Work the World specialises in creating customised overseas healthcare placements throughout Asia and Africa. Our destinations provide unique learning experiences in healthcare systems across the developing world. Established in 2005, we offer amazing opportunities to work in our partner hospitals learning unique approaches to low-resource healthcare. Since we started, we’ve proudly tailored more than 20,000 placements in low-resource healthcare settings all over the world. Encounter everything from unusually late-stage conditions, to tropical diseases. You'll also use, develop, and acquire skills when adjusting to new practices. You can be highly specific with your specialism, whether it's in Paediatrics, Emergency Medicine, Anaesthetics, Neonatal Intensive Care, or HIV counselling. Work the World’s placement planning and support service helps you avoid the pitfalls of trying to organise a placement by yourself. This gives you the safety, security, and peace of mind that comes with 24/7 support, and expert clinical supervision. While overseas, you’ll live in one of Work the World’s spacious, social, and secure private houses. Living with other students from a range of countries and healthcare backgrounds creates an atmosphere of friendship and camaraderie like nowhere else. You’ll enjoy meals freshly prepared each day by in-house chefs, as well as the now-famous weekly barbecues. Free language lessons in the house will help you communicate and interact with patients more effectively to get the most out of your placement. Your clinical experience runs from Monday to Friday, leaving your evenings and weekends free for exploration and adventure. Work the World’s expert in-country teams will offer tips for sightseeing and trips that you can take whilst you’re away. You could go on safari in the Serengeti, trek to Everest Base Camp, sunbathe on tropical beaches, and explore ancient mountaintop temples.

Best 5 weeks I could have hoped for. The team was amazing - so friendly, well organised and supportive. I loved my time at the work the world house - made some great friends and memories with the other students. My placement in the hospital was really interesting whilst my time at the village clinic was completely unique.

I visited Anuradhapura 2 years ago now and I think about it all of the time, the whole month was fabulously organized. Each trip out was smoothly run, the staff there were amazing! Such a good laugh and they would do anything to make sure you had the best time with a meeting half way through the trip to make sure you were getting all you wanted out of your time there. Myself and the group I was with went to Trincomalee for a weekend and the hosts helped us organise it even though it wasnt part of our months itinerary. Great experience from start to finish and nothing was too much to ask. 100% would use Work the World again and I'd recommend it to anyone!

Work the World were amazing from start to finish. They answer any questions and provide lots of information throughout the process. You are fully supported throughout. My placement in the Philippines was incredible. The house was amazing and felt very safe. The staff were great and the food was delicious. Support while you were there was great. Placements were tailored to your preferences and the communication continued when I arrived back in the UK.

Excellent experience on my professional health care journey. Work the world staff were absolutely fantastic, whether they were on the telephone or at the destination location. The organisation of the whole trip was exemplary from start to finish and Work the World will be the company I use for any future ventures.

This was a fantastic way of experiencing another country's healthcare system whilst feeling comfortable and supported by the Work the World team. I had the opportunity to experience everything I had hoped for.

Would recommend Work the World to any other students who are wanting to travel for their elective placement.
The staff were so efficient from emailing and sorting everything out whilst in England and then being in the Philippines. The accommodation was amazing, although missing a swimming pool however it was easy enough to find some nearby.
Would definitely use work the world again if I had another chance and would tell anyone else to use them

The most important thing I have learnt is to be in the present and enjoy every second because experiences like this are once in a life time opportunity. I would recommend an overseas placement to healthcare students, as there is always a window of opportunity to learn new skills and undertaking a placement abroad can be life-changing.

I really enjoyed my experience to Takoradi - Ghana. I was able to see the difference with Ghana’s healthcare system and the NHS.
Work the world staff in the UK and in Ghana we’re very helpful, supportive and patient. They were always willing to help through the whole process and offer advise when needed.
