TELEPHONE PREFERENCE SERVICE FEEDBACK:

TELEPHONE PREFERENCE SERVICE FEEDBACK:

I am growing more and more suspicious of Telephone Preference Service. Why? Let me explain.

Firstly, they will NOT act on junk calls unless we “INTERACT” with a human being. Whereas, we are always told to NEVER answer these calls as it alerts these “PESTS” that “We are there”. This will encourage MORE calls. And even if you DO report this company(S) to Telephone Preference Service, the companies concerned will only then call you from a NEW sim.

When I get a call that is NOT recognised and looks suspicious, I never answer it and ALWAYS google the number and then review it on such sites as WHO CALLED ME. But I NEVER answer them.

It sounds a bold claim but I DO believe that the Telephone Preference Service are indeed passing our numbers onto third parties in order to encourage these junk calls/texts. Are TPSONLINE “SELLING” our numbers? The fact these junk calls/texts are INCREASING makes me VERY suspicious of Telephone Preference Service. I never got any calls or texts BEFORE registering my numbers with TPSONLINE. I did this so as to sure I would NEVER get these calls. But it didn’t work.

BOTH my numbers are registered with TPSONLINE and I am sick of getting junk calls/texts. This has gotten progressively worse since registering my numbers with Telephone Preference Service. Here are a few JUNK numbers (of many) that have called and texted me). Don't answer them. 02039877703. 02922714933. Then we have LAMBOURN RACING who are texting from 07501850101. I have NEVER had any dealings with Lambourn Racing. Again, this is VERY suspicious. Why have Telephone Preference Service given my numbers to the above organisations? I have no doubt that they HAVE.

I am now going to buy two NEW sims and will NOT register them with TPSONLINE. What a joke!

TPS - complete waste of time!

This is a marketing industry funded organisation that attempts to self regulate the industry and keep away the threat of a real governmental body with real teeth. You even have to be careful when registering, they try to trick you into accepting certain types of calls. They do not investigate when you complain - because Caller ID phone numbers are completely hacked, you will not know the real number that has called you or whether overseas faked using VOIP etc. What is the chance you know the real phone number name and address of the scamming callers. Oh they don't regulate scammers anyway, they won't be fee paying members of the official club!

Some people seem a bit confused about…

Some people seem a bit confused about what TPS can actually do.
All it is, is a service that puts your number on a list that means you do not wish to receive unsolicited call. While being TPS listed makes it illegal for a UK business to call that number, it does not physically stop anyone from calling that number, from the UK or from abroad. However, it is better to have than not have, since it will filter some of those unsolicited calls. You may be getting many more otherwise.
If you receive an unsolicited call from a UK business, TPS can take action against them - however, most UK sales companies that make these calls will use fake company names. Blocking the number does very little as they are computer generated and they have hundreds at their disposal.
How do i know this? I used to work for one of these companies. They even had form for it and received a fine of £90k some years ago, but they still do it. I quit the job due to their illegal business practices and reported them to Ofcom, but even they could do little, since it's difficult to find solid evidence.
Quite frankly, the law needs to change, but too many people in power are making money from it, so blame our corrupt government. TPS aren't able to do anything about that unfortunately.

TPS need better scrutiny

TPS needs better scrutiny.

Its almost useless in my experience. Complex to use and hard to manage all the areas, no simple click in and out. Awful! Phones could have a button for any unwanted calls. Immediate tracing, or the call cant be put through. TPS is unfit for purpose.

I don't understand why there are so…

I don't understand why there are so many negative reviews regarding this service. I have an ex directory telephone number and was getting at least 6/7 spam calls a week and usually starting at 8am in the morning which in itself was a pain in the backside, now it's down to 1 or 2 a month. I noticed the difference straight away and the only ones I have had lately claim to be from virgin media which is a red flag immediately as I don't subscribe to them.

They don't stop nuisance calls

They aren't much help, last time I rang them the girl was too bored to write down the nuisance callers phone number and asked me to put it in an email.
On the plus side it's probably a good place to get a job if you like playing solitaire or looking out of the window all day.

Useless service. Registered by home phone number 2 years ago. I'm getting daily cold calls for someone that hasn't lived at this address for at least 10 years. The law needs changing and the TPS needs to be shut down. Utterly useless service.

We're getting MORE calls now than ever

We're getting MORE calls now than ever. Reporting is tiresome and not clear. If you put SCAM it directs you to the police but the police direct you back to TPS.
When you do report something they may investigate but something needs to be set up to stop scam calling.

Totally pointless service

Totally pointless service. As far as I can tell with the amount of nuisance calls I get from call centres, all these so called marketing companies just ignore the TPS without any fear of action being taken against them. Why spend tax payers money on a totally useless service that would appear to do nothing.
