I’ve used Wellers for about 5-6 years now and are generally very organised. They have upgraded the collection process and so instead of turning up and waiting your turn, you are now given 10 minute windows.
When I arrived right on time for my pick up there were two customers before me who were in the process of collecting their orders and for the first 5 minutes I did nothing but open and close the door for them. I had to laugh, when I was given my order, one of those customers were still in reception. I had both hands full and she actually watched me walk to the door and did nothing. So I told her, it would be nice if you could repay the favour for holding the door open for me sweetheart……. Unbelievable Jeff.
So why not 5 stars?
Wellers are not cheap in comparison to other auction houses. I don’t like the 3% surcharge for bidding online when you can only bid online, but with VAT and commission, it’s around 52-53% you pay of the hammer price which is a lot and can easily run away from you if you are not careful.
Having said that, this last time I used Wellers was because of the shipment of some brand new snuggle type of garment. It’s like a blanket but with arms and a hood and are sooooo comfortable and warm when used. I knew prior how much they sold for in shops and because this was an online auction, you knew just how much each was selling for. So with fees included, I paid around £8 on average, not bad considering the £25 in shops.
I have spent a lot of money at Wellers over the years and considering I’m not a reseller, all what I buy remains at home and gets used. These snuggle things I bought ideally make great gifts.
But I’ve also bought brand new iPad Pro’s with the 12-9 inch screens, iMac computers & other iPads. So you can pick up a bargain but beware, it’s essential you know what you are bidding on because it’s bought as seen and no returns, but to Wellers credit, they do give you a good description.
In all my time using Wellers, I’ve only been disappointed the once and considering I’ve bought well over 500 lots as a non business or reseller, it’s quite a lot. I know I could have gotten my cash back because the description said working when unfortunately when I got home it was clearly broken. But I had waited over 3 years for one of these to appear at auction and it’s gorgeous and considering it’s a 1 of a kind, I just couldn’t return it despite it not working.
Apart from that single item and the 53% of the hammer price to pay, Wellers is a great auction house. Finally, I receive all their emails about upcoming auction lots and they have some great contracts ongoing. So bravo Wellers.
Edit* (2 days after submission). The above is untouched but I want to give some added info especially with the 1 star reviews.
I don’t think peeps realise just how much of an operation this is from stock coming in, photos, descriptions, checked to see if working, cataloging, storing, then bid on, stock put away separately from all other similar lots, invoices typed out, waiting for payments despite given 24 hrs to pay, and then collect said items if the customer turns up on time. If anything is wrong within that process, it’s not a simple fix. Items do go missing, a lot of stock is the same. It’s actually quite amazing how well it is run.
I could have said I waited an hour before now to collect my items, but I understand the logistics.
Whenever I’ve had an issue like when I won a Rolex watch. I knew immediately it wasn’t real. I contacted them and was given a full refund. But there was no need to suggest they try to pass it off as real, again due to how many items pass through their doors on a daily basis.
You also know, if you pay say £20 for an iPad when others are selling for £200, common sense tells you it’s not right.
Lastly, things will inadvertently get damaged or misplaced, but that’s down to their success. I’ve never had a rude phone call or email in 5-6 years of using Wellers.
Jeez, some of you have clearly never had the pleasure of running or working in a business dealing with thousands of items daily. Things go wrong at times & if more peeps actually read the T’s & C’s there’d be fewer 1 star reviews.
Incidentally, I bought over 150 units of hair clippers for £1 per lot. Should I go ape because they didn’t give me a separate detailed condition report for each lot? Be reasonable for goodness sake.
A before anyone gets on my case about reselling when I said I didn’t, I still have 148 lots of hair clippers…..
Tip - anyone can become VAT registered regardless if you don’t break the bracket of around £58,000. You could save yourself 20% VAT by being registered. Of course you do need to resell items & charge 20% VAT so it’s a trade off.

I deal with a number of auction houses but Wellers does stand out as on of the more user friendly of the bunch.

Wellers are one of many auctions that I do business with and like most places one has to try to keep ahead of the game, it is very much a gamble on what you buy but that's the name of the game, I have been buying from Wellers for around a year, and I am starting to realise that they are a good fairly honest friendly team and they have so far earned my trust. I love using this site and enjoy my experience with them. only criticism is I would buy more if I could pick up my items from Dartford as Guildford is a 80 mile round trip but the staff at Dartford are amazing

I haven't been a customer of Wellers in years after a truly awful experience.
I won an expensive art glass bowl having been given a 'good condition' report on it, and traveled from Newcastle upon Tyne to collect it. Whilst I am fully aware that you are as quoted 'not experts' when selling despite being full of 'experts' when you hold valuation sessions, I did not expect to find a bowl that had been very clearly sandpapered on the inside. All I was offered for my inconvenience was a can't apology and a cup of tea. I sincerely hope the buying experience has improved since then

They gave my courier the wrong shelf unit and in spite of 3 emails, no-one from the Company has bothered to get in touch to resolve this.

I never judge a company by the mistakes but I always judge a company by how they deal with those mistakes and Weller's auction Ltd have ALWAYS been exemplary in their deals with me. Highly recommended.

Very poor just made up the prices on signatures at the last minute despite leading several items. Why start listings at £2 if you decide to only accept £10 at the last minute. Complete waste of time.

Shady business. They deliberately hide important info about dodgy items they're selling.
I bought an iphone that they said 'just needed charging' - turns out it won't charge at all. I'm pretty sure they knew - how hard is it to test if an iphone charges?
Then I bought a laptop that was supposed to be 'in working condition' but it was locked to a company account. Again, this takes about 10 seconds to check, and it massively affects what the laptop is worth. I'm sure they knew but chose not to mention it on item description.
They also regularly bid against their own customers to bring items to their perceived worth. Easy to spot on live bidding video. It is just lazy and lame, a proper auction house would set reserve price instead.
Avoid them, or at least be very careful if you buy anything here and assume that anything you're buying is not working. They don't do refunds.
I bought a watch from you sometime ago. I complained that the item was a non working ladies watch which was completely useless to me. You informed in your response the a person called Wayne would be contacting me. Weeks went on but NOTHING from this gentleman. I sent the item back to you registered post with details and invoices but again NOTHING! I am going to take your company to the small claims court, which is a time consuming process but I am not letting you get away with it.
interesting range of lots.
Let down in antiques and expensive products in that it is not possible to view the items beforehand, thus reducing the number of lots one can bid on without a proportionate risk evaluation.
Both speed of response and thoroughness of reply to condition reports is questionable and erratic, thus further reducing ability to other than bid low.
