Really poor service / no replies to email.

Really poor service. My item was a second, ex display when sold as new, further damaged in transit. I phoned up, and was told to write in with pictures. No reply to my email. Further email sent a week later, still no reply. Nothing at all. So had to resolve with credit card company. Not what I expected from fancy website, and upscale goods.

Van Hage want £90 to cover return cost of a £179 item.

I bought a parasol from Van Hage for £179. I used the measurements listed in their description, which was minimal. However, not all the measurements were listed, so it was difficult to get a full interpretation of the size of the parasol. The item arrived and I had to carry it from the wagon off the road into the house. The delivery man wasn't allowed to carry it. I had planned to put it up at the weekend, but ended up in hospital with heart failure for 2 weeks. After a week out of hospital I thought I'd have a look. I worked out that fully opened the parasol was 7cm too big from my gutter to the underside of the parasol. This measurement wasn't shown within their description. I emailed Van Hage to ask about a return. They said I would need to pay £90 for them to pickup. This is an absolute joke. Hence, why I'm letting people know. Don't buy from Van Hage.

Great experience. Concerns from other reviews unfounded in my purchase

They really went beyond my expectations and the bad reviews for VH from my experience appear unwarranted. Now that I look back at the ones I read they mainly centred on a cafe. I bought 2 cocoon hanging chairs and covers which were over £1000 online.
It was a really hard decision given the poor reviews but after talking to customer service was reassured by Louise that the company honoured an ethos of giving good customer experiences and if something were to go wrong it would be rectified reasonably.
Sadly there was an issue with the delivery but when contacted Louise was sympathetic and proactive. All matters were resolved promptly and courteously.
The egg chairs are in pride of place and I am a very happy customer.
It sounds from my review that I could almost be a fake review but I believe that when something is better than you anticipated it should be recognised.
Also the price was the best we found and when another supplier was asked if they would price match they replied they couldn’t.
So thank you Louise and Van Hage. You have a returning customer and a vocal supporter for your after sales service

This Garden centre deserves to go bust

This Garden centre has hardly any staff - they never answer the phone and seem to do all they can to hide from customers rather than help....
...The Peterborough branch has gone down hill from the day it opened years ago and has less and less stock - they may believe that its because there isnt much demand but Springfield, Baytree, Notcutts and Dobbies all do well locally - the reason Van Hage are going bust is because they have hardly any staff and the ones they do have are S****

Awful cafe experience

Awful cafe experience, would give 0 stars if I could. £25 for 2 baguettes and a toastie. Told was no hot food because they had no gas (suspicious). Baguettes were hard and the filling was tasteless, we left most of them. Will never go back to Van Hage again. Expensive, tasteless, rubbish service and lousy food to choose from. DON’T GO THERE.

Honestly the WORST cafe experience I've ever had. Hardly any food to chose from, so I settled for a toastie which they charged £5.99 for, and it was awful! I know I'll certainly never go here again.

DONT BOTHER

Only wish I had read all the reviews before purchasing. Ordered a large item online for a gift. It arrived ok. Then unpacked to inspect that it was all ok before giving it to my recipient. It had multiple scratches on it where it couldn’t even be disguised. So arranged with them to send back, and they would arrange a replacement to be sent. Fast forward 2 weeks and they have received my faulty item back.(I checked tracking). But there has been no correspondence from them at all. So I phone..again..and again. When I’m assured someone will get back to me either by email or phone. I may as well let you finish in the ‘blanks’ here. As in the end I’ve had to ask for a refund. Chances are you can fill the blanks in on that as well. Dire tedious customer service. Think twice.

Visited the cafe 30/10/21

Visited the cafe 30/10/21 - staff were wonderful, very polite and friendly, altho seemed stressed serving food. 5***** for them!

BUT….. omg the food was awful! Bill came to over £22 for two baguettes (tuna and egg) two small plates of chips and one bottle of water?!?!?! SHOCKED!!
The rolls…..filling ok-ish, no butter on hard baguette, the bread tasted old, was hard, clearly was a cheap poor quality roll, no squidge to it at all? I took one side away which made it easier to eat with tuna on top. The chips!!!! Overdone, dry, tasted like cardboard, not hot. Quality of food was well below standard for the price!
Will never eat there again 😳😖😖

Again staff were very friendly and trying they’re best in what seems like a stressed area of work, lack of quality serving hot area, no menu board up so didn’t know what was on offer? Grabbed a bottle of water as queue for paying was also ladies doing hot drinks!? ((Lovely lady took us to another till to pay)) the hot drink area and till was very tiny not a fit area for two ladies to work together??

Felt sorry for the staff tbh!!

DONT EAT THERE -FOOD RANK-BUT STAFF ARE LOVELY

Disappointed

Decided on a trip out to our garden centre of choice, being Vanhages Gt Amwell, despite living in Stevenage. Usually shop indoors then go outside for garden items and a cafe visit. After a long absence due to pandemic and illness we were happily browsing inside when we were unceremoniously turfed out…like the great unwashed, because we had our dog! Apparently no longer welcome despite him being well behaved and never ever a problem. So the £30 item I was about to pay for was speedily returned to the rack and we all left…never to return. Seems they do not value their customers and even if we could we would not return, they will not be forgiven. Also seems from other reviewers that cafe, customer service and quality have all gone down hill. What a shame, we really enjoyed a visit and often spent more than planned…hey, your loss!

If you pay by cash keep that receipt for 5years

I purchased two Acers along with quite a few other items from Van Hages, one of the Acers is looking unhealthy so I return it, as per their guarantee (we are so confident of the quality of our plants we are happy to offer a no-quibble 5-year guarantee on all our hardy nursery stock). Unfortunately I did not have a receipt but it was still in the pot and Van Hage labels attached. Customer services was highly embarrassing and I felt I was under interrogation for a £24.99p plant. I showed a transaction from my bank statement but this was not the receipt, I therefore believe I paid cash, but no receipt no exchange, it was a total awful experience and I now feel sick to my stomach that I have pretty much been accused of lying. For someone who suffers with anxiety I found it horrific.

Poor customer service

I had a credit voucher to spend from a broken frame on a picture that my friend bought for me.
We drove 30 minutes to be told that I could no longer take my very well behaved chiauhua in, even though he is either carried or sits on a blanket in the trolley.
The manager continued to humiliate me until I left with no plants! He expected me to send my 83 yr old mum outside to sit with my chiauhua while I chose my plants, even though I suggested it wasn't a good idea with the current dog stealing climate..he said it wasn't his problem!!
I left extremely upset & wasn't given a valid reason for this change of policy.
On this occasion I feel he could have accompanied me round the centre to choose my plants as a good will gesture, but I was told under no circumstances would I be served while I had my chiauhua with me!

Shocking Service

Ordered and paid via click and collect. Email received the following day stating that items were no longer available and that a refund would be issued in 3-5 days. Called customer service after 6 days and they said that they had missed our refund. Very quick to take your money but very reluctant to give it back. I also called customer services regarding their click and collect process explaining to them that when items are ordered and paid for then they should be reserved and set aside for collection. It would appear that they just continue selling the item in store and then if there are any left at the end of the day they will reserve for your collection. Also still waiting for a call back from customer services manager after 5 days, but I am not holding my breath. I will be going elsewhere in future.
