Rubbish!

Rubbish!
Been a YB customer for 50 years. This app is absolutely useless. It doesn't even recognise a very common UK email address.
More frustration from rubbish apps that promise a lot and deliver nothing.
I'm looking into First Direct.

I have been a Yorkshire Bank customer …

I have been a Yorkshire Bank customer for over 20 years, and have a current and savings accounts with them. Like the other reviewers, I've experienced problems with the Internet banking, and, having contacted them on several occasions, I finally was offered a workable solution by one of their agents. More training for the call centre staff is a must! However, today got me seriously thinking about parting company with the bank, because the message conveyed was "we don't care". Problem? When transferring some money between accounts, instead of taking it from my current account, I accidentally took it from my Visa account. I realised this pretty much straightaway and put the money back, but for this mistake and its span of probably 5 minutes I was charged £8. Having contacted the bank to explain and ask them to cancel the charge, I was told that there would have been a confirmation screen which would have made me realise which card I was about to use, but there was no screen. I was made to feel like I was not telling the truth, and, when I said I wanted to close the account, the question back was whether I wanted to close them all. No regrets at losing the customer. To my request to speak to the manager the answer was there was no manager available. I was left feeling very angry at the incredibly unprofessional service - it was truly the worst conversation I ever had with anyone in a customer support role. Customer service is what makes companies stand out, and you are right down at the bottom right now, Yorkshire Bank.

A shambles of a bank

A shambles of a bank. I switched being lured by the £250 - I will be moving as soon as that's paid in. Constant app problems for which they seem to be in total denial of - well the loud pittter patter of leaving customers should tell you something up. I wish I had stayed with first direct

Totally Unreliable Internet Banking Service

I have been with Yorkshire Bank since I started my first full-time job in the late 60's. I have spent most of my time in the forces away from UK and found Yorkshire Bank very good. HOWEVER the past month has had me doubting myself about my log in credentials as I have had to phone the banks help-line every time I attempt to log onto the Internet Banking Service. I try to log on and fail 3 times every time. I call the help desk and get into my account with no problems on the first attempt but then when I need to approve a bank payment and put in my credentials again it always fails. At first I wondered if it was MS Windows 10 that was the problem but I tried with MS Windows 7 and I got in first time only to find that a subsequent login attempt failed. I lodged a complaint hoping to talk to one of their Tech guys but instead got a call from their complaints department. As it was pointless 'Talking Turkey' about the fault it was a waste of my time and his. I feel that somehow Yorkshire Banks IT Guys are dumbing down the problem or they are not aware that a problem exists. The problem (I believe) is actually greater than Yorkshire Bank understand and it has been going on unresolved for months and is getting worse. It is getting to the stage that it looks like a 'Denial of Service' virus that they do not know how to resolve. I hope they wake up soon before they lose too may customers.

UTTERLY, UTTERLY AWFUL

UTTERLY, UTTERLY AWFUL BANK! NEVER, EVER, EVER, USE THEM! I thought the 'free banking' offer was appealing, but there's a very good reason they need to offer that.

I cannot believe such a dinosaur of bank exists in this day and age. Their service is terrible (not a slight on the poor clerks or telephone personnel, just the way it's been set up).

The online banking is atrocious, it won't let you see any more than 6 month's transactions and charges you £5 PER MONTH for anything beyond that. And guess what? It's paper-only! HAHAHAHA! in 2017! You cannot get a digital download of the information, despite it being smaller in filesize than your average profile pic on Facebook.

The login system routinely denies me access, despite my details not changing. I go through the same ritual: login, fail, login again, fail, check credentials, login, fail, check creds again, login, fail, denied access, reset credentials (which takes a week). Works for about 3 months then fails again. It's driving me nuts and I haven't been able to move away from them until now (too messy with client payments and such). But I am finally able to move now and I have no doubt I will be far happier with cash under the bed (kidding, I'm going with HSBC as they've been fine).

Ignoring the nightmare setup I had at first (which took 6 weeks, despite it being promised in 2), they've been nothing but a huge frustration to work with. I will be truly glad to be rid of them. Unbelievable.

p.s. They have a limited set of questions for their security, which include 'favourite film/meal/place' but they won't accept ANY of mine (too short/long/spaces etc..). Haha! What kind of idiot asks what your favourite things are then tells you they are unacceptable?

This bank is just such hard work

This bank is just such hard work!

Ridiculous security questions like :

What is your fave book? or Film?

What genius dreamed this up? These are questions with answers that change over time and none of which are important enough for me and only me to remember!

Old fashion, mothers maiden name, name of first pet are sensible as they can not change.

Also, trying to leave this bank because they make everything so long and drawn out was even difficult.

I needed to transfer MY savings. Yes Yorkshire bank, the important word being MY savings. I get a rather dull message telling me I have to wait five working days for some wasteful security token to be sent in the post.

Not completely out of the question, but this bank lacks common sense and is just a bore to bank with. It certainly does not fill me with confidence that I have a progressive and proactive organisation looking after my financial affairs.

It is a shame because the phone staff are helpful and friendly, they just appear to be let down by an organisation that seems to lazy to drag its self up to the modern day banking standards.

Online banking and mobile app are prone to failure

Online banking and mobile app are prone to failure and I find myself locked out which then requires many many calls to YB where I am bounced around by several agents who do try to help but I feel that their online banking and mobile app are not fit for purpose. The processes around registration and authentication are very complex and make resolving access issues impossible. I feel sorry for the agents who are at the coal face and need to try and paper over the cracks. YB really need to resolve these issues otherwise customers will leave

A simply dreadful bank to deal with!

A simply dreadful bank to deal with. Switching was the biggest mistake of my life. They advertise easy switch of business accounts, mine has been painful! Took 6 weeks to switch, then you can't activate internet and app banking because their SMS activation codes 'time out'. Then they block important internet payments, telling me that the account is not authorised to make online transactions - despite previous transactions having been completed. When resolved over the phone (Friday) another numpty calls me on Saturday evening to tell me my transactions have not completed - the same problem that was resolved by their colleague the day before, but they were blissfully unaware. No notes on the accounts? The left hand does not know what the right hand is doing. I shall be switching 3 business accounts away from them at the end of their free banking period.... if not sooner. Sorry YBOL, senio management need to take a serious look at the flaws within its operations and customer services team. You are shockingly bad!

I could not be happier really!

I transferred with my business account due to zero charges for SME's, then after 6 months of only good experiences & always help on hand, I have now transferred my personal account to them(I had been with my previous bank 25 years). I opened a 'B' account and had an appointment booked in days and the switch was fast and easy. The app is far superior to HSBC's and everything is easy to use! I have always found someone on the end of the phone (and in the UK!) whenever needed for personal or business, and everyone in the bank has been fantastic! Thank you YB!

This incompetent "Yorkshire bank" deactivated my savings account

This incompetent "Yorkshire bank" deactivated my savings account. They say it's because I did not make a transaction in the last two years. They want me to show proof of ID to reactivate it, (which I am not obliged to do). So now I can not get any money out or pay any money in.
They failed to give me any advance notice of them deactivating this "savings account" (which they deactivated 6 months earlier without telling me). I have held this account for over 40 years and they even told me that my date of birth was wrong.

I am still in the process of dealing with this company but I sure am going to make them pay a substantial compensation amount for doing this to me.

Best advice I can give is don't bank with them, and if you do bank with them then close your account and move to another bank.

Wish I could give them 0 stars!

Wish I could give them 0 stars!

Blocked the transfer of my account to HSBC using the switch service. Rang and got put on hold for 20 minutes only to be told no-one could deal with it and the branch would "ring me" - but couldn't say when.

5 days later no call, no apology. So closing account and good riddance

Judging by the 90% of reviewers who also gave 1 star rating to Yorkshire Bank I wish I had never heard of them

Switched to Yorkshire bank FAIL

Switched to Yorkshire bank. They gave the switch guarantee but they missed my credit card payment direct debt and now I've had charges from the credit card company and Yorkshire bank say it is not covered by the switch.
This directly contradict the switch guarantee.
Awful customer service.

Just go somewhere else..

I'm always rather doubtful of 1-star reviews as I imagine many to be an emotional overreaction. However..... Yorkshire Bank gets awarded another! Absolutely the most inept bank I've ever dealt with, and I've probably dealt with 30 or more.

Similar story to several others on this page, I tried to open an online account. At the end of the process was told "Sorry theres been a technical hitch" - "you will be contacted on the next working day"
Unsurprisingly, I never was contacted, and so began a comedically drawn-out process. In the last 90 days I did get one telephone call to confirm the account existed, but despite 3 recorded letters, 3 emails and a phone call, I'm still waiting for any electronic or postal documentation.

3 Minutes online with a competitor bank and I'm up and running with a new account. All the docs in the post next day. Its not that difficult!

Site Crashed and then no answer from customer service

Filled in an application online to open an account. When I submitted the site crashed and told me to call 0800 028 3632 as there was a technical problem. Called the number and placed in a queue for 45 minutes. Was originally 15th in the queue when I got to first place the automated message said "due to technical difficulties we are unable to take your call" and hung up! Why did I have to wait 45 minutes for that? Also, I have no idea if my application went through or not. Avoid......

Tempted by their switch offer? AVOID!!!

Tried to switch to them as part of their latest promotion - wish I'd thought of reading online reviews first. Application process a tortuous nightmare (systems permanently down it seems and impossible to get through on phone). Account finally opened but now I find that withdrawals from a current account are limited to a few £'s a day unless you get some security key sent out. Funds now impounded by Yorkshire and finding it impossible to access my own money.

Terrible Customer Service

I have an existing fixed rate bond with this company and wanted to invest a further amount. I tried telephoning three times before I actually got through, having had to wait over 40 minutes at the third attempt before someone finally answered. However, I declined to invest any further money on the basis of this totally appalling level of customer service.

We would not even give 1 star to this …

we do have an account with them - but - We would not even give 1 star to this outfit.
There is no service whatsoever that could merit even 1 star!!
After holding on the phone line for over 45 minutes and then speaking to Graham - who could not help anyway - we got transfered to someone else.
After holding on for another 30minutes - Gave up in the end!!
TOTALLY AND UTTERLY USELESS BANK.
