Maybe I should have known better when…
Maybe I should have known better when this company's website claimed to be able to deal with amateur radio problems, but in reality does no such thing. (ps Amateur radio is NOT Radio Bristol...though some listeners may disagree with that, and rightly so)
I was assured by Mr Grace personally that the chap he was sending to me would be able to replace a cable, but instead I was faced with cro magnon man who wanted to know why HE had been sent to this job. In fact he iterated the sentiment that Mr Grace himself should deal with jobs such as this one, whereupon I thanked him for calling and said I would speak to their office. This person's surly and unhelpful attitude has not gone a long way to elevate this company's reputation, but more was to come when I telephoned the office. At least his Bull Terrier had a smile on it's face.
The first number I tried was answered by a 'Darren' who informed me that after I had requested a call from MR Grace when he was available
1. Mr Grace would NOT call me back when he was free
2. Unless I told HIM all that I had to say to Mr Grace he would not help further
3. When I insisted on leaving a message for Mr Grace, 'darren' ended the call.
I then called the office number supplied on the website and requested to leave a message for Mr Grace, whereupon the person who had answered informed me that HE was the manager NOT Dan Grace, but would not supply a name. This 'manager' continually talked over me making it impossible to explain the reason for wanting to contact Mr Grace and finally ended the call abruptly.....so much for customer service , professionalism and courtesy.
I attempted to explain why I had called but was met with the rudeness I have come to expect of 'backstreet' outfits, along with poorly trained employees, here in the southwest of England.
If this job was considered to be outside of their remit, why o why was anyone sent in the first place and has anyone, from manager to rigger, ever considered attending a customer relations improvement course ?
I do believe that there is a generous discount available for persons of a neolithic persuasion.
As an ex 20 year Royal Air Force Commissioned Officer, this display of bad manners and lack of respect is all to prevalent in today's society and I have now sourced another aerial rigging company, who after I had explained the previous debacle, assured me that the problem I had was well within the capabilities of the rigger they would send to me within 24 hours. Need I add that the person I spoke to regarding this matter was polite, factual and by the way...an ex serviceman himself !
Furthermore, as a long time council member of RSGB (radio society of Great Britain) full details of this most unpleasant, and most certainly one off, encounter will be entered into the public domain via the society's website and newsletter
Never again...better off sticking to what you know !
