A bad experience as a solo traveller!!

Normally I would book a ski holiday myself, flights, accommodation, ski hire etc... but I decided to go with Topflight this time because I thought there would be a group of Irish people at whatever hotel I was staying so I would be able to meet people. I had previously travelled with Topflight on one of the Today FM trips (2013). I did not expect that this trip would be like that but I did think, as I said, that I would meet at least a few Irish people at the hotel.

First, I have to say that the logistics at the resort were great, the transfers to and from the airport, the check-ins were all fast and efficient. Your resort manager Frank was great, giving updates etc... All of that was good. Ski hire was very quick and efficient and I had my ski pass before I reached the hotel. That was all great.

When I sat down for dinner on the first evening, I realised I was the only native English speaker staying in the hotel. Even some of the staff didn't have any English. Consequently, all of my meals were eaten alone, the other guests around me were polite but had no interest in communication. I know that's not Topflight's problem, but I'm very annoyed that Topflight didn't inform me that I was the only Topflight customer staying at the hotel and maybe reassign me to another hotel or at least given me the choice to change.

My ensuite bathroom was tiny and was in a type of attic space with sloping ceilings. I'm over 6 ft and I could not stand up straight in the shower or near the toilet. The shower consisted of a hose in a bath with no screen, so it was impossible to stop the floor from being soaked. Also in the bedroom near the bed, was a wooden block coming down from the ceiling against which I was constantly banging my head until I eventually got used to it! I asked for a change to another single room but none available.

With 2 or 3 exceptions the staff were cold and indifferent, and in one consistent case downright rude. The breakfast was very good as was the spa area, but the evening meals were bland and mediocre. Also, the dining room in the evening was run like a production line, so that as soon as one course was finished, the plate was removed and the next course was presented. They just wanted people out of there asap so that they could prepare the tables for breakfast. I had to ask for a 10 minute pause between courses, which did not go down well with the waiting staff.

In summary, I would have been better off to book the trip myself, I certainly wouldn't have had any less interaction with other people. I go to Italy in March every year as part of a group, so this was my own separate trip. I won't be booking with Topflight again if I'm going on my own.

Weather diversion accepted — lack of support and communication afterwards

We accept that weather-related flight diversions happen and that safety comes first. What was unacceptable was the lack of support, visibility, and clear communication from Topflight once the diversion occurred.

After landing in Munich in the early evening with young children and elderly family members, there was minimal staff presence and no reliable or consistent information on onward transport. We were left waiting for hours with unclear and repeatedly changing timings, leaving us unable to make informed decisions in an already stressful situation.

As a result of this uncertainty, and by approximately 22:00, our group was forced to split — with children and elderly parents travelling by taxi while other family members waited with luggage to travel by coach. Those who waited eventually boarded a coach at approximately 23:10 but did not reach the hotel until around 03:20, nearly ten hours after our plane landed in Munich. This was later characterised by Topflight Customer Services as an “excellent outcome.”

While basic meal expenses were reimbursed, no acknowledgment was given for the disruption caused or for unavoidable transport costs incurred. When we raised these concerns with customer support, we were told our account was “factually incorrect.” This arrival time has since been disputed by Topflight, despite reflecting our direct experience. Despite also being told that no other guests had raised similar concerns, multiple public reviews from guests travelling on 27 December describe very similar experiences.

During the holiday itself, guest support was largely limited to SMS/WhatsApp messages. We met our resort representative, Eimear, briefly on the first morning and again only when departing for the airport. In contrast, we observed Crystal Ski with staff physically present at our hotel each morning checking in with guests, which highlighted how unsupported we felt by comparison.

We attempted to resolve this privately but were ultimately told this was Topflight’s “final position.” Prospective customers should be aware that support during disruption may be limited. While we have enjoyed many holidays with Topflight over the years, we have noticed a gradual decline in service, and this experience has confirmed that we will not be booking with them again.

The initial disruption was caused by adverse weather, resulting in a flight diversion for safety reasons, after which onward transport was arranged for all guests as quickly as possible. Communication was provided throughout, and our duty of care was fulfilled by ensuring guests reached their resorts safely that same night. While we understand the journey was tiring, alternative travel arrangements were a personal choice and not something we were instructed to facilitate. The holiday itself proceeded as planned following arrival, and we do not believe the circumstances constitute a compensable loss of enjoyment.

Regarding your comment on the service in the resort, our resort support model is designed to allow guests to enjoy their holiday with minimal interruption, while still having direct access to their resort representative whenever needed. Eimear was available throughout your stay via her direct mobile number and WhatsApp, which we provide so guests can reach us quickly and easily at any time - a level of access many operators do not offer. While our team may not be physically present in hotels each morning, support is always on hand and we respond promptly whenever assistance is required.

Excellently organised family ski holiday

Everything was seamless. From booking to arriving in Austria. The booking system was excellent- it was possible to pre-book everything (ski school, equipment rental) very easily. Transfers, ski passes etc were all available with no problems. There was always a resort manager available for queries and she kept us well informed by WhatsApp. Sabhdnh was our contact and she was always readily available to answer any questions. Very friendly & efficient! Highly recommend booking ski holiday with Topflight.

Seemless booking and great ski experience.

Always a joy!

Easily the leading ski holiday provider from Ireland in our opinion. Excellent hotels, smooth transfers with no waiting around for other flights, and reliable Aer Lingus charters that rarely experience delays. Their resort managers are knowledgeable, helpful, and genuinely focused on the skiing rather than the nightlife. Resort managers communicate clearly and are always accessible. Our group of more than 18 has travelled with them for over 15 years, and Angela consistently provides outstanding support throughout the booking process.

Very efficient & helpful.

Topflight are not the leading Irish ski…

Topflight are not the leading Irish ski operator for nothing.
From the dedicated charter flight to the approachable and knowledgeable resort reps we had a wonderful trip.
The standard of accommodation with half board meals was exceptional.
Topflight organised our ski passes and equipment hire so we could get sking with minimum delay.
I had considered booking our group independently but delighted we went with Topflight.

The hotel was awful. Ski school was only for two hours a day.

The hotel was awful.
The food looked and tasted like it had been processed through the intestinal system of a dog. Regardless of what you ordered, the same result occured.
The room was facing a busy main road with no blackout curtains meaning that the room was brighter during the night than the day.
The tiny Sauna that was for over sixteen year olds only, was full of children while bathing suits were forbidden.
The service was poor, I waited half an hour for my main course. I actually gave up waiting and left the resturant without eating my dog processed portion.
The worst thing, which is some achievement, was how they seated men travelling alone. We were, and there were six of us, placed in bench seating along the main pathway of the resturant. This avenue of loners was a display for every guest getting their various courses. I don't mind travelling alone but I don't need to have a mirror held up to me every meal time, reminding me I am on my own. Free humiliation with every Topflight holiday!
I had to pay for a second hotel for the week because the first one was so bad.
Ski-school was only for two hours per day. There were two of us in the class and we had very different skiing abilities.

We had a fantastic ski holiday with Topflight and couldn’t be happier with the experience. From booking to arrival, everything was well organised and stress-free. The accommodation was great, transfers were smooth, and the resort staff were friendly and helpful throughout the trip.
The ski area was excellent and Topflight’s local reps were always available and approachable, making sure everything ran smoothly and that we had all the information we needed. It was clear that a lot of thought went into the planning and logistics.
Overall, a brilliant holiday and great value for money. We’d happily travel with Topflight again and would definitely recommend them to anyone planning a ski trip.
