The Write Story Books for Children course is helpful for writers of any genre.

I found this course full of helpful information for other genres as well as Children's books. Unfortunately, I also found a few anomalies, wherein some of the results did not concur with the information I had studied. Consequently, some of my results have been transposed incorrectly. However, I am satisfied with the overall result, and I have some vital information which will help in my future of writing.
Thank you

I enjoyed taking this course, but I have one concern.

Did you enjoy it?
I enjoyed it, but I do have a concern.

What would you improve?
I would allow the students to be able to copy and paste text from the slides into their own MS Word notes. It took me 3-5 hours to complete each module because I had to retype the text into my notes. This was not fun at all and took away from my full enjoyment of the course.

Would you recommend it to others?
I would highly recommend the course to others, but I would share my experience with them concerning the note-taking.

What didn't you like about the course?
The slides did not allow me to copy text into MS Word.

Any other comments?
Very good course. I learned a lot, and I am happy that I completed it.

Thank you very much for your kind comments. We're pleased to hear that you enjoyed the course and would recommend it to others.

Regarding your disappointment about not being able to copy and paste the text from the slides; unfortunately, a small handful of people ruined this for the majority. We made the decision to remove the ability for students to copy and paste the text from our course a few years back, after numerous copyright infringements and expensive lawsuits we were forced to take out against several former students. These individuals effectively copy and pasted the course and then proceeded to illegally sell and profit from it under their own name. It was a very costly and upsetting episode for all parties involved and one that we don't wish to go through again!

It's often far more effective to write up your own shortened notes from the course and keep in mind that you have lifetime access to the course so you will ALWAYS be able to refresh yourself on the content.

Very good and informative.

This was an excellent course for beginner writers. It filled in a lot of information that would never be able to be obtained by word of mouth. It provided a good background to research methodologies and techniques to produce effective writing skills and a quality product.

Comprehensive and easy to follow tips to writing children's stories for several mediums and genres.

I learned many valuable tips regarding story structure, writing style, character and plot development, writing for an audience and conducting research to create a marketable story. The examples provided throughout were appropriate and useful in illustrating teaching points.
I have already written several children's stories, and will be applying what I learned here to improve upon them. I am looking forward to submitting them to a publisher in the near future and definitely believe my chances for success have been increased, thanks to this course.
I highly recommend this course to anyone who wishes to write for children.

This was a useful and intersting course but here are some formatting errors.

Overall, I loved the course. I learned quite a bit and hope to put this to use immediately. I wish that there were more specific information regarding publishers in the United States and their requirements. Also organizations and references for those of us in the U.S. would be much more helpful.

There are some issues with sections appearing to be in the wrong place. For example, in Module 14, there was a discussion of self marketing your book towards the beginning of the module. This appears to be referring to
Vanity Publishers and should be at the end of the module. (Or am I wrong?)

Lots of great information for an amateur writer

This course helped me polish up my story by giving me detailed information about the actual mechanics of writing as well as the do's and don'ts of writing. I put all the knowledge to work and hope to attract the interest of a publisher. I was almost talked into a self publishing firm but at the end of your course, you strongly warned against this. I am now going to try to get published the old fashioned way as the course recommends.

Excellent course which covers need-to-know basics of writing through publishing.

The course is well organized, logical, easy to follow. Presentation is visually appealing and points are illustrated with examples which are direct and clear.

Unlike many courses which focus solely on writing skills, this one spans the writer's entire process including specific instruction on how to submit manuscripts to publishers, offering useful do's, don'ts, and industry resources.

My rating of Four Stars could easily be Five if US and Canada resources were to be provided in addition to those in UK.

An excellent introduction to the skills and actions needed to undertake writing as a profession.

Worth the time and money spent on this class, if you are serious about becoming a writer.

The class was very well designed although modules ran a bit too long. The last module, 14, seemed slightly disconnected and disorganized. There were some typing mistakes throughout the presentations, and some test questions had confusing choices for answers. But these minor discomforts were nothing when compared to the value of the entire package. I am very happy that I came across this class. Thank you!

The course has valuable information for beginner writers.

I enjoyed the course immensely. It was a great summer project to fulfill, and I couldn't wait for the quiet times when I could sit down in front of the monitor and copy every page down on paper! Yes, I wrote the whole course, and loved every minute of it. This way I can always go back and review all the valuable information I will need to pursue my stories I have in mind. I am registered for the Young Adult Fiction course, so I am anxious to begin a new endeavour...

What it says on the tin.

This is course is no more and no less than what it claims to be. It gives valuable insights and tips into the world of writing and particularly writing for children. I have started keeping a notepad in my pocket and writing observations as recommended in the course. For me this is not a romantic fantasy but I have a genuine desire to make a living out of writing. This course could scarcely have given a better start. Of course there is much more to learn and experience but module by module I have developed a greater understand for, and enthusiasm for writing.
My only slight quibble is that I think one or two of the test question answers are a somewhat ambiguous. Also looking back over the module when armed with the right answers I have not always been able to tell where the answer came from. This is just minor thing and all in all I would rate this course 9 out 10.
Thanks

User friendly and informative

Modules were user friendly and informative. If you have writing experience this course is redundant and should be used as a refresher. Most of the information is basic knowledge for individuals who have taken any kind of high school English/Writing class.

An informative and stimulating course.

This is a great place to start learning about children's story writing and the cost is highly competitive too. The course encourages accelerated learning by being modular and progressive.

Decent for the discounted value

I decided to take this course because I got a good deal on Groupon (there's no way this course is worth the full price in my opinion) and I'm a writing student. I enjoyed the course overall and looked forward to most modules. It was easy to follow and actually encouraged me that I'd like to give children's book writing a go. I didn't mind it was a passive course because I expected it to be so and it covered a wide range of areas (although perhaps some were too detailed - it's too soon to talk of licensing characters when this would happen to 0.01% of writers). The use of other published children's books to highlight particular examples was very helpful. I think if you can find this course at a discounted price and are generally interested then it's worth a go.

The negatives: I think it might give people unrealistic expectations about a writing career and how easy it is to be successful. Towards the end there was so much focus on agents and publishers that it overwhelmed me.

Some of the course was overly patronising and uncomfortable especially the constant dismissive mentions of "political correctness". It wasn't needed and makes the course writer sound out of touch. Yes, generalisations and stereotypes for gender might help sell books (we can all imagine boys don't want to read pony books) but there are ways to write this in the course without sounding sexist. Some of the wink-wink comments of "well we can't say that any more in case someone is offended" I found uncomfortable.

Ignoring this, the course was worthwhile and interesting. Worth the discounted price.
