Well, this is my second review. The company flagged my review for defamatory content. I was completely honest, and not rude in any way. You definitely won't have a repeat customer.

Hi,

We did not flag your review for being honest—we flagged it because it contained statements presented as fact that were not accurate, which is different from sharing an opinion.

We fully respect customers sharing their experience, but there is a difference between feedback and claims that misrepresent how our products and processes work.

Not Dormant, but Dead and Dying Plants

My organization unfortunately purchased about $1,000 of bare root and live stakes trees and shrubs from TN Nursery this spring. SIX (6) plants out of about 200 plants were viable! I have called the nursery, sent a detailed email (with supporting doc) and left a review on Trust Pilot to try and get a response and refund from this company. Except for what was basically an auto-response here asking for more info (which was provided) they have not responded whatsoever. These weren’t plants that died due to poor care on this project, or adversity after planting. These plants weren’t dormant but were plants that were dead or dying when shipped and when received. A refund is due.

This project has purchased about 2,000 plants shipped via UPS and only 18 of which had any issues. That one shipment was refunded by that nursery.

Of the numerous nurseries shipping to this restoration project TN Nursery stands out extremely negatively. In this case, they have been absolutely disreputable.

Hi,

We take claims like this very seriously, but we do need to be very clear.

We supply hundreds of government and state projects every year, including large-scale restoration jobs, and we do not receive complaints of this nature. Our plants leave our facility 100% alive and viable.

What you are describing is not consistent with how our stock is grown, handled, or shipped. If plants were removed from packaging and left out of soil, exposed, or not handled properly prior to planting, that can very quickly lead to the condition you’re describing.

Our plants are shipped bareroot and dormant, and proper handling immediately upon arrival is critical.

We are a family-owned and operated nursery, and we stand behind the quality of what we send out. Statements suggesting we shipped mass quantities of dead plants are simply not accurate.

My willows were due in early March and did not arrive until May. I don't think that drought would have affected dormant cuttings. Very disappointing. Further, I got no notice until after I called and called and tried to register a complaint. Poor response from customer service.

Hi,

We understand your frustration and we’re sorry for the delay and lack of communication.

When we mentioned drought conditions, that refers to field digging conditions, not just the plant type. Even dormant cuttings like willows must be harvested under the right conditions to avoid damage and viability issues, which is why delays can occur.

That said, we do acknowledge that communication should have been better, and we’re working to improve that during our busiest season.

We are a family-owned and operated nursery, and we take pride in sending healthy, viable stock. Reviews like this do impact small businesses like ours, and we genuinely try to do right by our customers.

Trees arrived dead

Trees arrived dead. I contacted you and you said they just needed to be put in water. No, they were dead. Then it took me a month to get you to cancel my remaining order. Horrible customer service. Horrible tree care. I wasted over $300 on you.

Reply from Tnnursery

Hi,

We’re sorry you feel this way, but we do need to clarify several important points.

Our trees are shipped bareroot and dormant, which can appear dry or lifeless at first. Placing them in water prior to planting is a standard step to rehydrate the roots, not an indication they were dead.

We do not ship dead trees, and all stock leaves our facility alive and viable.

Regarding cancellation, once an order has entered the digging and fulfillment process, it cannot always be stopped, which is why timing can affect cancellation requests.

We are a family-owned and operated nursery, and statements like this do impact small businesses like ours. We take pride in our plant care and the quality of what we send out.

we had a few sets of brown eyed susan…

I am a full-time grower. I previously left this company a positive review and patiently absorbed delays — including a month-long wait on one order and a second order placed May 14th that has still not arrived.

When I received a grouping of plants that showed absolutely no signs of growth — not one — I reported it calmly and professionally. I know the difference between slow and not viable.

Rather than address the issue, the company characterized my honest report as defamatory. Trustpilot reviewed my post and disagreed with them.

I shared my experience not to harm anyone, but because I believe honest feedback is how businesses improve. I wanted them to succeed so I can as well.

Hi,

We understand your concern and we do want to clarify.

Black-eyed Susans and many perennials are shipped bareroot and dormant, so they can look lifeless at first while establishing roots underground.

If a perennial is truly dead, it will typically be mushy or rotten—not firm and dormant. Many customers mistake dormant plants for dead when they are actually still viable.

Our 24-hour arrival policy is in place so any concerns can be reported immediately and verified at delivery, before planting or environmental factors come into play.

We are a family-owned and operated nursery, and we do not send dead plants. We follow industry standards and are transparent about what customers receive.

UPDATED: Order Received, Packed Well, All Items. 26 Days For Deliver

UPDATED: Received order. Took Stars From 2 to 4. Package packed well and received everything I ordered. Kept 1 Star off still for Shipping Delay. All else was great.

As of right now I can only rate (2 Stars) on shipping time because I have not received my items yet. Its been 22 days and Im still waiting on my items. I understand delays happen but communication would be much appreciated. I had to reach out a week or 2 ago asking statues of my order thinking maybe it just "fell between the cracks" and got overlooked. They said my order will be shipped soon. I reviewed the website and it states Orders processed will take 5-7 business days to arrive in the U.S., Overseas deliveries can take anywhere from 7-16 days. So far we're at 22 days and I am in the U.S. a few states away from TN. Honestly, Im to the point Id rather just get money back but yesterday the shipping statues on website changed to "shipping label created" so I'll just see how it goes from here. Sadly, I dont think Id do business again. Hopefully the items are healthy and in good shape when I receive them.

Reply from Tnnursery

Hi,

We’re sorry to hear this and understand your concern.

All missing items do need to be reported within our 24-hour arrival window so we can properly verify and correct any shortages while the order is still intact.

Our plants are shipped bareroot and dormant, so survival after planting can vary depending on soil, moisture, and environmental conditions.

We are a family-run nursery, and we do not intentionally short orders or send non-viable plants.

Please email help@tnnursery.net with your order details, and I’ll personally review this for you and see how we can help.

Thank you. 🌱

watch the warranty

Well I read a-lot of great reviews, but unfortunately I have to give a one star. Only one out of 4 trees and 2 shrubs actually came out of dormancy (even the extras they threw in never leafed out) You Must read the guarantee, and do not assume it is only for plants that die in a year. Like other places I’ve shopped, if the tree doesn’t come out of dormancy it is replaced with or without the extra guarantee that needs to be purchased. Since I did not purchase the guarantee I am out of luck. I won’t buy from them ever again.

Hi,

We appreciate your feedback, and you are absolutely right about one thing—reading the warranty is very important.

We clearly state that we provide a 24-hour live arrival guarantee, and that extended coverage must be purchased at checkout if you want protection beyond that window. This is because plant performance after planting depends on soil, moisture, weather, and care, which are outside of our control.

Our plants are shipped bareroot and dormant, and while many come out of dormancy, some may take longer or even not show growth until the following season, depending on conditions.

We do not operate like nurseries that build replacement costs into higher pricing—we offer lower prices with optional protection, so customers can choose what works best for them.

We are a family-run nursery, and we take pride in sending healthy, viable stock and being transparent about our policies.

If you’d like help choosing plants better suited to your conditions in the future, feel free to reach out to help@tnnursery.net.

scentless sweetshrubs

Hi,

We’re sorry to hear your disappointment and understand your concern.

Sweetshrub (Calycanthus) is typically known for its fragrance, but scent can vary depending on soil conditions, plant genetics, maturity, and even weather patterns. Some plants may produce a lighter scent, or in some cases, very little noticeable fragrance.

We do not intentionally misrepresent our plants, but natural variation can occur with living material.

We are a family-run nursery, and feedback like this does matter to us. We will review the wording on our listings to make sure expectations are as clear as possible.

If you’d like to discuss this further, please email help@tnnursery.net.

Thank you. 🌱

Hi,

We’re sorry you feel this way, but we do need to clarify a few important points.

Our plants are shipped bareroot and dormant, which means they will look like “sticks” at first. That is completely normal and how they are supposed to arrive. Many plants focus on root establishment first and may not show visible growth until later—or even the following season.

We do clearly state our 24-hour arrival policy and warranty terms, which are agreed to at checkout. These policies are in place so plant condition can be verified immediately upon delivery, not months later after environmental factors come into play.

We do not scam customers, and statements like this are not accurate. We are a family-run nursery that takes pride in sending viable plants and being transparent about expectations.

If you’d like us to review your order details, please email help@tnnursery.net.

Great product, great service

Due to drought conditions, my order was delayed. They were prompt and up front regarding the delay. When I received my order everything was packed well. I waited to write this but I am seeing fresh shoots from the roots I planted and everything looks great. Will definitely purchase from them again.

I am very pleased with my TN Nursery…

I am very pleased with my TN Nursery experience. I'm would say I am an experienced amateur with plants. But some of my plants stayed dormant a little longer than the others. I was nervous they were dead, and I hadn't purchased the plant protection. But customer service gave me detailed descriptions of the plants I ordered after I had reached out. I was so pleased with the help. Plus I felt like the prices were fair.

Terrible bare root plants and trees

Terrible bare root plants and trees, and even worse customer service. I cancelled an order in October 2025, received confirmation IN WRITING that they would cancel and refund my order, less a 5% processing charge which I willingly agreed to...to then receive only a partial refund, and a portion of the order still shipped. When I received the notification of shipment, I checked the refund amount and found it was short, so I reached out to their customer service, forwarding the confirmation I had received from their company that they would cancel. Their response was "xyz employee doesn't work here anymore, and your order already shipped. The refund will not be issued." After a few back-and-forth exchanges I decided to write it off, but feel compelled to let others know that their rating on here is NOT indicative of the service, quality of product or integrity as a business.

On top of all of that, one of the plants showed up snapped in half, anf their last response to me said I could return the plants, but I would have to cover the shipping and if they were dead on arrival they would not be refunding me. Absolute joke of a company.

Horrendous all around, take your money elsewhere, trust me.

Hi,

We’re sorry to hear your frustration, but we do need to clarify a few important points.

If an order has already entered the digging and fulfillment process, it cannot always be stopped, which is why part of your order still shipped. Once live plant material is prepared, there are real costs involved, and cancellations at that stage are limited by policy.

Regarding the refund, amounts are based on what was successfully canceled versus what had already been processed for shipment.

For plant condition, all of our stock is shipped bareroot and dormant, and minor breakage can occur in transit without affecting viability. Any shipping damage or concerns must be reported within our 24-hour arrival policy so we can properly review them.

We are a family-run nursery, and statements about integrity are not accurate. We operate under clearly stated policies that are agreed to at checkout.

Thank you. 🌱

Although my order was delayed due to unfavorable weather the trees and vines I received appeared to be healthy and ready to grow. Now that they are in the ground the grape vines are blossoming and thriving. The paw paws are not dead but are acclimating to their new home. I suspect they will take off once the weather is better and the ground warms up. Over all I am pleased with my purchases.
