Service department is a joke

I contacted Vic Young South Shields regarding a software issue on my 4-week-old MG HS. I was told by Charlene in the service department that I would have to pay £85 to have it inspected, as it may not be covered under warranty, and that I should take it back to the branch where I purchased it.

I found her attitude to be rude and disrespectful throughout the conversation. Based on my experience, I would advise others to think carefully before using this branch.

Worst experience ever

This dealership has given me one of the worst buying experiences I have ever encountered, and that is saying a lot. I left a deposit on 29/12/2025 and paid the full balance for the car on 05/01/2026, trusting this company to act professionally especially since I am over 300 miles away and couldn’t view the vehicle in person.

That trust was completely misplaced.

Only after taking my money did I receive a video showing that every single alloy wheel was severely curbed, something conveniently not shown in the advert. These wheels looked awful, and any reputable dealership would have addressed that during prep. On top of that, the convertible roof was missing a clip, another basic issue that should have been sorted before advertising a £23,000 vehicle.

I had already arranged to travel from London to Newcastle on 11th January, insured the car, and booked non-refundable tickets. Then, on the 8th of January, I was suddenly informed that the car had “additional faults.” No detail, no transparency, nothing but vague excuses long after they had taken my money.

When I called to get clarity, things went from bad to disgraceful. I was put through to someone claiming to be a sales manager, Darren Hannah, who spoke to me with one of the worst attitudes I have ever experienced in customer service. Rude, abrupt, dismissive, and shockingly unprofessional. I genuinely could not believe this was a manager representing a business.

Instead of explaining anything, he repeatedly threatened to cancel the sale, despite me never mentioning cancellation. I was simply asking when my fully paid for car would be ready. His tone was vile, and his behaviour was completely unacceptable especially toward someone who had just spent £23,000 with their dealership.

Then came the final insult: I was told it would take four weeks to fix a supposed “speaker fault.” At that point, it felt blatantly like they were trying to push me out of the deal rather than take responsibility for issues they should have disclosed from the start.

This dealership has shown me no honesty, no respect, and absolutely no professionalism. The entire process has been a stressful, frustrating mess, and the way I was treated was appalling.

I would strongly advise anyone considering buying a car from here to stay far away. They have wasted my time, my money, and my trust.

Enquired about a car and went to view on the 28th December and it was closed, no info on website to say they were closed, arranged to view on the 31st DEC and they went and sold it, without even letting me know till it was sold

Security Risk: Missing Third Key on My Polestar 2

I purchased a Polestar 2 from Vic Young and was given two physical keys at the time of sale. What I didn’t realise until my annual MOT was that the car should have come with a third key. Because only two keys were provided, the service team couldn’t pair the digital key to my phone, which means there is potentially someone else out there with access to my car.
This is a serious issue, and when I contacted Vic Young about it eight months later (as soon as I became aware), they literally laughed at me instead of addressing the concern. I find this response completely unacceptable. Customers should be able to trust that they are receiving all keys with their vehicle and that their security is taken seriously.
I would strongly caution anyone considering buying from Vic Young to double-check everything they are given at the point of sale, because in my case, I was left with missing security features and poor customer service.

Bravo For Family-Owned Dealers !

It was well worth the 80 mile journey to view 2 cars in which we were interested, to buy for our daughter.
Brad was very helpful throughout and put us under no pressure. We were allowed to go for a long unaccompanied test-drive in our preferred car whilst they checked our trade-in. Unlike many main dealers, the negotiations were simple and straightforward, to include a service and extended warranty.

Bought a car from Vic Young last week…

Bought a car from Vic Young last week and I can honestly say that it was the easiest process I’ve ever experienced in buying a car and I’ve had a few over the years.
It was all done by email and all I had to do was collect the car the next day.
The salesman, Brad, could not have been any more helpful and everything was perfect.
Would not hesitate in recommending Vic Young to everyone.
It might be quite a while, but I know where I’ll go for my next car!!

Brad is first class to deal with. I'd recommend asking for him.


What a great experience. Brad in sales from start to finish looked after me so well. I bought the car online with £99 deposite. There was no pressure at any point and the car was great. Had a few teething problems which again Brad sorted for me. I lived away from the garage so took it to local one and Vic Young paid the bill. I have never bought from a garge before always bought private. But I will only ever come here in future. The tesla 3 I bought was as cheap as private but came with a years warrenty.

Great price, great service and great Brad :)

Had to pop into garage tonight

Had to pop into garage tonight. Minor fault on dash. Bought car three weeks ago from Callum Young. He is so experienced in everything he does. He sorted out the issue within half an hour. If you ever want a car go direct to him. Amazing service.

DO NOT BUY FROM VIC YOUNG

Do not understand many of these 5 star reviews, never ever buy a car from Vic Young or ‘car salesman’ Ray Scott. Was pre warned prior not to buy from this car garage but thought give them a change however promised the world but no follow through. Bought a car from Ray on Saturday to be told would be ready for Thursday. No communication from Ray had to chase him to find out what was happening several times throughout the week, waited till 3pm on the Thursday after no communication to be told car had failed MOT and wouldn’t be ready till the following week at least, this would mean I had been waiting 2 weeks for a car when he told me was a 3 day turn around. Then went into Vic Young to be LIED to and was told by Ray that he had only found out on the day about failed MOT but told me on the phone that the car had failed MOT on the Monday, absolute lies. Told Ray I will not be going ahead with the car to then be met back at the car garage with a refunded receipt slid across the desk to me and a sarcastic ‘goodbye’. No apology, no sorry this hasn’t worked out and we couldn’t get the car to you quicker - nothing. Customer service absolutely shocking and this man has no people skills, very disrespectful and I would advise people not to even bother themselves the stress. They do not care about your circumstances and will do nothing to try and help you, take your custom somewhere you will be treated with respect and an actual human being.

Fabulous company

An absolutely fabulous company to deal with. Nothing is too much bother and they go over and above. My daughter bought her car from them this weekend and from the part exchange of her car to the purchasing of her new car the process was seamless. We have to thank Ray Scott for his help and guidance throughout the full process.

They delivered the car with Parcel shelf missing ?? (the car is less than 8 months old )
when car was delivered i asked where is parcel shelf ? they said" it had one we will look around"...after several days i asked again..." havent had time to look will look "...i chased again "we cant find it will order one in"...i chased again "parts didnt order it will get it done and delivered straight to you"...Chased again and they had it delivered to them?...so they said we will send down to you....chased again " we are looking for something to send it in ???..

Seems that once they have sold the car to you you go on their" to do when i get time list"!!...so a month later still no Rear parcel shelf:(

Add this to not having a spare key when sold car so they asked me to arrange with renault garage near me (they did agree to pay/reimburse me)..but i had to order and have to drive over 25 miles to nearest Renault dealer to code the key..

The rear bumper on the car is scratched/nicked so much the last owner must have been hauling a golf buggy or wheelchair over the bumper,if had personally viewed i would not have accepted it.

So have learnt the hard way dont buy online unless you have had Good photos/videos of the car..dont rely on nice well lit showroom photos that are so bright you cant see any scratches/scuffs etc:(

Don't buy from here

Don't buy from here, they're very quick to sell you a car but it's a nightmare getting them to resolve any issues. I got my car in July 2024 and spent several months chasing Ray (the salesman) to sort an issue with the windscreen as it was delivered with a chip and small cracks. I took it back in October 2024 for a replacement to be told the new screen had a chip (wasting my time and money). They then replaced it but during the replacement have managed to not connect the electrics so the car cannot be locked or unlocked with the remote locking. Now being told they've been busy so haven't even looked at it yet.

Shoddy workmanship for megabucks

Got my car serviced and mot last year.
Also got parking brake and tyres replaced. Cost around £800 overall and the day they advertised it would be ready for they waited until the evening to tell me it hadn’t been done as someone had rung in sick that morning so the car was off the road another day.
Took it for its service and mot this year to a different garage and because the handbrake hadn’t been fitted properly it had failed again resulting in a further cost of £150 which was done the same day. I rang Vic young and was told it was out of warranty (by one day) and I would have to pay £95 for them even to diagnose the fault. Needless to say I didn’t take them up on that particular offer and have asked them not to contact me again.

Would like to say a massive thank you to Nathan

Would like to say a massive thank you to Nathan who managed to get my husband’s qashqai started. This was a very complex and technical issue that Nathan managed to fix. He is a lovely guy who kept me informed at all times, he’s a credit to Vic Young. Can I also say a big thank you to Charlene at Customer Service, extremely pleasant and professional. Would definitely recommend.
