Our destinations provide unique learning experiences in healthcare systems across the developing world. Established in 2005, we offer amazing opportunities to work in our partner hospitals learning unique approaches to low-resource healthcare. Since we started, we’ve proudly tailored more than 20,000 placements in low-resource healthcare settings all over the world. Encounter everything from unusually late-stage conditions, to tropical diseases. You'll also use, develop, and acquire skills when adjusting to new practices. You can be highly specific with your specialism, whether it's in Paediatrics, Emergency Medicine, Anaesthetics, Neonatal Intensive Care, or HIV counselling. Work the World’s placement planning and support service helps you avoid the pitfalls of trying to organise a placement by yourself. This gives you the safety, security, and peace of mind that comes with 24/7 support, and expert clinical supervision. While overseas, you’ll live in one of Work the World’s spacious, social, and secure private houses. Living with other students from a range of countries and healthcare backgrounds creates an atmosphere of friendship and camaraderie like nowhere else. You’ll enjoy meals freshly prepared each day by in-house chefs, as well as the now-famous weekly barbecues. Free language lessons in the house will help you communicate and interact with patients more effectively to get the most out of your placement. Your clinical experience runs from Monday to Friday, leaving your evenings and weekends free for exploration and adventure. Work the World’s expert in-country teams will offer tips for sightseeing and trips that you can take whilst you’re away. You could go on safari in the Serengeti, trek to Everest Base Camp, sunbathe on tropical beaches, and explore ancient mountaintop temples.

Best experience of my life. Extremely well organised. I felt supported and informed all through the booking and planning process. Whilst in Sri Lanka I felt safe, well looked after and felt the experience was enhanced by the wonderful staff on location. Highly recommend

I would definitely recommend work the world to anyone! I had an amazing time in Cambodia, and would do it again in a heart beat. You get picked up from the airport and taken to the house that you will be staying in for the duration of your placement. 24 hour security, housekeepers and chefs to cook you 2 meals a day, what more could you want!!? All the stress of arranging your placement is done for you by the work the world team and you are given a city and hospital orientation on your first day. I learnt so much during my trip, working in the A&E and maternity department. They are also very helpful when planning weekend travel too!

I can not recommend work the world enough. From the time I made the first contact with until I arrived back home, I felt I was in good hands. The entire trip met all of my expectations and more. If I wanted to visit a certain ward they would organise it, without any hassle. They helped with organizing trips. Nothing was too much for their team. thank you all at work the world.

In March/ April 2019, as a 2nd year Student Nurse I went on my International Elective in Nepal with WTW. The whole process from booking it up until the elective was so simple and very efficient! The team were so lovely and helpful! The Elective was the best thing I’ve ever done in my life! The Nepalese team were so supportive and made my time with them so special! I would 100% recommend!

I traveled alone to Ghana in May 2015 for 7 weeks. I am an Adult Nursing Student. I had the time of my life in Ghana and came back a happier and more relaxed person.
Work the World have been extremely supportive, friendly and welcoming from initially enquiring, booking my trip, preparing my trip, during my trip and when I returned home. I felt comfortable asking questions and was provided with very useful information and advice. The Work the World staff in Ghana were incredible, so friendly and made me feel at home straight away. They were very quick to deal with any issues that anybody had. I cannot fault this company in any way. I would recommend them to anyone.
As a first time traveller, Work the World offered me the security of being picked up from the airport and a friendly place to stay with other students. The placement was good and I liked being able to split my time between adult and paediatric departments. Lots of activities for the weekends and evenings and new friends to go with!
I visited Sri Lanka as part of my midwifery elective placement. The visit was only for 2 weeks which was shorter than a lot of the others but i was able to make the most of my time in Sri Lanka with the help of Work the World. Communication from Work the World during the organisation of the trip was great and i didn't have to worry at any time. Once in Sri Lanka everything was taken care of, from transfers from the airport to orientation to Kandy and guidance on where to visit. The staff in the Work the World are amazing, always happy to help. The manager Nandika is great, he is always available to help with placement queries or assisting with travel arrangements for the weekends. The food is fantastic and this is coming from one of the pickiest eaters you could ever meet!! The house is kept clean and tidy and maintained well by various members of staff.
The hospital is well connected to Work the World and have a good relationship. The placement area i visited was easily accessible and gave me a real good insight into the health care provided in Sri Lanka. The staff speak excellent English, but were more than impressed when spoken to in Sinhalese. Work the World provide language classes weekly in the house and these were a valuable tool to access. If you make the most of the resources then you will reap the benefits.
I would definitely recommend Work the World to anyone wishing to travel abroad for an elective placement as i had the most amazing experience and would definitely return if i had the chance.
