange a refund. The other ten Rummy-Noses are doing fine, you'll be glad to hear.
So, overall, it's very hard to fault Squire's Stanmore when it comes to tropical fish. Thoroughly recommended.
