Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 871 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many customers expressed significant dissatisfaction with the service, finding it unreliable and poorly organized, especially regarding booking processes and managing flight changes. Reviewers frequently reported issues with customer service, describing it as unhelpful, unresponsive, and difficult to reach a real person, often encountering staff who lacked empathy or proper communication skills. The ground staff and overall organization at the airport were also a major point of contention, with many experiencing chaos during boarding and a lack of assistance, particularly for those needing special accommodations. However, some people mentioned positive aspects, such as good in-flight entertainment, meals, and the professionalism of the cabin crew, with a few even having excellent experiences on multiple flights. Despite these positive notes, the overall sentiment points to significant inconsistencies in service quality and a general feeling of being undervalued as a customer.

Hidden Fees and Payment Errors -Very Disappointing Experience

Charging €35 per seat on every flight segment — especially when traveling with two young children — is unacceptable. This is nothing less than a hidden fee disguised as an optional service. Families should not be put in a position where they have to pay extra just to ensure that young children can sit next to their parent.

This policy shows a complete lack of consideration for passengers and creates frustration rather than trust. It leaves a very negative impression and seriously undermines confidence in your airline.

Additionally, when paying via Apple Pay, the system shows an error (“payment not completed”), yet the money is still charged and the ticket is issued by email. This creates confusion and leaves customers uncertain about whether the transaction was successful, which is highly unprofessional and concerning.

Extremely distressing experience .....

I had an extremely distressing experience regarding my daughter’s flight on 14 March 2026 from Tunis → Istanbul → Jeddah booked through Almosafer and operated by Turkish Airlines.

My daughter is a legal resident of Saudi Arabia travelling to her country of residence to reunite with her family for Eid Al-Fitr. All documents were checked and accepted at the departure airport in Tunis. Her boarding passes were issued and the system confirmed APIS OK / ADC OK, meaning her travel documents were valid.

However, during transit in Istanbul, she was suddenly denied boarding for alleged visa issues, despite the fact that her re-entry visa was still valid on the day of travel (14 March). When airline staff requested that the visa be extended, the extension was completed immediately through the Saudi system — which would not have been possible if the residence permit were invalid.

After the visa extension was successfully completed, instead of allowing her to board or providing a reasonable alternative flight, additional and inconsistent reasons were raised, including passport validity concerns and even a claim that the flight had become full.

As a result, she was left stranded alone in transit and we were forced to purchase another ticket , not even directly to the original destination.

The situation caused significant stress and unnecessary financial loss. The handling of the case was unprofessional, inconsistent, and lacking empathy, especially considering the passenger was travelling alone to reunite with her family for an important religious holiday.

We contacted Almosafer and Turkish Airlines multiple times but received repeated rejections without proper consideration of the full timeline and documented evidence.

We hope this review encourages both companies to:
* review their procedures regarding transit passengers
* ensure consistent communication
* take responsibility when errors occur
* provide fair compensation when passengers incur unjustified costs

Based on this experience, we cannot recommend this service and will be sharing our experience publicly so other travelers can be aware.

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER

WORST EXPERIENCE EVER - Medical Emergency Ignored, Charged $1,710.92, Unprofessional Staff
As a formerly loyal customer who actively promoted Turkish Airlines, I am absolutely devastated by the treatment I received. What should have been a straightforward journey turned into a nightmare of incompetence, unprofessional conduct, and outrageous overcharges.
THE ORDEAL:
On December 2, 2025, I suffered severe food poisoning requiring medical attention. Despite being physically compromised and seeking help at Cairo Airport, Turkish Airlines provided ZERO assistance. Their office was closed, and when an employee finally appeared after 90 minutes, I was told to call an international number at MY expense to rebook.
FIRST ROBBERY: $1,482.32
Forced to pay $1,482.32 for business class upgrade while sick and desperate. I was told I could make future changes WITHOUT PENALTY. This was a LIE.
UNPROFESSIONAL ISTANBUL GATE AGENT:
After a 20-hour layover and a last-minute gate change requiring 30+ minutes of running across the airport, I arrived 30 MINUTES before departure. The gate agent refused to let me board while I was literally taking my ID from my wallet. She was COLD, DISMISSIVE, and THREW my passport on the counter. No compassion for a sick passenger who had already paid $1,482.32.
SECOND ROBBERY: $228.60
Help desk agent couldn't process my Miles & Smiles ticket (!!!). Made me call ANOTHER international number on MY phone. Charged ANOTHER $228.60 despite being promised no penalty fees.
TOTAL OVERCHARGE: $1,710.92
IGNORED COMPLAINTS:
Filed detailed formal complaints. Received a TEMPLATE LETTER that ignored:
• My medical emergency
• Unprofessional gate agent conduct
• False information about penalty-free changes
• $1,710.92 in excessive charges
Just cited "fare rules" and denied everything. ZERO accountability.
WHAT I WITNESSED:
• Gates staying open 30+ minutes past the "20-minute rule" on OTHER flights
• Inconsistent policy enforcement
• Ground staff with NO authority to help
• Help desk unable to process legitimate ticket types
BOTTOM LINE:
This is NOT a "world-class airline." This is a company that:
✗ Abandons sick passengers
✗ Trains staff to be cold and unprofessional
✗ Lies about fees and penalties
✗ Overcharges desperate passengers
✗ Ignores legitimate complaints
I have filed formal complaints with the U.S. Department of Transportation and Better Business Bureau. AVOID TURKISH AIRLINES unless you want to be treated like garbage and robbed in the process.

Delayed baggage, delayed flight, lost transit connection, bad reallocation, rude care center staff in Istanbul

I had a flight on Turkish Airlines from Cairo to Houston connecting in Istanbul ( TK 691 &TK033 on 26th March)but the bag didn’t arrive and delayed to be delivered to my temporary address in New Orleans for 2 days.

My return flight was in 31 March from Chicago ((TK 186) that was delayed for 45 minutes so I lost the connection to Cairo ( TK 690) that was supposed to be at 6:45 AM so they re-scheduled me to a late flight at 9:45 PM (TK686) with more than 15 hours transit. I went to their care center in the airport to reallocate to an earlier flight because of my important commitments in Cairo but the representative agent did 3 mistakes:

- lied because she told me that the earlier flights are full which is wrong as I checked. The cause is that these 2 flights are operated by EgyptAir which will cost them and they prefer to bother their customers by waiting for more than 15 hours missing their commitments at their final destination than paying for their mistakes to their partners.
- the agent preferred to lie rather than discussing the actual cause of not booking on EgyptAir through their shared code.
- they refused to give me a hotel voucher despite this long transit.

So, I strongly disrecommend Turkish Airlines

Didn't get the service I paid for

I flew from Phuket to Istanbul and selected extra leg room seats through the website and paid additional for these. I got on the plane to find they were not extra leg room just standard seats.
Upon my return home I complained to Turkish airlines about this and requested a refund for the additional money I had paid for the seat upgrade I had not received. The customer service replied and said I sat in the seat I chose so no refund. They dont understand they lied on website and charged me for a service I never received. I will be requesting a charge back through my credit card.

Unexceptable service, and fraud

This going to be long but please read so you don't get into the same situation as I did. I am so disappointed with this airline. We have used Turkish airlines for as long as I can remember. My experiences were amazing, and I couldn't stop bragging about them to anyone who wanted to travel overseas. Unfortunately this last flight reservation has cost me $800. US dollars. Needed to cancel a flight for this past January, I hade one year to exchange with paying the difference of course. Called this month (March) to book a new ticket, customer service found my info with the reservation code, and the name given to him, also found the available dates that I needed and quoted me the difference in price. Waited for the confirmation email. I did not receive it. Next day I called there was no file on record not with the reservation code or name. Excuse after excuses were given, went crazy when one of the excuses given was they couldn't find the verification code because the supervisor said it expired. How stupid did they think I was. I had one year to select a different date, the rep who swindled my ticket found all my info, gave me a price quote and did all this with the reservation code I gave him, but at the end he erased any trace of my info, even though I told the current rep that I had the email from the booking from the beginning date. What made it worse was that he laughed at me on the phone while I was at a loss on what to do. If Im not mistaken his name was Kenan or something like that. Your customer service reps need better manners, and your supervisors should have better knowledge of your rules!!!
THANK YOU TURKISH AIRLINES FOR NOTHING!!!!!!!!!

Bad costumer service

I payed an extra fee to be able to change my flight ticket. This wasn’t manageable online so I had to call the costumer service. They didn’t understand English properly and they couldn’t find my booking even though I gave them my flight number and full name. I spend a long time spelling my name phonetically, maybe around 10 times.
I am extra frustrated, because I had many problems with the same company last year where they ended up canceling my ticket without giving me a new ticket as promised or even giving me a refund. So all in all they stole my money and they deliver very bad costumer service.

Paid Seats Selection not been arranged and No Money Back As Well

I paid tickets with paid seat selection for my family trip in Dec 2025, they changed the air flight from Birmingham to Istanbul and Istanbul to Birmingham, so my paid seats were no longer available.
So, when I ask them to have my money back (paid seats), they just keep pissing me and require me to submit irrelevant information and certificate to prove who I am and collect my wife's consent to on her behalf to carry out the claim?

Definitely this company is annoying while you are getting money back from them. So, bear in mind and never upgrade your tickets because they do not allow customer to do so.
It is just wasting time, as I am being playing around for 4 months ~ :(

Turkish Airlines disappointing experience…

I had a very disappointing experience with Turkish Airlines regarding ticket change policies.

We specifically purchased refundable and changeable tickets, paying a premium for flexibility. However, when we needed to change our return date, we were charged nearly $800 for two tickets, which was explained as a “fare difference.”

The issue is that we checked comparable flights at the time of the change, and the pricing did not justify such a large difference. It felt excessive and inconsistent with what was actually available, raising serious concerns about transparency.

This creates two major problems:
• We effectively paid extra upfront for flexibility that wasn’t honored in practice
• We were then charged what appears to be an inflated “price difference” on top of that

The overall experience feels misleading and unfair, as if customers are being double-charged — once for flexible tickets, and again through unclear and possibly inflated change costs.

I would strongly recommend that customers compare with other airlines before booking, as fares may appear cheaper upfront but can end up costing significantly more after changes. In our case, what initially seemed like a competitive option turned out to be more expensive overall.

Customer service is horrible especially…

Customer service is horrible especially in JFK. I couldn’t believe what I was witnessing the workers have no idea what to do or how to do their job. They re charged my card for over 3K when I already had paid my ticket. No use to calling their customer service landline they’re no help whatsoever. Write a complaint form all you want nobody will get back to you. And I keep calling they give you the run around. Is absolutely ridiculous and I do not recommend anyone book with Turkish airlines save yourself the hassle! Horrible experience and the front desk agents in fjk are a joke . The one lady was on the phone with her husband and had their kid sitting on the desk as the line is long and she’s not helping any of us. I can keep going but I think you all get the idea here. I hope this helps someone.

Meaningless customer service

I rarely leave reviews, but this experience has been so frustrating that I feel compelled to share it—politely, but honestly.

We had valid tickets booked, yet our initial flight was cancelled. What made matters significantly worse was that the Turkish Airlines office was completely unresponsive during this time. With no assistance or guidance, we were left with no choice but to purchase entirely new tickets at our own expense just to get ourselves to Istanbul, where our connecting flight was scheduled.

Upon arrival, we expected at least some level of support or accommodation given the circumstances. Instead, we were told that our original tickets for the connecting flight were no longer valid and that we would have to purchase new tickets for the exact same flight—despite it being only 10 hours later. The price? An astonishing amount exceeding £1000.

This situation was not only stressful but also felt extremely unfair. We did everything we could to manage a problem that was not of our making, yet received no meaningful help at any stage.

Now, three months later, we are still waiting for a refund, with no resolution in sight. The lack of communication, accountability, and customer care has been deeply disappointing.

I sincerely hope no one else has to go through such an experience.

Duplicate charges, misleading disclosures, and no refund - a clear breach of EU consumer law

I am a Dublin based passenger who recently changed only my return flight with Turkish Airlines via turkishairlines.com. Despite changing only the return leg, Turkish Airlines charged me twice for pet transportation on my outbound flight TK1976 which is a flight that was not changed in any way. Seat selection fees were also applied again despite their call centre explicitly telling me I would not be charged. I was never clearly informed before the change that all pet fees would be forfeited and recharged. A warning pop-up appeared only after I had already selected my new flight, buried within a complex date based exception structure rather than a clear statement that pet fees are non-refundable. This ambiguous and untimely disclosure does not meet pre-contractual transparency requirements under EU Consumer Rights Directive 2011/83/EU. Furthermore, their system applied pet fee cancellation to all flights including the unchanged outbound leg, while correctly applying a flight-specific rule for seat fees which is a deliberate asymmetry in their own disclosure that constitutes a misleading commercial practice under EU Unfair Commercial Practices Directive 2005/29/EC. Total unjustified charges exceed TRY 24,000. I have submitted a formal complaint to Turkish Airlines with full documentation. If not resolved within 7 days, I will escalate to the Commission for Aviation Regulation Ireland, the European Consumer Centre Ireland, and the CCPC Ireland. This is not a policy disagreement and it is a violation of EU consumer law applicable to all flights departing from EU airports.

What an absolutely disasterous experience!

What an absolutely disasterous and unpleasant experience we had with Turkish Airlines...
We were flying from Kenya to Istanbul in business class. We specifically chose and paid significantly more for that particular flight because it was supposed to have FULLY FLAT, LIE-FLAT SEATS that convert into a proper bed. This was extremely important to me, as I have very sensitive joints and veins and cannot remain in a seated position for long periods.
However, upon arrival at the airport, we were told that their system had somehow “failed to check us in” (we did everything right, it was their fault), and the flight was already full. We were offered a flight the next day, with no real alternative, so we had no choice but to accept.
The next day, we boarded the plane — only to discover that it was an old aircraft, and even the business class seats DID NOT RECLINE AT ALL. I am attaching a photo of what they call the “maximum reclining position”… it’s unbelievable.
We had to endure 8 hours of pure discomfort and suffering — severe joint and back pain, swollen legs, and absolutely no sleep (it was a night flight). This is nothing short of inhumane, especially considering the extremely high price we paid specifically for a completely different level of comfort.
It took me an entire week to recover and for my body to stop hurting.
This is not an airline — this is a disaster. Not only did they fail to deliver what we paid for, but they also did not offer any compensation for the inconvenience, nor did they cover the hotel for the additional night we were forced to stay.
I would not recommend these scammers to anyone.
