Review summary

Created with AI, based on recent reviews

Considering 89 reviews, most reviewers were let down by their experience overall. Many people were dissatisfied with the customer service, finding it unhelpful and difficult to reach a real person, often being ignored or receiving aggressive responses. Customers frequently reported issues with staff professionalism, noting that representatives were often rude, unresponsive, and seemed uninterested in providing support, sometimes even blaming members for their problems. Many felt abandoned when they needed help, despite paying for years, and found that their grievances were dismissed or not addressed, leading to a perception that the service was a waste of time. However, some customers were satisfied with the service, highlighting specific representatives who provided excellent guidance, support, and professionalism during difficult times, ensuring timely completion of paperwork and effective representation. A few other people also felt that certain staff members were very helpful in resolving membership issues or assisting with pay disputes, appreciating their clear communication and dedication.

Waste of time.

Absolutely useless, no help from them, I've sent several emails NOT ONE REPLY I got read receipts to prove they were read!

I worked for a company i'll refer it here as the contractor for a major Rail company we've all heard about it in the news in East Midlands for the past 2 years. They were saying oh we will raise it with the rail company procurement twice = NEVER HAPPENED, they are not interested in the little people, the company I worked for had contracts with other big players and we have a whole host of people in massive mess that this union don't give a damn about! Safety issues with the contractor they should be kicked off the contracts they have, the contractor is hiding it all.

As for treatment of the workers by the contractor we have been left in a mess with HMRC whom had difficulty believing it despite the overwhelming paper evidence people are presenting, apparantly they are now investigating the contractor; but we won't hear the outcome.

I'm going to cancel subscription and go with another union. I hope I treated better there!

1star became zero isn't an option.

I have to give one star because otherwise I can't leave a message.

Useless take a three week Christmas break leaving me hanging and holding off my employers. Then claim they can't help me because Iam a night worker.

I've been a member for 5 years, and for the last three years since I've worked night I've clearly pumped money into a service that won't do anything.

Always quick to call on private number and "Offer" if you can call it that advice, but frankly, don't bother.

Useless waste of space.

In all honesty they’re deplorable, the rep unsupportive.
When your disciplinary is being over seen by a man that’s directly affected by the out come, brings ridiculous evidence to a hearing that should be provided before you know you’re being stitched up.

Unite will not return your call you will get no assistance.

Don’t mention the 29million Unite hotel in Birmingham that cost members 112 million to build.

Stay clear, very clear

I was lied to for more than a year by my union rep at work, when I put in a grievance, naturally the union sided with their rep, even though I paid my fees for 36 months and kept asking the same question every couple of weeks for 14 months, I believe I was paying for a service that I didnt receive, text book FRAUD! All this is factual and I wouldn’t join this union again if I had a gun to my head

Absolutely disgraceful tin pot outfit!

Absolutely disgraceful tin pot outfit!
Been a member, paying monthly for over a year.
First time ive needed to contact them today for support and advice around an employment matter and i first got put through to a Newcastle agent on the 0800 number. I had to go through and explain all of my story. The advisor told me because of my long history with them i was entitled to all sorts of benefits and legal assistance and cover, only to then put me through to their awful Cambridge office, (even though im based in the West Mids), where someone called Arthur there took my call. He was unhelpful and defensive from the off, and i had to re-tell my story all over again to him for him to tell me im actually just on their 'basic' package (which apparently isn't offered anymore) so i get nothing for my money other than a 'potential' chat with one of their non-legal 'officers' to give me advice on potential options (no more or less than i could have got myself or from ACAS!!) And... Furthermore..... once he'd made me tell my whole story to him he went on to tell me how he'll 'pass the info onto one of their officers to get in touch. However he quickly went in to mentiin that their 'officer' is on leave so others picking up his work load and they SHOULD call me in 48 hours but if they dont my only option is to chase them again with a call, or raise a complaint!!!! No guarantees of any support, at any level, even if i was to upgrade (and if i did it wouldnt guarantee my current issue would be able be catered for so soon under legal rep) so all in all a total scam, and my money might as well have been going down the drain!! No apology or accountability, and im left no better off after having contacted them.

Absolute con artists!!!! I shall certainly be looking to move to PROPER union and cancel asap with these, or not subscribe to one at all. Would not recommend Unite the Uniin to anyone!!

very disappointed in the conduct of this mob …

very disappointed in the conduct of this union to say the least. I am a member I have been told and reviewing the information I have on how they communicate with it's members is what I have come to expect the lack of transparency and the threat that you need to take legal action that can cost excess of thousands they leave you waiting and they know fine well the good people fear this type of action to their suppose alies if this is your support then your in a very dark corner. I begrudge this one star but I don't think I can leave no stars this will not be the last you hear of me I am from scotland and have a big mouth and will not hold my tongue i look forward to any voting of these people in power who are suppose to represent us at the very least your communication should be priority not putting up a brick wall as walls will fall

I’d give zero stars if I could

I’d give zero stars if I could.

Been a member for almost two decades. The service used to be impeccable and the support was phenomenal a decade ago. Since then, service has gone downhill but subscription costs increase. Minimal “support” (just empty emails really, not much support at all) from reps, managers are rude and do not encourage reps to respond in timely manner but still expect you to pay the ever-increasing subs.

Do not trust them, you’d be better off relying on ACAS and/or on your own. Absolute shambles.

My Experance

I cannot comment on statements below but can only say my experance. I was a paid member of the union but they left me on my own. I ended up doing all of the work to the point of someone asking what are they doing and whay are you paying them. I cancelled and payment as it was a valid question.

Awful

Awful - unless you belong to a large far left political organisation they will take your money and not help you.

I was pushed out of a job 2 years ago, I had worked there for 3 years in a leadership role and when they wanted to make cuts they made my working conditions so bad that I was forced to leave.

When things got bad I joined the union to try to protect myself, family and mortgage.

When I contacted my local rep who was very difficult to get hold of I was told that he’s too busy dealing with the NHS and if I wasn’t happy I should find a new job.

If I could give zero I would

If I could give zero I would. Avoid at all costs especially anyone connected with the Birmingham office. Waste of money and time. Awful communication skills I had a work disciplinary and I rearranged twice for my union to come in and they still didn’t come in. The worst part about it was on Friday I sent the email to notify the meeting time place etc, they said it’s in the officers diary and after that absolutely no communication before the scheduled meeting to point where I had to ring and email on morning of the day of the meeting which took place as I double check everything and I find out around 11am he’s not coming in he’s very unwell when just about 930 before they stated he will contact you and from the same office they didn’t state he was off sick when in the past they have said he’s on holiday etc. My fellow colleagues cancelled their membership with them down to poor treatment I have received and fear the union will screw over them if they were needed any help or representation

I was paying the union for 4 years

I was paying the union for 4 years. Always thinking it was better safe than sorry to have this, in case I have some issues at work and need an advice or representation. Recently I had been made redundant and as this was my first time in this situation I thought it's the right time to get in touch with Unite. I've asked them for an advice on redundancy and standard process or and if it would have been at all possible to come and represent me or even just call me when possible to discuss this further. After sending few emails and not receiving any response for several days, and my meetings going through, I have decided this was useless, as I have not been given any service promised. Only when I cancelled has someone contacted me, and it was pretty much within few hours... To ask why, when I gave my reason that was it. No further response to apologise for this or anything at all. This was a total waste of money for 4 years.

I have been a member for years but…

I have been a member at Unite The Union for years but luckily never had the need to require their assistance. However, recently I had to call on Unite the Union when I was given notice by my employer that I will be made redundant. Andrena was a massive help and attended the initial consultation meeting. She was there to offer advice over the phone and I strongly believe her involvement led my employer to offer me the redundancy terms that I was seeking.
